hello my lovelies I am going to be showing you today how to transfer a pattern like this onto a piece of linen this is one of the recent kits that I've got available in the online shop so I've chosen this most recent one because that's what most people are buying right now so all you're going to need is the off white linen that comes with your kit or your own linen the pattern or any pattern obviously that you have and I use a simple ballpoint pen so we're transferring this pattern onto light fabric today so this is one method of how to transfer it onto light fabric when you peel off the sticker when you unfold your linen or any linen for that matter doesn't just have to be this one you're gonna see that it's got all these fold lines and we're going to have to iron this out because it's going to be a little bit tricky with all these bumps in here to transfer our pattern properly so I'm gonna go off and iron that now there we go much better a nice smooth surface alrighty what we're going to do next is secure this pattern onto our work surface onto the table let's move that sticker out of the way it's really important that this pattern here doesn't move around so I'm going to secure it with four pieces of sticky tape one on every color now that's nicely secured to the table I'm going to get my linen and this is where you're going to start positioning it you're going to decide where this pattern is going to sit on your linen now if you wanted to sit exactly in the center then you can actually make a couple of gentle fold lines one this way and one that way this way we have almost like a grid so you can see this and that actually smooth that out a little it then you can because the linen is white and it is actually quite see-through we're able to see the pattern now what you'll also notice is that I print all of my patterns with a very thick black line some patterns that you receive come printed with a very thin or a very faint white faint black line they're actually quite difficult to see through some fabrics on you then you do need a light box but I deliberately print these with with a dark dark line now you can see here that the pattern is actually visible through the linen I'll just bring my camera in a little bit closer so that you can see it might be a little bit hard to see from far away but when I'm looking at it and this is exactly what I see everything is really clearly visible now once you've decided where you're going to put your pattern we're going to now secure the linen to the table as well and I'm going to be using sticky tape once again and all I'm doing is I'm securing it on the four corners the reason we're doing this is so that the actual linen doesn't move while we transfer the pattern okay everything is ready now all you have to do is just grab a ballpoint pen this is all that I use you can use a pencil if you don't trust yourself but it's perfectly fine to use a pen I'm just going to lower the camera a little bit so that you can see my line work and a little bit better now although that crease line is still visible that's not actually that big a deal because it's it's although you can see it it there's not actually a bump in there so what I'm going to do is I'm going to keep holding the linen down flat firmly with my hand and with my other hand I'm just going to begin tracing over now what you're going to notice is that this linen is actually quite bumpy it's got a beautiful texture and when you start drawing over it you will feel the bumps so you're going to adjust your hand you don't need to press hard and what I recommend that you do is that you draw the line work with continuous movement so as a in in what I mean by that is that you draw the line like this and not like this the reason we don't do it in that feathery motion is because you end up with quite a messy line and you can actually start to see the line work from underneath your stitches if you draw in just a continuous smooth movement you'll get a much neater line all around the other thing that you need to be mindful of is that the pattern is always continuously aligning with what you've started drawing on your fabric quite often what I see is that people become a little bit tense when they're transferring their pattern and that this this hand tends to move the linen a little bit and you see how this leaf has actually come away from its pattern underneath I'm not sure if you can see that so that's lined up and that's misaligned so people sometimes get a little bit tense and they start pushing that in in a way they're still drawing down the bottom here but the top part is now misaligned so every now and again just let go of your linen and make sure that everything is still lining up now I'm going to continue drawing and I'm done and what I want you to note also at this point is that I'm never pressing hard with my pen it's actually a very light movement of the pen over the fabric you only need as much as just for just enough so that you can you can actually see the whole thing alright so I've removed the pattern from underneath and I've taken all the sticky tape off the fabric and next thing that we do is we take a look at this pattern and compare it against what we've drawn and what I've done is I've deliberately left off a leaf you can probably see but there's a big gap right there and it's this leaf right here that's missing and you can slide this back under and reposition it again and redraw that leaf or you can practice by drawing it in yourself because there will be situations later on where you might have missed like a small element and it's just too much work to actually put the whole pattern underneath your fabric again so we're just going to look at it so it's this leaf right there and it's pointing in that direction actually no it's not it's this one right here pointing upwards at a 45 degree angle so I'm just going to draw this line first which goes to about there and then a curve on the top and a curve on the bottom there we go now your pattern is finished and ready for the hoop
