in this lesson you'll learn how to set up sell and redeem a gift certificate you'll also learn how to view gift certificate reports to create a gift certificate go to the setup menu and select configuration in the left navigation panel click on gift certificates then press the new button and type in the name of the gift certificate you can enter a default amount for the gift certificate or you can leave it as zero if you want to enter the amount at the point of sale take this box if you want the gift certificate to require a tracking number this makes it easier to keep track of gift certificate balances you can also enter an expiry date we recommend adding an expiry to ensure that your liabilities are calculated correctly tick this box if you want employees to receive credit when they sell a gift certificate you can then enter the portion of the sale you want them to receive as credit if you're using clubs you can then choose whether you want clients to receive points when they buy a gift certificate or when they redeem it once you're finished entering these details press save now I'll show you how to sell a gift certificate go to the point-of-sale and select the client click on a sail line then select the employee choose sundry as the type of transaction and choose the gift certificate you want to sell then choose the payment type and end the sale if you're using tracking numbers you'll need to enter a tracking number the first time you sell the gift certificate tracking numbers will be automatically generated from this point forward press done to complete the sale to redeem a gift certificate at the point-of-sale click on the gift certificate icon in the payment type section then select gift certificate select the gift certificate that's being redeemed you can search for the gift certificate number by clicking here and you can press edit to enter the amount being redeemed once you've selected the gift certificate press done in this example the gift certificate has taken $100 from the outstanding total which means there's $20 remaining if there's any outstanding balance left on the transaction simply take the payment and and the sale we also have gift certificate reports available to view these reports go to the Tools menu and select reports expand your business reports and you'll then be able to see your reports on expired expiring and outstanding gift certificates if you'd like to view a report just select the report and press view select the date and press view again now that you know how to set up gift certificates you can use this feature to encourage return visits
