hi this is Bob from volleyball technologies in previous videos I went over basic multi-monitor setup and some basic troubleshooting in this video I'd like to go over the way to change which display your system thinks is the main display now what is that and why does it matter well what I have here is I have my Dell laptop and I have a new Sonic 4k display connected to its HDMI output and right now windows says that my internal display is my main display and that's denoted by the desktop icons that I have and the icons I see in what's called the tasks tray down here by the clock and then and the date but what if I don't want that what if I want the external display to be the main display where my icons are and where things default to being open well the way we change that let me switch that you can see my desktop properly is to go to the display settings application that we've seen before and you can see my internal display is display number one and my external display is display number two as a refresher if you're not sure which is which you can click the identify button and it will show numbers on your display again if you didn't see that identify number one and number two so display number one the internal display is selected and if I scroll down you can see this option that's in gray it says make this my main display it's grayed out because I can't make the change and it's already checked indicating that that is the state that my internal display is my main display now if I want to change it how do I do it you can't really change this here and the trick is that you actually have to click on the display that you wish to be the main display in this case display number two so if I click on that to select it in blue and scroll back down you can see the option is no longer grey it's black and it is available for me to check to change that state so I just to click in the box it'll put a checkmark in there it'll turn gray and I click apply and what you can see on my desktop is my desktop icons have gone away from here they've moved over to my display they're a little hard to see because this is a 4k display so they're very tiny but they're there and the task tray icons have moved over to the other display so if I want to change it back to the original way I just have to scroll back up click on the number 1 for the internal display you can see I can now make this my main display and click apply and you can see now the icons have come back the desktop icons...
