hey what up guys it's kid up here and in this video I would like to talk about like does age actually matter in graphic design especially I think like this is definitely one of the topics that I I'm asked very often on my channel and for the people who has watched my video like how do you study co-op design by yourself II do I think like that video I have a lot of people that I felt like 30 years old 40 years old watching that video and they will ask me so does age actually matter if I finish all of these steps or I will actually get hired by a company so this is definitely in my mind as well right like I'm a new designer and always wonder what would I be doing if I'm 40 50 years old um will I still be able to get the jobs and all that right so I think like this is definitely a topic that I would like to unpacked and share my thoughts with you guys what do you think about this and so I think like what brother if H matter for design cough design is really depending on three main things and the first thing is the type of design that you do second is um the type of employer that you would like to work for and the third is your level of expertise right so let's get into you know like these three things and like I can do each one more in depth um so the first thing is the type of design that you would like to do so like I said right waffle design is a very big turn and you have you know local design you have illustration work you have poster design you have like your on UX there's a lot of thing around um that you can be doing right so like maybe one of the things that you determine to the table design is how long has that have a design been around for so for example local design has been around for you know thousands of years where you have Aflac and then the flag has like a logo on it so local design has been around for a very very long time um so for design that has been around for very long time they may not be affected as much by your age so think about right now if I would like to hire a person to design logo for my company right it really doesn't matter how old that person is but I care about how much experience has he has to design logo for other businesses Frank so for example if the person that would design the Nike logo maybe people will be rolling keep him or her a lot of money to design that logo right so like for stuff like that can test the test of time then then definitely this kind of design will be you know valued doesn't matter if you're older or younger but now think about if you are a local if you are a you know UI UX designer and UX has been around for only I guess like 10 years or maximum like 15 years 20 years so in people mind this kind of design you know are mostly for young people because a lot of young people getting into this field right and also think about the technology side of things like they changes all the time 10 years ago like website design doesn't look anything like what we have right now right because the dimension the campus size the technology has been creeping so quickly so for stuff that has been changing like every 10 years so these are the design that is a little bit people will you know in Denmark you would think that you know young people can adapt to new things more quickly versus like old people right they tend to not be able to adapt as quick as the young people in terms of technology so you may have a bigger problem if you are getting older and you're not adapting to it then you may have a problem finding a job if you're older and in people mind they would like to hire the people that can adapt to changes very very quickly because in this field it does change very quickly like web design you know you I new digs dishing just all the time so the tablet design is very important when you're thinking about does age actually matter and the second eye what a game to you is the type of employer that would like to work for it so you can work for a big company you know Apple Google Microsoft and all these big companies right or you can work for start-up you know like ten five people company or you can work by yourself you know what you know like freelancing right so I'm gonna talk into each of these thing as well awful big company when I was having the interview with know Google and Apple and Facebook I think a lot of designers out there older people especially Apple a lot of design and ter they were like 30 40 years old and Apple like the company tree don't care about people that are older because the company has been around for a long time and they won't just fire decide like don't just fire the employee very easily like startup right so for an older company you would definitely see a lot of older people and usually I would say that you know people their age they like to work with people that are in a similar age so if your company has a lot of older people like bangs you don't care about if you're younger if you're older doesn't really matter but now when you think about working was started where I started with a new company so new company usually if you want to view your business right you build your business around like 30 years old 14 years old so you'll be working with a lot of people that are very young right like 20 30 40 years old people especially in the middle like you special in the 30 age these are the people that kind of work together all right so if your goal is to you know learn graphic design and then to work for companies like that right you may have a problem because like like I said people in the similar age they would like to work with people in a similar age so startup may be a problem and then eventually you know running your own business right running your own business your feet answer or you want us to deal then I'll say like if you're in this group of people age may not matter as much because people don't have to work the rally face-to-face with you right as long as so you can produce good work people that usually generally don't care and like in a lot of call right you don't even have to show your face so there's multiple clients that I work with they've never seen my face I've never seen their face before we basically just chat online and then you calls and stuff right so in case it's like that nobody knows how old you are so again like second thing is like the type of people that you'll be working with if is you know a company you may not matter as much if it's smaller company startup type of company it may matter because like people like you work with people that are in the similar age and then lastly coming to you the level of expertise so how good are you with your craft for it so now think about um the most popular people on Drupal or the most famous designer um it really doesn't matter if they're 40 years old if they're 50 years old I believe I actually think that you know the top guys on Drupal right now I think is about like 30 40 ish and if it is 50 I tell people have any problem hiring that person right because like that's all the level of expertise that he has right your work speed a little volume I would say like about all of this thing right your work speak more than your age so age is like think that people have the in mind but you can change that perspective of people's mind if you do really really good work right if you're if you're top-notch if you are well famous if you're popular among the designer industry then people will pay very good money to hire you Google Apple Facebook all these big companies right they will acquire people that has a certain level of expertise and hire them to be leading the team right so your expertise definitely speak a lot more than your age so to sum the whole thing up I really do you think that you know rate depends on your your your type of skill if you have good skills then you won't be you know worried about if you're gonna get hire or not because I'm pretty damn sure that people are gonna hire you but if you are a young designer if you're just getting to it if you're like 40 years old 50 years old just getting a design and then you're trying to find a job that may be a problem because right now you don't have a lot of bottom in your work and people will judge you more based on your age if that makes sense because even if I want to have a person keep working my company right I want if you're especially if you're a junior I want people to be able learn quickly and if you're older people just assume that you know you don't learn as quick as a young people so that is that may not be true but that is usually something that in people's mind um so this is what I want to talk about this topic I hope that you get some value out of it and if you do give me a thumbs up and
