welcome my name is Jennifer Ledbetter I serve as your labor and employee relations manager with the human resources and organizational management branch here at headquarters United States Marine Corps our office presents trainings in support of our ongoing effort to bring relevant and reliable developmental opportunities to our customers it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to today's presentation entitled defense performance management appraisal program training for supervisors also referred to as DP map DP map is a collaborative labor-management effort to improve human resource practices and policies in the Department of Defense which helps foster a cultural change that encourages employee engagement ongoing communication ongoing employee recognition accountability timelines and requirements this presentation will guide supervisors through the performance appraisal process and further explain that attributes DP map has to offer thank you for joining us today today we will discuss creating a performance plan progress reviews annual appraisals and ratings specially situated employees the appraisal cycle runs from 1 April through 31 March a minimum of 3 performance discussions are required initial progress review and annual appraisal but more are highly recommended DP map uses a three level rating pattern 5 is outstanding 3 fully successful and 1 unacceptable please take note of the link to access DP map once you are in click on the green smart card icon and select your non email certificate to access your employees performance appraisal click on the performance management & appraisal button on the left side of the screen under key services section on this screen select DoD performance management appraisal program from the create a new plan drop down menu and then select go this is the Supervisory commitment statement screen ensure the hierarchy is accurate then click on the acknowledge button at the bottom of the screen before we get into the steps for initiating and creating the performance plan the information on this slide is very important remember the minimum period of performance is 90 days for an employee to be eligible to receive a rating supervisors should allow employees the opportunity to provide input into their performance elements and standards each employee must have a written performance plan within 30 days of the appraisal cycle new position new set of duties and/or a new supervisor plans can only be revised once the employee has had 90 days or more on the original plan the data on the screen is auto populated with default dates DP map cycle runs from 1 April to 31 March yearly you can override these dates by using the drop down list or manually entering them the only reason you would have to change the start date would be if your employee started their position after 1 April the end date will always be the same 31 March unless the employee is extended the effective date will always be the same 1 June once you click on save and continue you will be taken to step 2 mission goals notice...
