How does signature verification work?

>> INSTRUCTOR: So this video is all about the run-on sentence. Well, what is that? A run-on sentence is something that doesn't have enough punctuation: it just goes on and on. So, how can I find my run-on sentences? Well, in order to do this, you need to look for the independent clause. That's that "IC"--the independent clause. That includes a subject and a verb. It's a sentence that is completed, standing on its own. You want to make sure that you have proper punctuation or a conjunction between each independent clause. This is not a comma! If you put a comma in between, it gives you a comma splice. So let's take a look at a sentence right here. We have "I ate cake it was delicious." I have a subject "I" and I have a verb "ate". And then I have "it" and "was" so I have two independent clauses and no punctuation. This is a run-on. So how can I revise my run-ons? I have a couple of options here. The first thing I can do is add a semicolon. This is the easiest way. So in between the two independent clauses, I put a little semicolon. Done. So what is another option for revising my run-ons? I can add a conjunction. So in my sentence, after "cake" I can add a [comma] [and]" Coordinating conjunctions are all of those FANBOYS. FANBOYS is a mnemonic device for "for" "and" "nor" "but" "or" "yet" "so". So you can throw those in between two independent clauses. Or what's another option? I can just add a period. Sometimes, you just add a period after "cake," capitalize the "it", and you're done--two complete sentences, no more run-on. Another option if I don't like any of those three is to just reword the entire sentence to get rid of the run-on. So in my cake sentence, I would probably add a "when" like: "When I eat cake, [comma] it is delicious." So I've avoided the run-on there as well. How can I get rid of my run-ons? Well, first of all, proofread so that you can find them. And also read your paper out loud; that will definitely help you.
