in today's video i want to show you how to use canva to make a podcast cover our image totally for free using very limited design knowledge pointing at this guy right here very limited design knowledge we're in canva if you've never seen canva before it's a free photo editing or digital imaging uh platform you can make a whole ton of things in one of the other videos i made a podcast press kit or as apple calls it a podcast brief which is a summary of your podcast that you can use to hand out to other people who might be interviewing you or you might be interviewing them and they don't know anything about your podcast nice little takeaway there but here we are in canva i'm going to go into the search field up top scroll to the bottom click on custom dimensions now itunes wants at maximum 3000 by 3000 image dimensions i think minimum is 1400 by 1400 same same with many other platforms the critical point is that it's square that's the most important part uh if it's not square then you might have problems submitting your podcast to or definitely itunes you'll have problems but many of the other ones might reject it as well so one of the cool things about canva is it's fairly easy to use and they get some cool elements so let's say we're making a football podcast that's the first thing that comes to my mind uh football american football so what i'm gonna do is click on background first we'll start with a background color let's just go blue or maybe we'll do some gradient and then change the color to blue it doesn't really do the gradient that way but that's okay let's make it a little bit darker we're actually a little bit flatter like that okay so now i have my background you can then go into their elements and this is where it can get pretty fun so i don't know we'll do the stereotypical podcaster which is a microphone right so we'll do a microphone and again if you're just on the free plan you might just look for the elements that are free and let's just pick this one bring that in and i'm going to change the color on that to be something not gray i'm going to bring whoops i don't want the same color i'm going to bring this actually a little bit different here i'm actually going to make that a lot bigger and do this no there it is something like that i'm going to look for football this is a football podcast i'm going to grab this one because it has the biggest pop i wonder this is just me doing creativity right off the cuff this is this is this is some fun stuff i hope you're appreciating my uh level of podcast i mean design prowess bring that over a little bit to cover up the microphone huh we're getting there we're getting there we'll bring that out just a little bit now we'll bring in some text so we'll call this one let's just see they have some nice pre-designed um pre-designed headlines here let's just see what this looks like i'm going to call this show between the uprights which is a a um football phrase for anybody who's kicking a field goal so let's bring this down 144 we'll select the whole thing here 144 and click back off bring this back over oops i'm having troubles with my track pad um look at that so it's a microphone which kind of looks like a field goal post uh and uh it's called between the upright so it looks like that football is going right between the uprights and then we'll do one more which is like a signature almost well not a signature but let's use this one this is this is this is really overkill here but we'll say hosted by we don't need that to be that big but canva has some nice guides so we can always center these things even though it kind of looks terrible centered there but why not we'll do the same right here we'll go control v we'll copy it how about that whoops between the uprights hosted by matt medeiros i don't like it how it does that i don't like the complete center there so let's just select both bring this to the center podcast cover art totally free on canvas.com remember you go to the search field and you select your custom dimensions yo three thousand by three thousand which would be perfect for itunes remember it has to be square and then you just let your creativity run 100 wild don't let anyone tell you different uh between the uprights it's a podcast about football field goals hosted by me thumbs up if you liked the video subscribe to the channel if you want more we'll see you in the next video
