today i'm going to be bringing you seven tips for photographing your first wedding maybe you have second shot for other photographers or been an assistant before and this is now your first opportunity to photograph as the primary or maybe you have not done a wedding before and you're coming in completely fresh either way weddings are super exciting i have been a wedding photographer for over seven years and i thought it could be fun to just bring together some of my best tips for success in your first weddings so this list could really go on and on it was hard to narrow down but i really wanted to keep it the most important the easiest to apply seven items so i'm just going to limit myself to those seven let's dive in one thing i have to say before i get into the tips is always always always use a contract please even if it's friends or family that you're photographing or it's completely unpaid you should definitely have an agreement in place and you can always go back even if this wedding is very soon and make sure everybody is represented in agreement i think you need an agreement when you're a wedding photographer but you need an agreement when you're in the beginning stages more than ever so use a contract i have a video all about what should be in your contract i'll link that down below let's get into the seven tips tip number one is bring a backup camera i'm sure you have a camera or you wouldn't be photographing a wedding but if you don't have a backup for if that camera breaks or stops working or freezes up or won't turn on you definitely want to get one even if it means borrowing a camera body from another family member or a friend or you could rent a camera body online there are a couple of different sites that i trust borrowlenses.com is one of them i will link some options for you for renting gear but i think it's absolutely worth the peace of mind to know that if something were to happen which things do happen with electronics that you're covered and that you have a backup camera i think a sub category to this is having a backup of a memory card because you might go through more memory than you think and a backup of a battery so just think in backups because you can't redo a wedding day tip number two is bring a friend or family member to help you as an assistant or just someone to hold your stuff even having somebody holding the family formal shot list while you are getting everyone together and working through the day and making sure everybody's standing where they should be is so helpful i can't even tell you so if it's a spouse a boyfriend a girlfriend a family member like whoever if somebody...
