hey guys welcome back to freedom homestead I'm tangi and welcome to home-school nesting week we are exactly one week away today that I'm filming this from our first day of home school for the new year and for the last few years I have just naturally been inclined to kind of nest and I've heard from some of you that you do the same thing so I thought I would just share my homeschool nesting week with you guys it is very much how it sounds a lot of women we have this natural inclination to nest before we bring home a baby and I have had a natural inclination to get my helm ready for a home school year so that is what I'm going to be doing this week and I thought I would bring you guys along so what I'm going to be doing today is I'm actually going to be going through my pantry my refrigerator and my deep freeze and my freezer in here making a list of everything I have and I'm also going to be kind of cleaning out and reorganizing everything and making an inventory of what is in everything I know that I have some deer meat in the freezers that I think I want to either can or grind up into ground deer or maybe both I haven't really decided yet I just have to wait and see how much I have but that would be great for quick meals and during home school year I am all about the quick meals so yeah so we're gonna get started I'm gonna start with my pantry first we'll start at the top cabinet we'll work our way down up here is where I keep dried and that was my dog she's very loud when she lays down anyway in the top here's where I keep all my canned goods and some dried goods and then in the bottom is where I keep jars I also keep most of our baking supplies so we'll start here let's get to it okay so it's kind of hard to keep these cabinets open back you can see I've got a lot going on here I'm gonna start by pulling everything out putting it on the table wiping out the shelves making my inventory putting everything back so let's get started [Music] see it's clean and it's wiped down I'm using this ever spring actually picked this up at Target it's in the citrus and basil scent oh it smells so clean and natural I love it anyway so yeah this is all wiped out and I've got everything out right here so now what I'm going to do is I'm going to do my inventory I'm going to categorize you know canned meats pickles home or like home canned stuff this is gonna take me a little while [Music] okay so I just finished inventory and you might be thinking to yourself why in the world would anybody want to write down everything they have in their house well the truth is sometimes we keep pushing things to the back of our pantry and we forget what we have so I'm like already thinking of a couple of meals I can make based off of things that I forgot that I already had I'd like makings in here for casseroles and soups and I've also made a to-do list of things that I want to can I have a lot of dry beans that I would really really want to get in my pressure canner and that way they can already be ready I don't want to go through the whole soaking and cooking phase so definitely going to be candy some black-eyed peas and some black beans especially black beans we do a lot of tex-mex meals and so it's just really convenient to have canned black beans to put in soup to put in you know taco salads and things like that so yeah definitely have a lot of things to do so now I'm gonna take everything and put it back in the cabinet but a little more organized and it was before I've got everything back in the top part of the pantry and I'm gonna start working on the bottom part but before I do that I want to take you downstairs and show you what my husband did for me okay friends we are down in the basement this is kind of where we store all of our homeschool stuff and we had this shelf over here actually two shelves like this right here we had some things kind of stacked over there in the corner and he moved all of this out for me and he has put in two shelves as you can see I need to clean them but he did this for my to be my extended pantry so what we're gonna do is I'm gonna clean these up not today but soon when I start getting more things that I need to store I'm going to clean these off and I'm going to line the shelves with like the slip things and I'm also going to create curtains to block light out just that way it my food will last a lot longer I actually have some things that I can store up here which would be egg curtains that I have been saving for when we get chicken so that would be a perfect place to put them but anyway I'm so excited about this [Music] okay so now I've got the bottom done and I've added some more stuff to the top here in the back I have open can't see I've got some canned jalapenos I've got pickles I've got all that stuff store in the back and I'm just gonna leave that there until I am able to get my extended pantry downstairs cleaned up and ready for inventory so let's see down here I had a whole bunch of flour but I opened up to almost full bags of flour and they had bugs in them y'all anyway so the rest of the flour that didn't have bugs I went ahead