Unlimited CEUs and Masterclasses at AllCEUs for $59 hey there everybody and welcome  to this presentation on trauma  attachment codependency and abandonment  i'm your host Doc snipes in this presentation we'll explore the connection  between disrupted attachment and adverse childhood   experiences discuss how codependency may  make sense from a trauma-informed perspective   and finally discuss trauma-informed strategies  for addressing codependency and abandonment issues secure attachments let's start there they  help us feel safe and loved and provide   support and assistance when we're children  being securely attached to our caregivers   gives us a safe place to go back to when we   experience failure or rejection or anxiety  or any of those things secure attachments are   essential for helping children learn how to  manage their emotions as well as essential for   helping them feel safe and lovable in adulthood we  still need secure attachments though it's not just   like as soon as we turn 18 we don't need people  anymore we do those attachments change though   in chil in childhood secure attachments tend  to be more focused on those primary caregivers   in adulthood we have a lot more people in our  life and each one of them may feel a slightly   different aspect of what we need in our life  but those secure attachments are numerous   children who do not consistently have a consistent  responsive attentive validating encouraging   and supportive caregiver may develop insecure  attachment and if you hadn't noticed consistent   responsive attentive validating encouraging  and supportive the mnemonic for that is craves   early attachment creates a prototype for future  relationships later experiences of rejection and   abandonment can also inhibit secure adult  attachment so just because you have a great   childhood doesn't mean that something won't happen  along the way even into adulthood that doesn't   alter your attachment styles you know there can  be some very pivotal uh toxic relationships in our   in our lives that may uh cause us to feel  unsafe and wonder whether we can trust other   people insecure attachments lead to a pervasive  sense of unsafeness and sometimes disempowerment   which causes disruption of the hpa  axis or your threat response system   and leads to a whole spectrum of symptoms now  normally when our threat response system is   kicked off we have fight or flee you know those  are the two go-to's now but there's also frantic   and we see that more in people who have insecure  attachment they do everything to frantically   avoid uh that trauma they don't feel safe and  they don't feel like they've got anybody else   they can rely on so they become very very  frantic and some people freeze they just   they feel like a deer in headlights they  don't know what to do they don't know   where to go they don't feel like there's  a safe option and then finally there's the   forget about it group and those are the people who  have been too stressed for too long and they just   can't they just don't have it in them they're  just like i...
