you [Music] hello my name is Danny Castillo and I'm with the Avaya global support services team this video will show you how to generate a signed certificate for a biocontrol manager using Avaya RS system manager as your CA alright I want to provide you with some information before we get started that will help you as we proceed with the video first off what is a by a control manager if I control manager is an operational administration solution that enables administrators to control key administrative elements across the Avaya product portfolio moving forward in this video I will refer to a via Control Manager as control manager what is a via a via are a system manager the via are assistant manager is a central management system that provides a set of shared management services and a common console all shared and element specific management for Avaya our applications that system manager supports is done from the common console moving forward in the video I will refer to a via are a system manager as system manager also in this video please note we are using system manager version 7.0 so if you currently use a different version some of the screens may vary what can you expect to learn from this video when you are done watching this video you should be able to generate a signed certificate for control manager using the system manager as your CA why do you need to know this process Control Manager ATEX requires a secure web access HTTPS by default previous versions of control manager did not require secure access for correct functioning of the SMG our certificate when using this process demonstrated within this video it will be important you understand that you will also need to deploy the root CA on the clients accessing the ACM web interface otherwise you will get a certificate error when using a public CA such as semantics for instance no deployment is needed on the client as the browsers are shipped with a repository of trusted root CA certificates and they are regularly updated with browser updates to make sure that only the ones running secure and trusted operations are trusted by the browser during this video presentation I will be following a documented process called generating a certificate signing request in iOS this process can be found in the installation document for control manager I'm using this process and as as it is required as a part of the steps for generating a scientist certificate within SM gr on this slide I've included the exact steps you will see me follow during the demonstration portion of this video it might be helpful if you print screen' these and then follow along as you watch me demonstrate these steps on this slide I have the steps we will use to download the s MGR root certificate alrighty let's get started the first step is to log in to the SMD our web interface under services we'll select security than certificates then Authority and the menu on the Left we're going to click Add End entity we need to populate several fields to the end entity in the field called end entity profile you need to make sure it shows inbound TLS in the user name field you'll want to use your control manager server hostname or something relevant to ensure you know that this is for your control manager server in the password field and or a password and make note of it to ensure you remember what it is the password is also referred to as the enrollment code in a step later on in this video the next field you need to complete is the CN common name field notice there are two fields with this same name we only require the first CN common name field to be completed this field must be your control managers a fully qualified domain name the next field you need to complete is the certificate profile and it should show ID underscore server the CA field should show TM default CA the token field should say user generated what you've completed these fields you can now click the add entity button so you'll notice here at the top that the end entity and it gives the server name has been added successfully ok let's move on to the next step on the menu on the Left we're gonna click public web you'll notice that an entire new webpage is opened separate from the one you were previously on this page is the eg BCA interface and is where we're going to actually generate the control managers assigned a certificate and the menu on the Left we're gonna click create certificate from CSR this opens up a form we only need to fill in just a couple of fields here in the user name field we need to type the same username that we typed in the previous step in my example I typed in my control manager server name so I'll go ahead and type that now in the enrollment code field remember this is the same as the password field from the previous step so just type in our password so now as you can see in the middle of this forum we have a large text box we need to enter the data from the control managers a certificate signing request in iis this is the process i spoke about earlier and we'll go ahead and perform that process now so that you can see how to obtain the data needed for this textbox ok we need to go over to the control manager web server open up iis manager tool I already have it ready to go here okay we're going to click on the control manager server then we're gonna double-click server certificates on the top right hand we're gonna see create certificate request we'll click that in the form that's popped up enter the server name or the fqdn of the control manager server in the common name field it is important to note that if the name entered in the common name field does not match the host name excuse me of the control manager server the certificate will not be valid and users will not be able to access the system using their browser so we'll go ahead and complete the rest of the fields here okay after we've completed all the fields we're going to click Next in the cryptographic service provider properties box we need to change the bit length to 2 0 4 8 then we click Next it will now be presented with a save as dialog box you'll want to click the Browse option and choose the location you want to save the certificate file to okay then you need to go ahead and type in the name of the file I recommend using the same name you used in the common name field also it's important that you'll want to add a dot txt as I've found a couple of times here in the past that for some reason it just does not open up automatically when you try to right-click it and open the file up so by adding txt that seems to help it out okay once you're done selecting the path and the file name go ahead and click open and then we want to click finish okay this completes the process of creating a certificate request we now have the data we need to complete our signed server certificate request that we were performing over an SMG are we want to open up the certificate request which is also known as a CSR open the file that you just created in iis okay we want to copy the contents of that file into the large text box in our certificate enrollment form or excuse me it's certificate enrollment from the CSR once you've pasted your CSR data into the large text box you'll want to confirm that the field called result type is set to pim certificate only okay we do have it set to PEM certificate only okay you're now ready to generate your server sign to certificate so go ahead and click OK you should see the certificate was created and the signed certificate file should download as well if you'll notice right here over in the far left-hand corner it did go ahead and download we'll need this file and we'll want to place a copy of this on the control manager server to complete the configuration of HTTP all right now that we have our control manager assigned to server certificate we'll want to download the system manager root certificate which is also needed since we are using our system manager as our certificate authority from the system manager main page click security certificates authority and then see a structure and CRLs and we're going to click download PEM file you'll notice that your system manager root certificate file does download now that we have our control manager signed certificate and our system manager root certificate file we'll want to copy these over to the control manager server I'll go ahead and do this now as my final step in this video ok locating my files over a my downloads directory and I've created a folder called certificates on my 8.02 server I'm gonna paste them in and that completes the process thank you for your time today we welcome comments questions and feedback at mentor at a Viacom or on twitter @avaya mentor for more details or related information please visit support davai accom thank you for choosing abaya you [Music]
