what's up guys junior Raymond back again at the training center in turbotech and Chesterfield Michigan we all know how to play lane patterns right we know the basic moves when to move left when to move right I would assume that wouldn't we I don't know let's talk about it alright so one of the hardest things to do is to actually get lined up from the beginning of when you're bowling and really understand where you're supposed to be on the lanes making the moves afterwards generally it's pretty simple once we know where we need to be with our feet and where we want to throw the ball but we don't really know what the move should be from the beginning during practice when we're trying to get lined up because what we're taught back in the day or when we're bowling league or when we were in youth leagues they used to teach us to if we if the ball was coming in light then we needed to move our feet to the right and close our angle down if the ball was coming in heavy then we needed to move our feet to the left and open our angle up to be able to get the ball to the pocket again so that's actually backwards from what the majority of what we're trying to do today because the patterns are flatter so most times you actually want to do the opposite if it if the ball is coming in light you actually want to move left if the ball is coming in heavy you actually want to move right now it depends on its if it's later in the day you're obviously going to do to do the normal move but if it's early and you're just trying to get lined up and you're on a flatter pattern that's what happens so let throw a few shots and I'm going to show you exactly what we're trying to do but I'll throw the first one you'll watch it'll go heavy and then watch what happens with the second shot after I make a small move so watching that you would look at it and say just move your feet left just keep moving left give it a little bit more room and you should be good right that's not necessarily the case this is a 38 foot pattern a little bit flatter in the middle of the lane so watch what happens as I move my feet left I'm just gonna move two in one I just missed the head pin left on a two in one move why well it's because where I moved my feet there's actually more hook the lanes are flatter so I don't have all that oil in the middle to help me keep it on line what I need to do and I'm just trying to get lined up this is simply for trying to get lined up from the beginning as I'm trying to as I need to actually move my feet to the right now as I move my feet to the right my ball gets into the taper area of the pattern you start to see a little bit more push on the front part of the lane so watch what happens now I'm gonna take that same ball reset it from where I was now I'm just gonna move my feet five and five to the right from where that first shot was closer so now let's keep going now I'm gonna move a little bit more to the right I'm not gonna move left I'm gonna move right watch so that was five so now let's go two and two more now we'll go to and two right see there see how much it push that time so if we look at the spec toad data you can see that was just a little bit right of last shot so let's split the difference let's go back one left so now you can see that ball came up a little bit light and that doesn't mean I'm gonna move right I'm not gonna move right because there's a cliff there you can see there's more oil to the right so now I'm going to move my feet to the left to get away from that little bit of a cliff make the one on one back left this should be perfect if I throw it good well minus the 10 pin but you can see it got to the pocket a whole lot better to where it was supposed to so rule of thumb here is there's really not a lot of rules that you should follow that you're used to I don't want you to go into a bowling center now if you're in league and you're going to make your moves based on what you were taught that's fine that's great but if you want to learn to bolt on the tougher patterns do you need to take this stuff into consideration when you're going on to a longer pattern most times you're gonna say well my ball is not hooking so I need to move to the right no that's not what you want to do what you want to do is on a longer pattern you actually want to move to the left you want to get further or get closer to the pocket if you move to the right you're taking your ball further away from the pocket and that's just not what you want to do you want to bring the ball closer to the pocket not further away if you're not seeing hook why would you want to throw the ball further away from the pocket so and the opposite is true with the short pattern if you uh if you're on a short pattern you want to bring your ball further away from the pocket to give that much time to hook back into the pocket so that way and then if you move left you're actually bringing it closer now you have to use such weak balls that's why everybody gets tricked when they move left on a short pattern because they see so much hook it forces them into these super weak balls and they get a bunch of over/under they watch their ball either hook earlier or never hook down lane and that's just not what we want so we want to use the stronger balls and move to the right to blend the pattern out and to get the ball to hook from further away from the pocket rather than closer to the pocket I know this probably sounds a little bit confusing and we'll go and we can go into more detail you just got to make sure to kind of pay attention to what you see when you're on the lanes based on if you're on a flatter pattern or a more tapered pattern like a league pattern if you're on a league pattern make your typical moves if you're on a flatter pattern remember that if it's not hooking you want to get closer to the pocket if it is hooking then you want to get away from the pocket so it's all up to you how you want to do it that's not this isn't to say this is an exact science it's going to be different but the majority of the times this is how you're gonna want to do it so I hope this helps if you have questions make sure to hit me up in the mug club you're gonna want to sign up for the mug club to ask those questions because I'm not able to get to all the questions in here so make sure to hit me up in the mug club if you haven't line up for the mud club head over to life's traction control com sign up for that which will make it a whole lot easier for us to make all this content and to be able to teach you and answer all your questions at will so subscribe to this page make sure to head over to turbo two-in-one Grips page and subscribe over there as well and we will see you guys next time [Music]
