thanks for joining this quick how-to screencast brought to you by Salesforce support to see more content like this hit subscribe so you get notified when we drop more content have you ever wondered how to make your hot cases stand out from the rest we're here to show you how you can make this happen with a simple image formula first we'll explain the formula in plain language when your case priority is high will display a red flag if your case priority is medium will display a yellow flag and a green one if your case priority is low now we'll walk through how to construct this formula in the formula editor in setup we'll find the case object and under fields and relationships we'll create a formula field with a return type text and we'll name it priority flag we're going to use an image and a case function to build this formula on the advanced formula tab find and select image under functions then click on insert selected function replace the image URL parameter in the image formula with the case function this is telling the image formula to refer to a value on the case in order to determine which image to display and in the case formula we're asking this formula to check the value in the priority field to do this we'll replace the expression parameter in the case formula with the priority field now we're going to specify if the priority is low we display the icon with the green flag will replace value 1 and result 1 with low and our image file respectively continue entering the priority for the value input and the image URL for the result input for each of the other priority values for the case function the final parameter is the alternative text to display if an image is unable to be shown the optional parameter height and width can be removed from the formula click check syntax to verify the formula was written correctly click the next button click the visible checkbox to make the formula field visible for all user profiles or select only the profiles that should see it click the next button ensure the field appears on the case layout click Save we'll finish up by moving this field on the page layout for cases so our support people can make sure the high-priority cases get noticed fast navigate to object manager case case page layouts click Edit next to the case layout and move the priority flag field below the priority field click Save now we've just added this image formula to the object but let's make it even more useful by adding it to our list views so we can see at a glance which cases are in the red navigate to the cases tab and open the all open cases list from the list view selector click list view controls and select select fields to display select priority flag from the available fields and add as a visible field under priority click Save not only can we see the flag here in a list view we see it when we view an individual case as well when we open this case we can see the priority flag field on the page layout here are a few things to watch out for first ensure you put double quotes around your image URLs second if you wish to use your own image icons be sure to upload them to the documents tab or to static resources and lastly remember to strip the domain name off the URL when referring to the image in the formula congratulations on building an image formula field for more information check out help salesforce.com and see all the other formula functions salesforce provides or join us on the trail at trailblazer salesforce com
