if you do wind up signing a lease for a new place you are probably doing it digitally through a service like docusign yeah you know it's the way most legal documents are signed anymore but scammers are sending fake docusigns you know they are that look like the real thing so josh is here to verify new warnings out there and what you need to watch out for we're all going digital can be a problem yeah i don't remember the last time i signed something with a pen uh like an important document but of course we're using these e-signature services so much more now so scammers are seeing them as an easy target so here's our sources on this this morning starting with docusign the company issued an alert that they have found that hackers are hiding malicious hyperlinks and fake documents in legit docusign to try to infect your device with malware according to an email security company avanon so the hackers are either creating their own docusign accounts or they're hijacking legitimate accounts that are out there so here are the red flags to watch out for heroes you're getting these look at the email addresses that they're coming from unusual are there any sort of misspellings in there that's a good sign that something's off but look because even if it does look like it's from an official docusign address watch out for the email and if it has attachments that's an immediate clue it's not legit docusign says an email will never contain an attachment it's likely from a scammer if it does and always this is a good rule in general look for bad spelling and bad grammar because yes scammers are using these emails now either directly through docusign or that look like docusign to send you these what they're called fishing links right that's so aggravating you know somebody's always out there trying to get you is there any other way that we could tell whether this is legit or not uh so one way normally if you look at the bottom of a docusign email it's got like a special unique code to it that's there and you can go and enter that on the official docusign website to access your documents right so if it's a fake one that looks real you go enter that code it's not going to show up on the official docusign website but like we were saying hackers some of them are using legit docusign accounts so that's why they recommend you never click on any links in a document without hovering over it like this first you can see exactly where it's going to go and look for that https at the beginning that means it's secure and we talked about this last hour you know you could go old school get on the phone call the person up remember who supposedly is sending you the document and just verify that way...
