[Music] hi my name is Neil O'Donnell I'm the camp director here at village camps York I've been working for village camps for thirteen years twelve of them here in York in the UK one of the most important parts of my job is the welfare of your children from the point of arrival to the point of departure our campers are met at point of arrival and escorted with staff members here to camp at York where they meet our welcome team and go through registration healthcare and the bank j-1 we focus on team-building and ice-breaking activities with the children it allows the counselors to get to know the children a little bit better and the children to make new friends as quickly as possible on day one we also include a tour of the facilities let me go over the rules for camp these rules that are the children to respect each other and each other's cultures while also having lots of fun while they're at camp a typical day at camp begins with wakeup and breakfast followed by morning programs including English football performing arts which are here on campus and others like adventure golf and horse riding which are off-site the majority of children eat lunch on campus followed by a wide variety of afternoon activities which they choose themselves after this there's a period of free time when the children get to relax to meet each other and make new friends in the evening we have our evening meal followed by our evening activities the evening activities can be age related or correlated as we call it or they can be all camp activities such as big night kind of a nice or talent show an important part of camp is the all camp activities in the evenings such as big night or international night internationalize in particular offers the children an opportunity to share their cultures food and language with everybody else at camp and children to learn about other foods languages and cultures from each other we also have age related evening activities including pool party games and moguls where the children can play air hockey the video games and football the weekend means excursions here at village camps in York on Saturday we travel to Manchester we go and see a movie and we have plenty of shopping time on Sunday we visit historic city of York where the children explore the heritage of the city in their age groups [Music] I've been working with vintage camps for 13 years and when people ask me why do I stay working with village camps for I've ever been with VC for so long and I think is a very easy question for me to answer I've made friends within two weeks of beginning to work with VC and they're still my friends today 13 years later I really like Ken because you can burn each other's culture and it's kind of a...
