today I'm going to show you how you can use a carbon paper to transfer this embroidery design this is one of my favorite designs that I've ever made and it is a whole Yelland in Paris just makes to look for them in case you know where it is or if you don't know you will have to go there now it's absolutely beautiful and you can see that especially on the finished embroidery version so if you worry about the embroidery part we explain all of that in the pattern you need a fabric and here I've got a cotton canvas it's a thicker cotton fabric and I call it a cotton canvas because we've from experience realize that it's called a bit different in different countries it can be a Panama cotton it can be a thicker Kona cotton it can be you know a garden for furniture is essentially so we call it a cotton canvas and we know that by checking if they're stretched there's no stretch and when you hold your hand underneath you don't see it so it means it's non transparent and it makes it just a bit more rigid because of its thicker properties you have to have an on top transfer which the carbon paper is so obviously you will also need to have a carbon paper you have the link direct link to the carbon paper right below as well then you will also need a little piece of scotch and I'm using a red ink pen if you can take a big pen or just anything any red pen the reason is that when you use a colored ink pen when you transfer it's easier to know which line you have transferred and which once you have it lastly if you don't feel too steady on your hand you might want to just use a small ruler to help you may neat lines and there is no cheating and using a ruler so don't feel bad if you use one I use one from time to time as well especially in the transfer process usually I draw all my designs by hand and then I take help of a ruler when I transfer it I like to cut out my design before I transfer it so let's do that first I have cut it out because it makes it much easier to know where to place it on the carbon paper but this is not the correct way first you have to make sure that the side where the carbon goes down on to the fabric on top of the fabric as I mentioned before it's on top transfer you then place your pattern on top of the carbon paper take some scotch I usually put one on each side to help avoid that the design moves which were thereby distort the design as you transfer it because once you start to transfer you want to make sure that the paper does not move because you want to have a neat transfer if you have never done this before you might want to just make a quick test so here I have another piece of carbon paper and I'm placing it with a carbon down up here in the corner taking a piece of paper which I imagine is the design and I'm going to do three test lines one softer a harder and one really hard one you then take all of them off and you are able to examine how hard you need to push for you to be able to make the kind of transfer that you now this is great if you've never used this technique before because many of our students in our workshop they do their whole design perfectly they take it off and you hardly see it because they didn't dare to push hard enough so that is really one thing it's just quick tip because out here in the corner you're most likely not going to embroider or you will fold it in when you frame it later on so that's completely fine where is the best place to start to transfer I am right-handed which means I will always start from the left and work my way towards the right now if you are left-handed you start on the right side and work your way to the left the reason is that you want to avoid to smear your hand over the ink so start from the opposite side that you hold the pen another thing to think about when you transfer a detail designed with carbon paper is that you don't want to transfer every single little tiny detail because you want to avoid that there is carbon that stays and that then smears out identify the key lines for example these small details here I will add with freestyle embroidery later on if it's filled out surfaces I don't fill that out with carbon paper I will just look at my design for reference and fill that out afterwards Oh stake there are smaller details such as the small hearts on the shutters I'll do that later on as well and also this paid the push so it's the name of the restaurant next by you will not transfer that either I'm getting started with my ruler right away and you can see that I'm being very decisive in my lines once you decide on the line try to pull it once and avoid to go up and down like this because that also risk to smear out carbon [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] voila the carbon paper most fabric carbon papers you are able to reuse them multiple times so just be sure to fold with a carbon towards each other when you store it away and you can take it out and use it again let's just quickly have a look at the differences here you can see how I've transferred all of the mainlines I didn't do all of the small details such as these flowers because I will add those after the bushes you can also add after but the main that structures are here now if you are worried that the carbon paper is smearing out all over the place you can take a piece of scotch roll it around your finger and gently put it on the fabric like this and you will see how the carbon fibers get stuck on this Scotch so this is a very efficient way to take off any additional carbon fibers that might have gotten in the way otherwise if you are just steady on your hand you should have a clean transfer now the next part is just to put on the hoop that you want and you are ready to get stitching don't forget to go to the
