Carbon copy email signature test
How do I view the BCC recipients on an email I've received? You can't. Hi everyone. Leo Notenboom here for askleo.com, with, hopefully one of my shorter videos, because the answer really is that simple. You can't find out who else was BCCed on an email that you've received. That's the definition of BCC. So BCC stands for blind carbon copy, or perhaps blind courtesy copy. In some circles. The bottom line is it's a way to send an email to someone without their email address or their name being visible in the email at all. So a scenario, for example, is you're sending an email to a customer. They are the 'To" line. You may have other people on the CC line so that their email addresses are included and visible to both you as the sender and to the recipients as well. So everybody knows who is on the "To" and the CC line. But you also use the BCC line to send a copy of that email at the same time. To your boss. For example. What that means is your boss will get a copy of the email and he'll see who it was sent and CC to, but his email address will not be present on the email. The other people that get that email message will not be able to determine that your boss was BCCed. That's the definition of BCC. That's the point of its existence. If you could see who else was BCed that kind of negates the entire feature. So the short answer is: you can't. Now I do have to throw out a couple of very quick caveats. There are occasionally exceptions to this rule. They've usually all been fixed. There were bugs that would allow the BCC line, the information included in the BCC line to be included in the email in a wrong way. For example, it might have been in the headers, that you don't normally see. That's been fixed. It doesn't necessarily mean that there aren't email programs or services that couldn't replicate that bug again, but it's such a fundamental way of how BCC is supposed to work that I'd be very, very shocked if it ever existed again. That's your bottom line. Hopefully that clarifies for you. You cannot find out who else was BCCed on an email. For links, for updates, for comments and more, visit askleo.com/11352.
