hello hams and hopefully shortwave listeners this is jarred vk3 Bravo Lima if you don't know me by now and today I'm having a bit more of a look at the icon I see our 8600 and look coming from being a purely transceiver owner and never having a dedicated receiver of any brand this has been a bit of an interesting journey for me the first thing that was quite noticeable for me and this was instantly noticeable is you know obviously this sort of shares its heritage with the icon 7310 and I got a little plugged in I thought you know I'm gonna go listen to the 40 meter band so I went and hid right here on the frequency chart the frequency readout and like where's the 40 meter band what's going on and of course being a receiver and a general-purpose receiver not just listen not just designed for the hand bands it has a frequency input it doesn't have you know sort of like bands now if you're a hand there's an easy workaround for that and what I've sort of done is I've use the memories so there's a radio station and hopefully now I don't have that in the recording obviously the volumes quite down but what I've done is you know on memory 11 I've got 80 meters on memory 12 I've got 40 meters on memory 13 I've got 20 meters that sort of thing so it's not a big deal it was easily worked around and being an icon radio when you when you're in memory mode you can easily sweep a stray from it the downside is it is sort of harder to then go and record a memory if you if you take that approach you can sort of overwrite the one you're on but you can't easily create a new one but you know it's suddenly a small limitation and then given that it's not generally made as a ham only receiver I completely understand and you know where would you draw the line anyway this thing goes from essentially zero oh it's actually 10 kilohertz but essentially zero to three gigahertz so this is quite the tools are having a Shack and there's going to be you know new bands come and go especially in such a broad bandwidth new hand bands come and go from time to time so it kind of wouldn't really make sense to include it and I sort of understand why they haven't so that was the very first thing that got me now the other thing is I tend to try and stay away from manuals and so when I first looked at this thing and it had dial a dial B and dial C I was sort of sitting there saying what what what what's going on here what what why don't these dials have names can someone help me out but it found out it wasn't anywhere...
