all right now if you are a fan of the channel you know here that we talk about filmmaking gear tips and tutorials but also we talk a lot about how to turn this passion of filmmaking into a full-time business and that's what we're going to be talking about in this video we're going to be talking about the five ways that i myself have been able to keep my production business afloat during 2020 which hasn't been easy but adjusting has been the key what's good creative fam brandon washington here and as i mentioned today we're going to be talking about the five areas that i use in order to actually keep my business afloat now if you've been around the channel for a while you were probably here at the beginning of 2020 and you realize one of the areas where i was able to keep my business afloat and that was doing real estate video now the key to doing real estate video is actually not that difficult and one of the main reasons why i chose to do a lot of real estate videos is because there are so many realtors and so many houses being put on the market daily see the one thing i do love about shooting in the real estate market is that there is just a mass majority of customers there are so many customers and they all are kind of in different realms which means that when you are trying to cast your net there is basically the largest sum of people that you can reach out to now it's very easy to also find real estate agents because they market themselves like crazy which means it's easy for you to find them whether that's on facebook or linkedin on a bench on inside of a phone book i mean you name it real estate agents want to get their name out there which means for you as someone who's trying to obtain their business they're very easy for you to get now i actually created an entire training course on how i actually go about getting the business capturing the real estate videos and all that stuff and i'll have links to that down below in the description and we'll talk a little bit about that a little bit later but the thing i want you guys to think about is that for me and this is just kind of a true humbling statement before the pandemic really hit i had kind of given up doing real estate videos not because you know i didn't enjoy doing them but it really was because my business kind of took a shift i kind of went a different direction but when 2020 sort of hit i saw that a lot of my more commercial production business stuff kind of halted and so i kind of had to take that little bit of a hit to the ego and go back to what i knew and go into an area that i knew i could actually gain some business quickly because that's one big key that's gonna kind of travel throughout all of this is that i was in a situation where i was trying to actually make money make real cash for my service and so this wasn't just like some idea this was like a business i knew i could go into and make that cash so i kind of took a step backwards in my overall journey of video production going back to real estate but that was so that i could make the cash i needed in order for my business to be successful so if you were out there and you're trying to figure out how to actually go about making some money during these times real estate video is definitely a way to go links down below to a training course that'll walk you through the entire process okay the second area that i actually kind of stumbled my way into kind of surviving through 2020 was live broadcasting now i've kind of hinted at this a little bit in my channel but the interesting thing about live broadcasting is before this year i had never really done live broadcasting i mean i had dabbled with it here on youtube but definitely not at the level that i really needed to and the interesting thing about doing live broadcasts especially for a video production company is that you probably already own most of the things that you need in order to get into live broadcasting now you can do it a very simple way or you can go the more complex way but the interesting thing is that here on youtube there are so many videos that will walk you through the entire process that since you already own most of the gear which includes cameras and tripods and lenses you don't really need that much extra now if you want to go the multi-camera switching route you can obviously go with something like this here now this actually just happens to be a pelican case but inside here i actually have the black magic atem mini pro and this thing is like maybe 600 or so so it's an investment but this allows me to do multi-camera switching and in fact this entire case setup here i actually learned how to do this by watching a youtube video from caleb pike over at the uh dslr video shooter youtube channel and he actually walks you through how to build this entire thing so literally everything i've learned in order to do live streaming i learned here on youtube and have instantly been able to kind of grow a secondary section within my business because of this whole pandemic and people not being able to gather a lot of places are not able to have actual get-togethers which means being able to live broadcast them is kind of the next best option and so if you can start offering out that service using the gear you already have maybe picking up a couple little pieces of extra gear but then ultimately providing them a service at a very reasonable price tag for them well this is an area that not a lot of filmmakers are in there's not a lot of mobile kind of live streamers out there so you can definitely carve in a really cool niche in your city now i know some of you guys might be thinking well brandon i don't really want to do live stream but i still want to keep my business going what are ways that i can actually do some filmmaking but during this season well the one way that i've actually found is by working with companies by still creating content for them but by using either creative ways of implementing zoom video and pre-existing content see a lot of people have shot content on cell phones they have photos they're doing zoom calls constantly and something that's really interesting that you can do is you can still take all of this information and craft a pretty compelling story with voice over see that's actually something that we did for a local school here in the houston area is we created an entire video without actually shooting any video of their people or their teachers or their students or any of that we just used pre-existing like footage that they had along with some zoom footage that we were able to capture and then we took one day to go inside the