hello everyone my name is deja and today i'm going to be talking about books that mean a whole lot to me so i got inspired through this video because brie from the channel in love and words did a video called how i met my books and i just loved all the stories that she told about like how she discovered a book or maybe like a funny story that happened when she like went to go pick up a book or something like that like she just has so many interesting stories so i'll definitely link that down below and please go watch it because like it's definitely what inspired me to do this i didn't have as many like cool and cute stories to tell about some of the books that i own because i honestly started reading a lot of why a because of like booktube and then like subsequently because of bookstagram so a lot of my stuff is just because like oh i saw like a ton of people talk about it or it was like really popular or whatever i couldn't make a video exactly like hers but i did want to make something similar so i decided to just talk about a few books that mean a lot to me for one reason or another and also some special editions that i own so i don't have a ton of like special edition books i'm kind of getting into more of like buying collector's editions and stuff because it just wasn't something i really cared about before so we're going to start off with that and then i'll get to the other books that i kind of have a little bit more to say about one of the first collectors editions i own is of the hate u give hopefully this is gonna come up on camera well it's like this metallic gold and it's the coolest thing ever i literally bought this i think the day that i went to see the movie like we stopped at half price on the way in because like that's what i do and it was there and i was like i have to have to get this book so my mom bought it for me that day there was just no way i could not walk away with it i had literally sat in the theater after the movie ended and like cried because this book means like just so so much to me like it was insane to read about like stars black community and like her black neighborhood and i just felt like i knew those people like it was it's just insane this book is literally one of my all-time faves and there was no way that i could not have this really awesome collector's edition so i own two versions of this book which is like the regular one that i have kind of tabbed up but maybe the next time i do a reread of this book i'll add some tabs to this one the next book i have is the 10th anniversary edition of city of bones so this one i do have a bit of a story with essentially what had happened was i went to this book festival that cassandra clare was going to be at and festival is completely free the only thing you like buy is like the books there i went with my friend because both of us really wanted to meet cassandra clare and so basically they were saying all you had to do was arrive early and like get in the line to like get the tickets and stuff so we got there i think a good like hour and a half early and um it was not early enough because we got there and there were absolutely no more tickets for cassandra clare this is like pre bookcon so like now i just like get how many other people also love cassandra claire and so i definitely should have got there way earlier but you know whatever so we got there and i was so bummed about it the good thing is we still got to see her on like some of the panels and like stuff that she did but like it didn't hit the same so to make myself feel better i bought this 10th anniversary edition of city of bones i had already really wanted to get this and so the fact that they had it there just kind of made everything a little bit better this book has like the gold sprayed edges there's like the cassandra jean art in the inside and it's just an all-around pretty book i also just i like the simplicity of the front and back cover and then it has our signature in it it's not like personalized but like it just came signed so whenever i do my reread of the series i think i mentioned before that like i really want to which is really daunting because like this is like the series that got me into reading but love this that's why you'll literally always see me wearing my engine room necklace because this series does like mean a lot to me it's what introduced me to booktube and like all this stuff so like if it wasn't for the motor instruments i wouldn't be here that's just that okay so the first book does kind of have a funny story with it so this is actually a signed book that is personalized to me and it is a court of thorns and roses by sarah j maas so akatar which is the first book in that guitar series it's often overshadowed by her cooler older sister akamav which is like one of my all-time favorite books and like you know we don't give akatar basically any love because of akama but this book i don't have akka math sign i do have this one signed though i was anticipating this release just like counting down the days for it to come out and then one day i was like you know what let me see if sarah j maas is going to be going on tour for this book and i just decided to go ahead and check to see if she was going to be anywhere in my area she wasn't and so i was like okay that kind of sucks but i saw that she was going to be in the city that my grandmother lives on the day that i was looking at it so like i looked at it i'm just gonna make up a date maybe it was like may 24th or something like that and may 24th was the day that she was gonna be in the city that my grandmother lives and i was like holy cow man so i called up my grandmother and asked her if she would be willing to go to this signing for me and she said yes so my grandmother literally went to a sarah j maas book signing for me and got this book signed so i'm going to open it now and it literally has the signature from sarah j maas of course sarah j maas and then this little note says to deja wish we could have met your grandma is amazing and it says heart sjm i know like this sounds insane to think that my grandmother went to this book signing for me a sarah j maas signing and like got this book made out to me by sarah j madison like in my copy of acotar it's gonna say that for like ever two days you wish we could have matt your grandmother is amazing like my grandmother is amazing but like now sarah j