praise be jesus christ i have good news for those of you who feel that you've become spiritually dead there's a very simple way for your spirit to come back to life in john chapter 5 verse 25 our lord jesus says truly truly i say to you the hour is coming and now is when the dead will hear the voice of the son of god and those who hear will live do you want your spirit to come back to life do you want god to breathe life back into your soul read the bible read the gospels read the words of our lord jesus christ when i was a teenager i was in a place of emptiness of darkness of brokenness and i began to read the bible every night before going to bed i would read seven chapters a night and i read with with an open heart with a thirsting for god i was asking god to reveal himself to me and by reading god's word it's like a life came back into me i i fell in love with god and and i received the joy of the lord the peace that only he can give reading sacred scripture it transformed me it brought me back to life and even there was evenings i was i started in the old testament i read those boring historical sections and the mosaic law how to do sacrifices there was evenings i would read and i wouldn't have a clue what the point of this was and yet when i would go to bed after there was a joy in my heart because i was simply opening myself up to god's word now the reason i bring this up is every month i recommend a book this past month i recommended saint teresa of avila's interior castle beautiful read i just finished reading it last night i'm going to be doing some commentary on it over the next while but for this coming month the month of august i want you to read the gospel of matthew and i want you to read it like you've never read it before some of you maybe you've never actually sat down and read the gospel of matthew that's how you'll read it then some of you are very familiar with the gospel of matthew maybe this time you'll want to read it with a particular commentary or maybe this month you'll read the gospel of matthew in a different language or a different translation what's critically important is that you read the gospel of matthew with love with an open heart with a thirst for god always asking the holy spirit to give you light and i i promise you and it's not my promise it's god's promise that as you read the gospel of matthew with an open heart as you as you read our lord's words with an open heart it will give you life it will...
