I'd never really heard of summer camp apart from in American TV shows she's never been before never done anything like this before my name's Mike as my second here comes Carter my name is Baker it was my first year at Camp Takota my mom first got me to go to camp when I was ten I think camp really got me out of my shell and I've just loved it ever since and I want to keep that going for other kids working with kids is awesome and overwhelming and incredible and it's different every day I think it's all about the attitude that you go into it with and whether you're willing to try things and really be silly and crazy and goofy with children camp does a really good job of making you not nervous when you arrive you feel really welcomed and really at home it was me I was like driving here alone I was like I don't know anyone here we go I just turned right in I had a really open mind and I was just ready to meet everyone my one of the relationships with the staff members here the close friendships that you get it's something you can't get anywhere else [Music] you'll find that everyone has the same mindset as you do best friends the camp is American and now you know he's obviously the best friend I'll ever have in my life when you get here after your first few sessions you suddenly realize that this is so much more than just summer job it's not only helping other people but I think importantly it's helping you but you grow so much here because you have to you have to suddenly adapt and that that matures you infinitely working with camp involves a lot of thinking on your feet it involves emotional intelligence and judgment and problem-solving and it's really what employers are looking for they want people who can communicate they want people who can triage and and manage different kinds of people who maybe have different abilities or different personalities this stuff is absolutely critical moving into the 21st century workplace this is the hardest job I've ever had but it's also the greatest thing in the world because you're gonna see kids overcome fears or suddenly decide that they love your class I had a kid once at the end of the session just come up to me and give me a hug and say thank you for being my friend it was so worth it like I'd do it in an instant again like I go through everything again just to hear and say that that's where you get your energy from and it's a real job and it's a hard job but it's so worth it this place helps readers as much to learn more about working at camp Takota click the link in the description below
