so here we are it's chris wheatley from hot tub university today we're doing a selfie video not by choice because i got no one else to take my video and today we have a costco 70 jet 2015 model hot tub we're going to have a look at now as we've been talking about folks mass merchants are never good place to buy your hot tub and you know we've talked about all the things that mass merchants don't know and don't do with a hot tub and uh today we're just gonna have a quick look and see you know exactly what they're doing so this is the evolution it's selling for about ten thousand dollars canadian right now at costco and uh well let's have a look so first thing insulation wise as you can see there's not a whole lot of insulation uh and this is typical of mass merchant tubs there's a little bit of insulation down on the floor here in some places and really all it's there for is to support the stuff so it doesn't rattle around and sound too crazy it's also got a perimeter insulation system and what that means is these sides have about an inch and a half two inches worth of insulation in them so really it's a perimeter system very similar to what you're getting on an arctic spot most of your um mass merchant spas nowadays so it's a fairly common thing in the industry it's not you know not unheard of one of the big problems if you listen to my video on insulation systems we talk about motor heat being trapped inside on these perimeter tubs and one of the big problems with the motor heat being trapped inside is we end up with overheating motors now the first thing you'll notice with the pump right here look at that discoloration on the label those are heat sensitive labels and they're designed um to turn color when the motors are running too hot and this uh it's just feedback for the manufacturer the motor so they know what caused the failure but clear evidence right there and this is a tub that's only been in the field running for about five months the customer returned it to costco and as you can see right there pure evidence of what to be one of the big problems of these perimeter systems the next thing we know is the jetting we notice that there's no clamps on any of the pressure lines and again very common on a mass merchant tub they'll dip glue these quick easy not a whole lot of uh you know labor etc now at some point in time somebody must have pointed out to these folks you know that uh clamping joints was a good idea because they did start to clamp these joints but obviously they don't have any clue what they're doing because these are suction lines there's...
