Anneal countersign

okay right guys welcome back to the channel this episode is a real special one it's actually a segment from our reloading course about annealing i hope you enjoy if you want to see more content like this make sure you look for the reloading course in the description or i'm going to leave it print in the first comment thanks for watching as always i'll see you guys in the next video where we will be back to our regular scheduled programming enjoy okay right let's chat about the kneeling so if you guys remember earlier in the course we spoke about all the different aspects that work hardens brass so basically it means that on a molecular level the brass gets harder the more you work it now this includes actually firing the case because remember as you're finding the case it's opening up to fire form to your chamber which we'll chat about more later on when we get to sizing so that's going to work the brass which makes it harder now you're going to size it back down okay that's going to make your brass harder if you run a mandrel through it's also going to make your brass harder and if you're seating a bullet that's going to make your bras harder okay so basically what is achieved through the process of annealing what you're basically doing is heating the neck and the shoulder which is going to change the molecular structure back that your brass effectively becomes softer now there's a couple of different ways to do this i've done this on sort of gas machines i've even gone as far as initially when i started off i had a collet that you put the case in a wireless drill and with a little open flame i would sort of manually anneal and go one two three four five and then dump and then one two three four five then i sort of went on to an automatic machine however what i've noticed with the gas sort of open flame annealers is that there really is a lack of consistency and as with everything we've done throughout this entire course it all goes about consistency repeatability from cartridge to cartridge cartridge that everything is exactly the same because that's going to give us the best results downrange now in my case i've decided to use the kneeling mate perfect machine it is the only smart annealer now what i mean by smart annealer is it actually analyzes your case so pretty much what you've got to do you've got to burn one case effectively so we're going to pop this guy into the machine just now set it up i'm going to show you guys how that works it is something we've kind of done on a youtube video in the past but i'm going to show you in a little bit more detail how this machine works basically it's an induction annealer so we're going to insert the collet the case is going to go inside the machine and it's not actually touching the machine at all and there is no actual heating element in it the case basically gets suspended in a magnetic field and the machine focuses eddy currents down onto the case which basically super heats this case to the exact temperature over the right time which basically is going to give us repeatable results every time okay so let's set that up first of all we need to pop our shell holder out of our press over here because currently i'm already i'm set up for a magnum because i was annealing some magnum cases the other day you're going to lock that guy back in pop this in now i'm quickly just going to turn the machine on in the meantime we're going to head to a kneeling mate perfect website okay so after the website pulls up i'm going to show you guys sort of what i see on the side here we're going to hit the menu button settings pilots and we're going to hit aztec now i've done this in the past but i did it with a different brand of brass now we're going to do lapua bras specifically i'm going to select the caliber which is 6.5 millimeters now remember caliber cartridge sometimes people would ask you what caliber and people will say six five creedmoor is a little bit of a thing that people sometimes use interchangeably cartridge we're gonna select 6.5 creed boom and we're going to say load results okay it's going to load it's going to say we require pilot number 17 which i already know because my other creedmoor is also 17 obviously and our analyze code is 17a okay so we're gonna pop this guy in here let's just take this sort of placeholder out and we've kind of got our case here now something we're gonna need is this case is gonna come out smoking hot so what i like to do just an old dog bowl works really nice um so i'm going to pop that there just make sure it is clean now we're going to analyze this case which basically means this case is going to be throwaway after this but we want to make sure we get this information so we're going to pop it in there now remember what's really cool about this that doesn't touch anywhere it's basically just science that heats it up it's fascinating they've got incredible articles on annealing on amp's website i'm gonna link the research tab down below like it's it's fascinating stuff okay so now what do we want to select we want to select the aztec mode okay so the start button is the enter button to basically go inside the menu okay and we're going to not say run we want to say analyze so this plus and minus button is the navigation we're going to say analyze and i do believe our code was 17 a let me just double check that okay so we don't need to put in a number there we need a 1 there and we're going to need a 7 so i'm just going to back that off and then 17 a boom okay we're ready and now we're going to hit start and we'll hear the machine go click click click click and it'll basically