hello and welcome to this webinar on the CD a potential a mark of excellence this is Katie Campbell I am executive director of the Council for certification in volunteer administration ccba and are delighted to be here today in partnership with volunteer Canada so that we can bring this information to you as possible and future CVA candidates as by way of background of this program it has actually been around since the early 1980s it was developed by the Association for volunteer administration at that time which was an international us-based professional association if the program went through a major revision in the year 2000 to bring it into line with national certification standards and then in 2006 unfortunately a VA had to dissolve as an association and so ctva was established at that time as the new home for the CVA credential and the professional ethics material which ABA had developed previously in 2010 a couple of years ago we were also asked to assume management of another certification program here in the US which focuses on volunteer resource managers in the healthcare settings so we actually now manage both of those programs but it is the CVA that I'm going to focus on today we have been very pleased to establish relationships with a number of national and international organizations that you can see listed here who have signed on as supporters of this credential in recognition of its value as a professional development tool for folks in this field and you can see that volunteer Canada is definitely one of our supporters and we actually have had a representative from volunteer Canada serving on our board for the last few years as with our professional development certification programs this one is based on a set of core competencies which describe the skills and knowledge that practitioners need to do this work effectively there are five core competencies which have been established and identified through a process called a job analysis or practice analysis where the field of practitioners looks like you are surveyed to validate that this set of skills and knowledge is indeed accurate and reflective of good practice today within each of these core competencies there is a number of subtopics which make up what we call the body of knowledge or the continent line and those details are available in our document that you can download from our website as further clarification um just want to mention a few things that about this credential first it is generic in that it is applicable to leaders and managers of volunteer engagement no matter where they are practicing this all types of settings nonprofit sector public government sector for-profit business sector large organizations small organizations the art Public Safety Human Services really runs the full gamut we have candidates from all of those kinds of settings and this makes it a very transferable credential which will be relevant no matter where you are working...
