what's up everybody i'm james whithey and today i'm going to talk about why i don't sell gift certificates for tattoos [Music] okay so today i'm going to talk a little bit about gift certificates in tattooing and why i personally do not sell them or offer them i'm sure that a lot of you guys out there probably aren't even aware that gift certificates and tattooing exist but they do a lot of artists offer them and the reason for why a gift certificate would be really appealing seems obvious to me right like a tattoo actually would be a really great gift because it is like the type of gift that lasts forever like a gift that keeps on giving so to speak and um it is something that's very personal so i feel like i can understand why people ask me about gift certificates often but um this video is basically so that i can help you guys out there that might want to get one from me understand why i don't offer them so first i guess i'll explain real briefly like how a gift certificate works in tattooing basically what you do if you're trying to get somebody a gift certificate in tattooing as you walk into a shop or contact the artist ahead of time either way you're gonna have to physically show up in person and you're gonna have to hand over some money to an artist and in exchange you're going to get a little certificate that they either have pre-made excuse me pre-made or maybe they'll just go ahead and print like a generic one off the computer or something like that and then just fill it out and personalize it a little bit and then they hand that to you and basically that gift certificate acts as like a physical symbol of a down payment that you have put down towards a tattoo so it's almost like a deposit the main difference being that with a deposit that is part of your agreement to show up for your appointment and that money can be forfeited or lost if you violate the appointment scheduling agreement between you and a tattooer whereas a gift certificate is basically just money in the bank for that tattoo and i don't really know how other artists out there handle it but i wouldn't think that it's the same as a deposit where you could like ever lose that money somehow that you put down for a gift certificate now after you've given that money to your artist and you've received the gift certificate in return then you know i guess you would like put it in an envelope or a card or something like that and give it to somebody either for christmas or their birthday or whatever and then they would open their gift up be happy about it receive that gift and then take it back to the artist whenever they get their...
