seminole police department is adding more training opportunities for officers they say this will be better for the department and the people they arrest news 9's angelicia bruton spoke to the chief and has more on what's to come seminole police chief john withers says he's always looking for better ways to serve the community the seminole police department recently received a ten thousand dollar donation which will go towards creating a high risk warrant team more training the better chief withers says he's putting together a high-risk warrant team of officers and reserve officers with specialized tactical capabilities he says there's a protocol his officers take when responding to search warrants and if the risk level becomes high this team will be called in if it's search warrant and these people have a history of violent crimes then maybe in possession of a gun or violent felon then or would be used that team or if it's a suspect on a run for say a homicide or something then that's what we will call this teammate apprehend him withers says they received a ten thousand dollar donation from a local business in seminole and the city council approved their decision to use the funding for a high risk warrant team we still don't even have all of our equipment yet it's on back order and uh but we have been doing our firearms training uh we have taken our physical test to be on the team and so far i think we have nine personnel i just put on another reserve officer who's gonna be our our team medic just in case something happens chief weather says they're not ready for callouts yet but he can see a change in his officers already it's been a morale booster really i mean there's a lot of guys that's been this for a long time that never had the opportunity to do it we've got a lot of them that's already been swat certified and went through that training and now they are able to use those tactics and teach the ones who have not been through that angelicia bruton oklahoma's own news 9.
