hey everyone i wanted to come on quickly tonight and just talk about the power of giving gift certificates so i know that this is um kind of a conflicting idea especially for christmas i feel like a lot of us have moved away from giving gift certificates to people as gifts for the holidays but i wanted to come on here and talk about why i think that it's a great idea um and part of that is that i think the way that we do give gift cards is just here you go here's a gift go ahead and use this at your leisure um but why a gift certificate for a service is just so different so um i'm gonna talk about gary chapman's five love languages here for a quick moment so i don't know if any of you are familiar with this um but there's an author his name is curry chapman i think he's a pastor of some kind i'm really not 100 sure but basically he's conducted research and he has talked about uh that each person gives and receives love in a different way and so he has really kind of dumbed that down to five main ways that people give and receive love and so the five ways the five love languages are acts of service i had to look at my notes acts of service words of affirmation quality time physical touch and gifts so obviously gift certificate yeah sure you're satisfying that gift side but i kind of want to come on and give a couple tips around how to give a gift certificate so that it could satisfy all five of these love languages so first when we talk about acts of service so this is the act of doing something for somebody so you think okay getting them a gift certificate how is that really doing something for somebody you don't just give them a gift certificate you make the appointment for them you understand their needs of do they need child care do they need maybe a way of transportation of how to get there or how to be picked up what day of the week or what is their life typically like and how could you know coming for an appointment you know just be done for them so as much as the gift certificate is just a little presentation of here you go i've done this for you the active service is really on the back end of things so you're gonna make sure that everything is absolutely taken care of from start to finish of booking and paying for their appointment delivering them making sure that possibly if they do need child care or some other type of support that it's completed for them so that would be acts of service when we're talking about words of affirmation don't just give them a card and say i love you here you go um...