school and capture something with plenty of social distancing in order and this allowed us to still create some awesome content i think right now because not a lot of people are able to gather or get together to actually shoot things you have to start thinking creatively and so if you're out there and you're looking to pitch video to clients one thing i would definitely go in there is figuring out ways to create content that requires the least number of people getting together but also come up with a creative way to make it to where everyone can feel confident at the end of the day because we're not meeting in person online content is even more important for most businesses so this just means that they want it you just have to come up with a creative way for them to do it and so for this third tip i recommend coming up with some creative ways to use things like zoom or any other video chat in order to create awesome content for your clients all right and the fourth tip that i have or the fourth suggestion i have when it comes to figuring out ways to get some business going during this time and that is to work for churches now i've talked about this in a previous video but churches are one of those areas that need content every week and especially now more than ever because so many churches are trying to basically catch up because you'd be surprised there are some big churches that have amazing media teams but most churches don't really know what they're doing and so if you can come in as a professional and assist them they are more than willing to pay you for your time now i will personally say that i work for my church and i don't take a salary i don't take a paycheck i do it all for service but i do work with other churches and so what this means is that i'm either coming in to assist on either a specific video project or if they have a service that doesn't conflict with my own churches service i'll actually come in and help them with their live stream again going back to that live stream tip that i said earlier see churches are very much like businesses yes they have the religious side of it but i will say at the end of the day they still need to create that content because their goal is to bring people in and that's the same thing that businesses are doing so your service that you typically are giving out to businesses or you know business owners or companies whatever those are the same type of services that churches need but i can tell you this that typically churches have even less knowledge when it comes to media because their main focus is on their religion and you know whatever that religion's goal is so it's important that if you're going in to offer video advice or offer video services you're coming in to give them that expertise so just go into it with that mindset and trust me i can tell you there are tons of churches out there that could definitely use your assistance and the fifth and final way that i was actually able to kind of make it through this whole pandemic is actually thanks to you guys i mean here on this youtube channel i've been able to release content which ultimately helps to generate some income but on the next side of that i was actually able to create the creative fam academy which is my training course platform and this isn't like a sales pitch so don't don't click off but i will say that it is important for you guys as filmmakers to start documenting your journey i'm going to lend you guys in on a nice little secret most people who hire you for your videos don't really care about the video itself it's more about what the video can achieve and the reason why i say that is because when you are going out there and you're creating content for other people think about creating content for yourself and start posting that content online see if you can build up your own audience whether that's on instagram tick tock youtube wherever you can actually start to help your clients by showcasing their videos on your platform in order to get them more viewership which is ultimately what they're looking for and so this fifth and final tip has a lot to do with being able to build up an audience create content for yourself because you never know when you can either offer something to that audience that's actually of value to them which is what i try to do with the creative fam academy but then also in return you can then also make money from that which i have been able to do which has greatly assisted me through this transition now the one thing i will say here is that it's important not to just sell whatever to your audience i mean everything that i try to sell through my platform here on youtube always has to do with helping you guys to become better filmmakers so whether that is my contract bundle if it's presets if it's training courses around a specific topic i always try to make something that i know is going to help you guys to ultimately give you the most value so then you can become better and so i would say the same thing to you if you're just getting started go ahead and get started it's not too late to start building up your own platform but ultimately when it comes time to try to sell something to your audience i'll say make sure that it is something that can actually give your audience value because then you'll be more successful but there you have it guys those are my five tips my five structured ways that i've been able to kind of help my business to stay afloat during this 2020 year it has definitely been a whirlwind but i'll tell you the biggest thing especially as we go forward no matter where you are in the world is that you need to make sure that you have a business that can pivot just like when mcdonald's starts selling all their fish sandwiches during lent because so many people give up meat during that time period they shift or they pivot during that season you need to make sure that your business is ready to pivot no matter what life throws at it no business is always perfect every business goes through ups and downs and the ones that come out of those valleys and kind of gets back up on the heels are the ones that are able to quickly make a pivot in order to make sure that their business continues to thrive but thank you guys so much for checking out this video if you have any questions definitely those down below in the description give me some feedback i'm trying to get back to the business videos but they don't typically get a lot of views but if you guys want me to release some more business related videos leave those questions down below check out the links and i'll catch you guys in the next one peace
