Thompson Al present for the record are the parties are their representatives and their respective counsel proceeding with the presentation of defendant's case your next witness would be your honor our next witness is Ray Valenzuela thank you your honor as we get started can we um get a time check I've I've got our calculation but I want to know where where we are it's only what you've got I have 25 minutes remaining for plaintiffs two hours 24 minutes remaining for defendants combined okay so where does that stack up with your camera uh your honor we have 33 minutes from here okay but we don't want to see how we're calculating objections we don't want to dispute whatever the court wants to do 33 minutes is fine okay let's balance well step over here serve raise your right hand sir you'll make your way around to my right to the witness stand please and have a seat please proceed as soon as you're ready thank you your honor all right good afternoon Mr Valenzuela can you please state your name for the record Reynaldo Valenzuela uh can you describe your current employment please I am the co-elections director of Maricopa County Election Department overseeing early voting and election services all right have did you have other positions with the Maricopa County elections Department before you became the co-election director um approximately six years ago I was the elections director before we the department had gone through a new range and I also worked as assistant director for early voting and other positions for the last 32 years with Maricopa County elections in your role as co-elections director what are your responsibilities briefly overseeing primarily the early voting process all of its departments as far as special election boards mail out balloting and so on and also Kennedy filing campaign do you hold any professional certifications yes I'm a Sarah certified certified election registration administrator uh through election center and Auburn University held that certification for 16 years in renew every four years I'm also a certified election officer through the Arizona Secretary of State and I've held that certification for 30 years and it's renewed every two years does Maricopa County's process for receiving and processing early ballot packets come within your responsibility it is under my purview and you may note that I just said early ballot packets can you explain why you call them packets and not ballots yeah absolutely so in our department the early voting Department we actually that is our preferred term because I know a lot of folks as far as lay folks would say that ballot was inserted in the Dropbox that's valid and in fact it's not the ballot it's the packet that has to undergo scrutiny verification and validation so our department or the voting department calls in packets because that's exactly what they are until they undergo that verification process to become a ballot that could be...
