[Music] alright I'm gonna try it and give you a quick explanation of work hardening and annealing so if you've ever worked on silver or gold and you've hammered a piece or you've rolled it out or you've stretched it a number of times you notice that the metal has lost its ability to be malleable and it's actually what's called work hardened and it's it's got some spring to it so imagine on a molecular level I'm not a scientist but on a molecular level imagine a bunch of little bb's or or marbles all lined up in perfect circles next to each other on row after row well when you bend your metal or pound your metal you're actually miss shaping those molecules and stressing them out and and it makes the metal so that it's actually hard so what we do is we will anneal it and I'm going to turn this light off hopefully you can be able to see so when you anneal you want to what I like to do is use a a flame that is not real it's kind of a neutral flame it's it's what they call it bushy flame so you turn the flame on you don't want the flame to be a real sharp triangle at the tip and you don't want to see a lot of orange in it you just want it to be a nice bushy neutral flame and then what we will do is take the metal and we're going to watch it and we're just going to pass the flame over the piece and as you pass it on silver anyway you'll see that the metal will actually kind of right where the tip of the flame hits it it'll actually turn white and then it'll kind of turn like a dull pink and that temperature is where you want it right at that dull pink you don't want it glowing red you just want that dull pink and you want to hold it there for hold 15 seconds or so once you've done that you've actually re aligned those molecules into a into a better state again and now you can take this metal and you can set it alongside your your steel block or something or you can quench it I will I will quench it just for times sake and now what we've done is we've taken again and taken that work hardened piece and reset the molecule so that it's a lot more malleable now we've got our piece here and before it was kind of springy now it's it's just malleable and it's it's workable again so the molecules are happy nicely so there is a quick explanation of work hardening and annealing [Music]