work out at which point this case is optimally annealed and it'll give us a code at the end of that let's go okay perfect so our code is zero one five nine now interestingly enough when i did my alpha 6.5 creedmoor because i've got a little note tab here that i keep everything which pilots i need and which aztec codes i use the alpha code was zero one four five so this is zero one five nine which is quite interesting now basically what those numbers mean the machine is so accurate that it can heat up the case so every basically a bigger number means it's being annealed a little bit longer so what that basically means to me is my alpha cases were a little bit softer um so importantly though you don't wanna you wanna kneel before you resize not afterwards because a lot of times people want that sort of factory annealed look that you get after they've loaded their cases but you're gonna lose that as soon as you tumble and things like that that sort of marking will go away so you want to be doing this when you come back from the range before you've done any sort of case prep on that obviously in my case i've already pushed the old primers out but that's the only thing i haven't touched the dimensions of the case so now this one is going to be number one really really warm but as you can see the neck has completely collapsed on itself yeah i left it long enough it's not so bad anymore yeah um so here we can see the neck is completely wrecked so now what's cool we have the code so generally what i would do i take my phone snap a little picture and if i really want to be creative i can have the headspace or the head stamp in the picture too so i know it is for this brass let me just get that to focus perfect okay so now i've got that picture and i'll also add that to my little spreadsheet reprint this out okay so now we can actually say use this code and it will automatically give us that code so let me get our other brass from the back here and let's anneal a couple of these before we get on to our next steps boom what i also like about it really it gives you a count up so every as you sort of get to five it's going to show you you've already annealed five which is quite cool if you're maybe not counting all your brass or you want to take stock of sort of how many rounds you shot out without physically having to count all your rounds because you're going to need to do the step and then you can come back over to your sort of notes book or your ibi shot counter and just update that that is the app i told you guys about in the other lesson i'm again going to link that down below okay so that's two cases annealed already let's just do all these ones we've resized or i'm let's just so that's two cases annealed already let's just do all these ones that we've de-primed and it really goes pretty quickly they do make a whole system that bolts on top of this which auto feeds the cases but i find this way is it's super quick so not the end of the world so one thing you've got to resist the temptation to actually check if they're hot because trust me if it says annealed it's going to come out smoking hot the first time i did it i like touched the shoulders and i could hear my fingers singed so yeah that's something you probably only do once so last one down and then that's basically going to give us brass that is nice soft back to sort of its factory offering that it came to you in and this process is pretty much going to give us the most life out of our bras you know if you're following setting up your dies correctly as we will do in the next module this is going to absolutely get you to 15 to 20 firings before you start seeing neck splitting and stuff like that and again i'm annealing every single time that i reload my brass it's not every third time or every fifth time consistency across the board so every single step i'm going to repeat every single time to make sure we absolutely have eliminated any possible variables and what i like about the amp machine as i said earlier it's super repeatable i have that code it's going to use the exact same amount of heat for every single case whereas the gas one i would notice the flame start dropping as the bottle cools down or the gas pressure is less and i keep having to adjust that and for me my ocd that just freaking threw me for a loop the whole time so this way i think it's the way to go and uh i'll see you guys in the next lesson we're going to lube these guys up pop them in this guy and set up our sizing die so that we don't overwork our bras right guys so that was a quick snippet one of the lessons from our relearning course i know it was really process specific but pretty much we designed the whole course formed it over multiple days to give you sort of everything that i've learned overloading tens of thousands of rounds over the last couple of years i've stripped out all the stuff that i felt was wasting my time and not really giving me results and i've condensed it down to all the stuff you need to make quality ammo you don't necessarily need one of these machines but it's going to help you a lot i want to thank annealing made perfect for sending us one of these machines to play with show you guys its potential it's been really amazing and a game changer for me with regards to shooting if you want to check out the course it's going to be available for 20 discount use the code send it down below i will see you guys in lesson one if you haven't already assault the like button for me subscribe down here and i'll see you guys in the next episode thank you very much for watching [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] so