maas knows that my grandmother is amazing and i'll be honest so my name here on um youtube is disor obviously but i'm like city of deja and basically everything else but it that wasn't always the case i've always been city of deja on my bookstagram but youtube has always been deja sore and my twitter at one point was also deja sore and i have this screenshot of sarah j maas tweeting me because i tweeted her i think something about like this book i don't have the tweet anymore because i don't have that account anymore i'm just going to insert it because i honestly can't remember exactly what it says but that's another reason that i will like i refuse to not be deja store somewhere so that i can always have this like linked to me i don't know it's obviously not that big of a deal that's another reason that i'm like so set on keeping this username on youtube so then she got the book signed and she just mailed it to me and i read it and i mean i loved it at the time that i read it i honestly don't think i would love it as much just because i know how great akamath is but like this book is always going to hold a special place in my heart this is the only sarah j maas book i own that signed that's quite interesting that's probably the most interesting story i have here so the next book i have here is waiting for tom hanks by carrie winfrey so this is actually an art and you honestly can't tell like the advanced reading copy like little thing is super discreet on here like it's this little thing then at the top on the on the side it says available 6 11 19 which is last year this book means a whole bunch to me because this is one of the first times that i had personally sent out a review request email to a publisher i sent it out into the void and i was like crossing my fingers hoping that it would work out so this isn't one of the first arcs that i've ever gotten but like i honestly started receiving arcs because i had made a business email and like put it in my instagram bio and so different publishers would reach out to me as i started getting more into like bookstagram and stuff i would get like emails saying like hey we think you might be interested in reviewing this book something like that i hadn't really had to like send out review request emails before but i really was interested in this book when i heard about it this is when i was really getting into adult contemporary romance a lot more so i sent out the review request email to berkeley and i didn't hear anything for a while so i was like okay well that's all right you know it's good sometimes they're gonna go unread or maybe they just don't want to send it to me that is okay and then like weeks or maybe like a month honestly went by and i got an email back from them and they were like yeah we'll totally like send you this book for you to review so i got it and i read it and unfortunately this like was only a three star read for me but like the fact that this was the first time that i had actually like sent out an email requesting to review a book and the fact that they were like yeah we'll totally send you this book i don't know that just made me so extremely happy and from this day forward i started taking reviewing a lot more seriously before this honestly like i didn't make my bookstagram to become like a book reviewer or anything like that but like now i realize that i can do a lot more with my platform so i think it was like april 2019 that i read it and reviewed it and posted it on my instagram and i was like holy cow like this is actually really really cool before that i honestly didn't see myself as a reviewer i know that like other people did because like i talked about books online but i never really saw myself as a reviewer but like now i kind of do i just started to cherish the online book community a lot more and it really opened my eyes to what i can do as like a book reviewer this book although it wasn't my favorite still brings me those good vibes and i'm really happy that it was sent to me all right so this could not be a book where i'm talking about books that i love if i was not going to mention this particular book it's one of my all-time favs i own multiple copies of it and that is anna and the french kiss by stephanie perkins so this book has been through okay sorry the lighting keeps getting a little bit weird this book has been through a lot with me i love it so so very much not only is this one of my faves this is one of the first books i had actually ever got signed festival that i was talking about earlier that i got the city of bones book at three years prior to that i went to this signing in 2015 and i got this signed and i met stephanie perkins and it was so so so freaking cool i literally have a video it's on unlisted now i'm gonna leave the link below in this video where i literally i met stephanie perkins and it's like literally of me like trying to keep my cool while meeting her and she signed some of my books and it was just the best moment ever and i'm so so glad that i documented that now i can like look back at that when my anna collection has grown so much i can look back at that and be like wow like this is really where it all began so little did i know that like the following year a little bit over a year later i was actually gonna be in paris and so i took this book with me and i took a lot of cutesy touristy shots with it while in paris it was beyond like anything i would have ever imagined this cover used to be matte it's still matte but it's like it's kind of messed up now although like i'm so so excited for the new 10th anniversary collector's edition to come out next month i'm pretty sure i'm so excited for that although that book is gorgeous and i'm so excited for it to come out this this one right here this copy of anna with this beautiful gradient cover and the eiffel tower in the background like all of it this copy of anna is always going to be like number one in my heart just thinking about everything that has changed since i read this book for the first time the fact that i was kind of able to live this like dream of mine i think i have a photo of me with my foot on point zero i think i do and i'll put it up here y'all i love this book a lot like is it if it's not obvious i can't even really have coherent thoughts about it because i just love it that much okay so that's it folks these are all the books that i'm
