on the bill chair today we're back at my friend Doug Cameron's job site where we're going to give you all the inside scoop on how to use zips liquid flash and take your zip wall to the next level [Music] we're back in Doug Cameron's job site Doug's the president of ESS design-build building an incredible house with zip our sheathing and last week Doug kind of revealed his whole system and how he does it but on this week's episode we want to actually give you the details on how he installs it some insider pro tips from his crew so let's get right into it Doug this system I love it this is a super watertight super airtight system let's start at the foundation and work our way up and see if we can kind of reveal the mystery of how you do this so first tell me about this joint between the concrete in the bottom of the sheathing absolutely so I assure you there's nothing very complicated to this system and people all over town do want to know how we're doing it and we would love to share so we start out with the bottom juncture right here which typically a through wall flashing detail would be called for requiring some primer and then going back with a nice thick through wall flashing tape so in this instance what we've done is we've simply taped everything off masted off with painters tape got a nice beautiful horizontal line and then we've come back and we've talked the bottom of it with this with this zip right here this is a pallet flash and you know the caulking tubes are usable as well really whichever way you want to go with it and then and then we've actually brought more material up about 12 inches on the wall as our typical detail giving us a very robust you know barrier to water to insects and all that sort of thing and you and I both been doing numerous remodels in our lifetimes have experienced rot right at this Junction right here and so we just don't want that to happen in our projects we want to build those hundred year or two hundred year you know houses so anyway then moving on up we've got our fasteners here and though zip does not require that you cover any of these fasteners we figure we're already here and it literally takes us another you know 20 seconds of fastener if that so we just go ahead and hit everything we can why we have the opportunity and and then we actually hit all the corners of our walls and then once we get to the to the joints of the sheathing we've usually got an eighth of an inch gap and that's what zip calls for just for minimal expansion and contraction so at these junctures we our own personal method is that we we take...
