is through online freelancing platforms that's how i used to think but really there are two main ways to get clients and i'ma break it down in this video okay one way to get clients online let's get the obvious out of the way online freelancing platforms now these could be upwork fiverr or online jobs ph here in the philippines there's a ton of them out there but they basically do the same thing and that is connect businesses or business owners with freelancers or service providers okay so how does it work if i'm a business owner i go to upwork and i post a job opening or a contract on a specific project that i want to get done and freelancers on upwork apply to that contract or to that project so as a freelance video editing professional i go to upwork and search jobs related to video editing or youtube channel management or youtube channel strategy and once i search for that i apply to that job and if the business owner thinks i'm a good fit he will contact me up to the point where he will offer me a contract to work on his project now in my experience this is the easiest and most direct way to get clients because upwork provides you the platform to interact with business owners directly right you know that this business owner needs this specific project because he posted it he or she posted it on upwork and because of that ease and convenience upwork charges a 20 feet yes you got it 20 feet now you might be asking why does upwork do that why does upwork charge a 20 feet well upwork realizes the value or the importance of having an online platform where you can get clients directly upwork knows how hard it is to get a client and it charges you that fee for the convenience of having a platform where you can directly reach out to clients who need your skill now personally when i was just starting out i got all my clients through upwork or similar like online jobs ph but as i've evolved as a freelancer and as a business i've gone on to learn new ways on how to get clients apart from just the online platforms which leads me to number two all right second way to get clients is through direct outreach now what is direct outreach direct outreach is you reaching out to prospective clients through facebook linkedin through youtube instagram through email whatever direct way you are using to connect to prospective clients now as you can tell this approach is a little bit more challenging compared to the online freelancing platforms because you're directly approaching prospective clients but you're not sure where you're not sure what stage they are in the buying process right in upwork or in online jobs ph they posted the job they posted the project so you know they need help with their business when you're directly reaching out to prospects in facebook and linkedin you're not sure if they need your service right you need to build a connection you need to build rapport with your prospective clients to see if they need your skills or if they need your service so a couple of concrete steps that you can take using direct outreach is joining facebook groups where your target audience is hanging out for example in my case i do video editing and video strategy so i join facebook groups about video marketing about youtube where my target audience hangs out and that's where i interact with them now how to reach out to them once you're in the groups there are specific ways that you can do that to build a connection to build a rapport and i'll probably do a separate video detailing how i do that now another direct way you can reach out to clients is to get their emails so i do this through linkedin where the emails are some of the email information is available or through youtube where i go through youtube channels of prospects who i think i can help and then i get their emails and once i get their emails i collect them in a sheet and then i send them out cold emails now those strategies that i shared with you are all outbound leads meaning you're the one who's reaching out to them directly you're the one initiating the contact another way that you can get clients is to attract them and the way you do that is through an optimized profile now how i do that is through updating my facebook profile through my cover photo and my short description that way when i add a connection in the facebook groups or if somebody adds me they know exactly what i do what i offer and what target market i serve you can do this as well with linkedin where you can update your banner and you can update your description so basically we're just optimizing our profile so that when somebody reaches our profile they know exactly what we do and who we serve and if we're connecting with the right people in our target market once they see your profile most likely they will connect with you if they need your service that's it that's how i get clients for my freelance video editing business now i want to share a secret with
