that's what I need to do is get the text from my various written pieces into my broadside to begin to lay them out because they're going to take up a lot of space in my broadside and I want to start to get a sense of how big they need to be in how much space I have left over afterwards for pictures and other things so I'm gonna go ahead and I'm going to hide InDesign and go into word where I have the sample persuasive essay I'm gonna go ahead and highlight all of the text now there's more than one way to do what I'm doing in InDesign and this isn't the most sophisticated way of doing it but I think it's probably the most foolproof so I'm gonna go to edit copy to copy my text of my persuasive essay and then I'm going to go into Adobe InDesign and use the type tool and again I'm going to draw a box the size that I want I think I'll keep it to the width of one column and I have a cursor now inside that box I'm going to go ahead and go to edit paste and you'll see that it pasted the text from my article and I'll see clicking inside I see that it's 12-point font up in the top that's about right I could make it a little larger to make it easier to read on my broad side but I don't want to make it too large because I want to fit everything I need to fit on that the two pages of your broadside remember that you will use two of these pages for your broadside so here I have only one the other is up here and I'll go and fill that one in later so you have two whole pages to use here now you'll notice that once I've pasted in the text in the bottom right-hand corner of the text box there is a little red plus sign that tells me that I'm not looking at all of my article there's more article than is appearing in this text box because there wasn't enough room so I click on the black arrow tool and click on the red plus sign and click over here in the other column and it takes the rest of it and starts to fill in that column there's still more though so I'll click on this plus sign click up here in this column and now it looks like that is all of my persuasive essay so that looks pretty good I think actually then I'll change how this is laid out and I'll stretch this all the way across and try to get this to fit all the way across so I'll reduce the size of the text till it all fits on one line there we go and I use the black arrow tool to shrink this up so it fits and it's definitely beginning to come together let's transform it use the black arrow tool I'll hold down shift to select all of these and move it up so that I have some extra room which I can use to insert a picture later on I'll drag each of these columns to make them larger which leaves me a lot of extra space here at the end which is good because then I can insert a picture and I'll have space to work with so I'm going to go ahead and do a safety save now that I've done a lot of work so that is how you go ahead and copy your word text and paste it into a text box
