Mark arrangement
hey everyone this is a music tech help guy today I want to show you how to use arrangement markers in Logic Pro 10 they are a really cool way to build out your arrangement without having to do a bunch of copy and paste work and frankly I'm surprised I haven't done a tutorial on them yet so let's get right into this so that what you can show these is to click here and what this will do is it'll show your global tracks you can also press G on your keyboard to hide and show this so up here are things like your regular markers your time signature your tempo a range of markers are a lot like regular markers except that they have control over the arrangement down here so what I've got here is at the beginning I've got sort of like this build up intro then a measure 9 I've got sort of like an instrumental section where the beat drops [Music] then it measured 25 I have the verse [Music] and then at 41 I have the chorus [Music] so what if you want a quick way to flush out this arrangement without having to do a bunch of clicking and dragging and copying pasting and things like that so this is where the arrangement track and the arrangement markers really come in super handy so I'm gonna just set the playhead at measure one here and then I'm gonna press the plus button here and this will create a new arrangement marker now it automatically names this intro and you can click here on the name to choose different titles for it or you can click rename to give it your own name so measure nine is where I have like an instrumental drop so I'm gonna hit the plus button here now it by default it calls it verse I'm gonna click on this and say rename and I'll just call this instrumental section and then what you can do is you can hover over the right side and you can trim up the length of the section so let's put that at measure 25 then at measure 25 I have my verse so I'll click on this and choose verse as the name I'll expand this out to measure 41 then measure 41 is my chorus and it automatically names that chorus and then I can drag this out as far as I need needed to go okay so I've got these sections labeled one quick side note as these can be colorized so if you press option C to show your color palette you can click on these to select them and choose a color for each I like to do that it's just a little bit easier to look at by the way when you minimize your global tracks they do not show up as the regular markers do so just keep that in mind you have to keep the global tracks open in order to see these okay so the most helpful thing about these is it's very easy to copy and paste these now if I just hold option and click and drag on my verse and pull it out past my first chorus you'll notice that not only does it drag the arrangement marker over and make a copy of that it also copies all of the musical information all audio and MIDI regions down below over to where I duplicated it and I can do the same with the chorus so now I fleshed out my song as intro instrumental verse chorus verse course so maybe I wanted my instrumental section to come back I'll just hold option and drag this over and then maybe I want the verse again sort of as as like an outro so there's my whole arrangement completely fleshed out now let's say that later on I decide that I want this instrumental section to come before the second chorus here so you can just drag the arrangement marker where you want it and it'll automatically shuffle the surrounding markers to reorder the arrangement of your song okay so one of the weird things about this and I'm not sure if this is a bug I'm assuming it's a bug and hopefully they fix it in the next version of logic is the arrangement sets now you can create arrangement marker sets so right now this is just labeled default so I can rename this and maybe I want this to be called you know version 1 or something so let's say that I go in here and I duplicate the first set I'll call it version 2 and let's say that in version 2 I want the chorus to come after the second instrumental section now if I go back to version 1 see how it switches the markers but it doesn't actually switch the content so I find that that's got to be a bug I mean in this would be great if we could have different versions of our arrangement we want to switch back and forth between those I know there's alternatives that's another way to do it but that's the whole session I just want to be able to quickly switch between two different arrangements and it doesn't seem like it does that it does change the the markers up here but doesn't actually change the content in the arrange window so that's got to be a bug if I click on this suspend content connection and then switch between these it makes no difference so I thought maybe that had something to do with it but it doesn't all that does is it allows you to move a marker without moving the content underneath it if you turn this off and I move the content again you'll see that it actually moves the content and the arrange window along with it so that's all that does is it suspends the connection between the marker and the regions below it so if anyone has any insight as to using arrangement marker sets please leave any feedback you want in the comments below or maybe it's working perfectly fine for you it just it for some reason it's not working for me let me know in the the comments below so regardless of that bug using your arrangement markers to flesh out an arrangement and logic is incredibly helpful and like I said I'm surprised I haven't already done a tutorial on this so I hope you guys enjoyed this video if you did please leave me a thumbs up and subscribe to the channel to see more content like this also if you'd like to further support
