all right so I've had them people asked me lately how to calibrate a key machine a key duplication machine basically the same process is going to be true for for just about any machine but this right here is a bell saw and this is my flat steel cutter for steel keys and safe deposit keys it works you know this thing works perfectly fine I just had it rebuilt and so I had a machinist put new bushings in here you can see the brass from that bushing here and here so it's really really tight and put a new rod in and then they also put a new rod and bushings oil impregnated - bushings and stuff in here - so this machine is super super tight right now so I know the machine is not out of balance or anything but what will happen is is basically I just like to go ahead and line these up with the with the actual cutter themselves here and then this has got a micrometer on this side so you can see that it's lined up there and lined up here and so what I'll actually do is take this over a little bit and I'll actually just turn this by hand and listen okay I don't hear anything that tells me that I'm we're just barely cutting now you'll hear it Kath top and I'm pushing this backwards make sure your machine is unplugged when you do this I'm pushing this backwards against the rotation of the teeth let's see if I get some hot uh-huh and you'll hear that this header is actually out of round you'll hear that's the high spot that's the low spot high spot right in there I love spot you know so that's telling me basically you know the cutter is actually out of round but it's not a terrible amount when we actually come over here and take a look at the at the key itself so we can get it to focus here you'll notice that it doesn't really take a whole bunch out of it it's it's it's just barely grazing the top and it's not even really a cut you can barely feel it so that's really the way I do it is just do that by hand and you're gonna want to make sure that whatever the deepest hat is that's where you're setting it because when you turn this thing on its gonna be cutting to that deeper spot so nine times out of ten your keys are probably gonna be cutting too deep so go ahead and adjust that with your with your micrometer over here you loosen this screw you know back it off a little or screw it in whatever it needs to do but that's pretty much how I do it is you can just hear it there I mean you know to the point where even if I put a little more pressure on it I can even get the low spot to grab so it's just gonna matter of how much pressure you put on it and how precise you're trying to be I would rather have a key just a tiny bit higher than just a tiny bit low so you know make sure that you set your machines up properly and they'll go ahead and work with you and produce a better key so for more information check out the website below and even on this duplicator here we're still gonna follow the pretty much the same procedures and just go ahead and touch that to you there just like so if I can hold a camera and do all this at the same time and then just run that by hand it makes that sound and you can hear we've got a high spot just barely and if I put some more pressure on this side I could make it bind a little more but that's right about where we wanted just holding that just like so and I will run this on the magnifier and we can see what that key looks like hopefully we can get it to focus here so you're gonna get an idea what that looks like it's gonna be pretty hard to catch on camera but it's just barely scratching the bottom once again you can't even notice it with the thumbnail and that's how you're gonna line up the K machine again this one was just rebuilt as well so it's got all fresh bushings I'll finish everything the cutters a little dull so that could be replaced but other than that it's good to go hey guys you know help me out and help me help you out right below the description box right here is a red subscribe button subscribe to me and then you're gonna get the latest and greatest information that I put out sometimes it applies to you sometimes it doesn't you know it's just gonna at least let you know that we're putting out new and current information and then right over here is a thumbs up button give me a thumbs up help this video rank higher in the searches for the search terms that you're using and let other people be able to see this you know that's the best way you can help interact leave a comment I will get back with you if I can and try and help you answer your questions but the more you interact and post this to Facebook Twitter Google+ and spread this through the social media the more that allows me to be able to help do more videos so thank you so much for watching I really appreciate it and subscribe share and like thanks a lot guys appreciate it
