Add vacationer default

everyone welcome back to this adjusting purity to match the site design that you want to use and what we're going to do is we're going to be adjusting the template to match the positions that you have designed the impurity it's important that you have already decided some of the layouts that you want to use and sometimes the default layout is not exactly what you're going to be looking for so what we're going to do is log into the system here and we're going to go into the purity under the extensions template main your manager and purity three default is what we're going to be changing this site is primarily going to be a corporate website so what we want to do is make sure that we have the module positions that we need in order to make it work better so you'll notice the purities default configuration shows it as a blog and for my purposes i want the default layout to be the corporate layout when i make some immediate transitions and changes here and you notice that this position has several other issues and and several other things that it can do and it gives you multiple positions above and below the footer fold now for my purposes I want to add another little layer right here just in case I need to put up a banner or things of that nature so what I want to do is I want to add another position okay and I need to change these positions relative to where I want them to be so first of all we're going to change this one to position zero this one but then becomes position one this one becomes position two and so on this allows me to have a little more control over the design sometimes you want header images or things of that nature to to kind of trump everything else and what we're going to do is we're going to add another position in here and in this case it's going this last one will be position for now so what I've done is I've moved one two three four to become zero one two three and four this gives me five positions in the upper header area making the site a little little more flexible for my needs and you can also use the slideshow position which is excellent but sometimes you just need a banner header or things of that nature so what we're going to do is we've got our module positions laid out position five is here at the bottom of the component that's another good place for a banner or maybe a you know other related articles or things of that nature now in our responsive layout we're going to come here and remember that these items these numbers represent the number of columns in Twitter bootstrap because purity is a responsive bootstrap template so position zero I want to run just like the slideshow and it shows now that it takes up twelve columns a lot of times what I will do here is I divide these in half and this is on the large screens and each of them becomes six columns you'll notice that it jumps when it goes above six if I get up to seven it has to jump so we're going to do six and all of these numbers as you go from left to right will add up to 12 so for example it could be 4 4 RS are 3 3 3 3 and 3 times 4 is 12 or 4 4 4 and 3 times 4 is still 12 now on a medium screen I want the same layout I like it's pretty standard default layout and what I do is I watch these numbers and when they get to 6 I stop oh I'm sorry on a large screen position 0 is still going to be 12 or on the medium screen this one will be 6 this one will be 6 and this one will be 6 small obviously position 0 needs to have its full width I'm going to do pretty much the same thing with 6 and 6 and then when I get to extra small which you can imagine being a cell phone in the vertical position all of these are going to become twelves so that way when it's viewed directly it will be laid out correctly now the sidebars will adjust automatically and you notice that your footer are the other positions have become columns and I want the footer to also be full width as well we'll go back and look at the footer on the other templates and see if we need to make any changes so on this small yeah I'm going to go ahead and and and maximize these positions simply because it makes readability and the user experience a lot better so now I've got on the small screens I think I'm still going to go ahead and blow these all the way out as well it's easier to let the padding and things of that nature take place then to have the template trying to scrunch it up on my footer on the small I'm going to make all of these a large size as well and what this does is it gives you a good idea of what the site is going to look like and as you go down and you can turn off any of these positions you can also tell it that you don't want to see it for example or you can turn it back on all right on the medium I'm probably going to stay with this with the four block here but I need to repurpose this as well so that I have no that's 7 + 5 9 8 6 + 6 6 + 6 always picture this is my tablet users I'm going to do the same thing with the footer so that they stay nice and equal I believe in symmetry when it comes to design it just seems to make life a little better so this is a what it would look like if you were scrolling through a tablet you're going to have the slideshow in your new position here and you're going to have other positions down here and that's okay on a tablet that's going to look just fine and on the large you can come through and you can make believe these positions smaller which is probably what I will do for this one because these may be more information or other articles or services things of that nature on my footer though I want to go ahead and expand these out because a wider foot or generally gets a little more attention a lot of times you want to duplicate your navigate navigation in the footer and this is the footer position that's automatically built in to purity so we've got the purity default and the corporate and if you were creating a different version you might want to rename this here you can you can call this whatever you wanted to and then do a save as but in this case we're doing this as the actual main template so we're going to do save and close and now nothing has really changed on the front end bread comes is now on but what we're going to do is we're going to go to our extension manager and I've got a little component that I'm testing and it's from Joomla geek and it's called the geek layer slider which is here and I've already assigned it to position 0 which meant that I couldn't see it that's the reason we're doing this today to turn that option on and I'm go ahead and put it in published in position 0 my menu assignment is set to home and when i refresh oh say first but when i refresh that new slider should appear in position 0 I'm not sure I've got everything set right it's new to me so you know let me go ahead and add a slider I'm doing this off screen I have some other sites that I don't want to necessarily expose here we're gonna look at us look at the temp folder see what I can find this is this will work and so upload select that as my image insert it's my first time playing with this new module so apply probably shouldn't have used something that simple let's just put a standard banner there in that position our standard image module will do a custom HTML using the jce editor I'll go ahead and click in that's will let me see my images this one will work it's a large one but it's good enough for now I'll call this test position 0 and our menu assignment will be only on the page is selected none and then home module will be in which position position 0 that we just created a moment ago it's it the public looks good say so test position 0 is in place and it is covering the whole screen obviously like I said it's a it's a large image so let's let's go ahead and dial that down let's make it eleven hundred and eight update and save so that we can see that it doesn't break the side and there we have it so now we have an image here we could put a slider in there if we wanted to or things of that nature and it would be responsive in position zero so that's a good start on how to add a position into the Joomla template of purity adding additional positions will let you give you a little more control of what you want to be able to do with the template it's fairly versatile and you have the right features and things of that nature slideshows and things that nature is its able to handle pretty cool things I use the default corporate position like I said it gives me some more options on design and you always come back and add other ones any time that you had to know and if I click six and add another position here I may have to rename these to keep them in the same positions that we're in but it gives you a good idea of how to add that position zero above everything else you
