hello i'm steve oxman i'm the senior director of global certification and training for acams hi i'm shilpa arora anti-money laundering director at acam semia so shopa we're here to talk a little bit about our newest certification ctma or certified transaction monitoring associate tell me a little bit about transaction monitoring delighted to steve so transaction monitoring remains a critical control against aml ctf in financial services it does not matter as an organization where you are on the journey of updating your technology stack whether you're using rule-based systems behavioral analytics or artificial intelligence ultimately there is a system that generates alerts when there is suspicion or potentially unusual activity which might er which might give rise to suspicion and it is the review of these alerts um which is what transaction monitoring is all about so examining the alerts investigating identifying whether it's possible to explain these alerts or whether there is indeed suspicion and a sr needs to be filed it does sound like a complicated job so what do you see as the training needs so um as a practitioner i have not seen so many courses that specifically talk about transaction monitoring especially when it comes to training first line operational teams most training tends to be done internally and most training also focuses the deep training on internal frus or a second line team so it's great to see uh ctma in that niche focused on first line operational teams clearing level one and level two alerts so what roles do you think specifically would benefit from attaining the ctma certification so i would see this training being applicable to transaction monitoring analysts so these are people who would investigate alerts that come out of the system be there be system generated alerts or even manual alerts sometimes these are referred to as internal cells in organizations so for those of you who work in operations be it in kycctd or uh screening and hope to move into transaction monitoring one day this course will set you up for success another area is team leads so people who lead these teams so if you're not um you know familiar with transaction monitoring this course uh will make sure that you understand what transaction monitoring is all about great steve you've asked me a lot of questions so i'm going to return the favor and ask you a few of my own so tell me about the ctma certification how long is it how many questions are there in the exam and when is it available so i'll start with the last question first it is available now that's it's very exciting um like our other certifications right there's a training component and an exam component the training takes in the range of eight to nine hours that is very much according to the individual right i mean people take different amount of time to go through training material but it's designed to be approximately eight hours of training and on the exam side it's administered through pearson vue you can take it either at a center or via their online proctoring tool and that certification exam is 60 questions and it will take people approximately 90 minutes excellent exciting so if you work in transaction monitoring if you lead transaction monitoring or if you aspire to work in or lead transaction monitoring ctma is here and uh it is there waiting for you thank you fantastic thank you shopper