and put them in the freezer so now I'm paranoid forever umm but yeah so I just I reorganized my baking area I put some risers in the back and so I have all of my keto friendly baking stuff back there so my own flour coconut flour Truvia all that stuff peanut butter flour all that's back there and then I have just regular making stuff here so I've got a baking mix I've got oatmeal just regular white sugar that's unbleached wheat flour here I've got some canning stuff I've got my pickling salt and my vinegar and then my canning jars here's my sparkling waters and then this is just some stuff that I had vacuum sealed in jars I'm so grits popcorn that we grew a few years ago and some rice that's all rice so anyway that looks a whole lot better okay so tomorrow we will tackle the refrigerator and the freezer see you in the morning okay friends it is the next day and it is already one o'clock in the afternoon and I'm just now starting my freezer and refrigerator inventory so what I'm gonna do is I'm I'm not gonna take everything out but I am just going to you know go through make a note of what I've got I may have to pitch some things I don't know but one thing that I have already done is I have taken out some deer meat which you can see it sitting over there and I'm letting it not completely thaw I was planning on canning it but then I decided that we would better that this I need to just grind it out so we can use it and you know whatever we want so anyway so I will be grinding that today and I'm going to finish up my pantry or finish up my inventory and then once I have everything on paper of what I've got then I can start meal planning and I can also think about batch cooking so for example I've got tons of shredded zucchini I also have bananas that need to be used so I will most likely be making some zucchini banana bread in the near future or something like that so yeah so I want to get this done today so I can move on to the next thing ok friends so I made I ground ten and a half pounds of deer so now I have ten and a half pounds of ground meat down in my deep freeze firming up so I can vacuum seal it that pills so good anyway I'm just I'm really excited about that I did leave one I have one deer roast in doubt and the deep freeze downstairs for us to use it as a roast but I'm super excited about having ground here in my freezer okay so I'm gonna go ahead and start taking the inventory of what I've got in here and then you know see if anything needs to be pitched or whatever [Music] okay so I just went through my upstairs freezer and I cleaned it out there were several things in here that needed to go so I took inventory and then I also just kind of reorganized everything so I now have a lot more room in my freezer than I did before which is good because I already decided tomorrow if I go to my salvage store and they have more this coffee that I got from buy one get one free I'm gonna stock up on some more of it I actually don't need to do my refrigerator just because I cleaned it out right before we left for Michigan so I already know what's in here and I'm not worried about it so I'm gonna go downstairs to the DA so it's not gonna be that hard there's not a whole lot of things in my deep freeze and so yeah we're just gonna take a little sneak peek and see what things so I still have some cranberries that I bought on sale a few a couple years ago over here this is some of the stuff that I brought downstairs from yesterday from the pantry I've got my bread flour some coconut flour some almond meals this is from a can of applesauce that I opened from a big can from a salvage store and I've divided it up and put it in two of and two freezer bags down there I've got a big bag of quick grits I've got my bag of whole wheat flour I have some frozen these are peppers that I brought down to freeze I'm gonna bring those up and vacuum seal those there's more frozen squash under that that's another bag of cranberries and then over here this is all the beautiful deer that I just found that so what I'm doing is I'm building it turnip in the freezer and then I will vacuum seal that will keep blood from sucking up into thee into the vacuum sealer so oh and there's also under the peppers is a rabbit that's been butchered and ready to eat so yeah that's what's going on down here okay friends so now that I have taken inventory and I know exactly all the food that I have I'm going to start meal planning from what I have on hand and also I'm really concentrating on my stockpile right now and so now that I know what I have I know what I need and I'm also going to start working on my new pantry my extended pantry that Jack put up for me the plan over here is to of course clean this really well it's been out in the garage but also I'm going to get some shelf liners for it and then I'm also gonna make curtains for it and yeah and now I have a place to put all of my egg cartons that I've been saving I have a big big stack of them upstairs and then this is where I'm gonna have all my empty jars so yeah really excited about that you guys I wasn't planning on making this part of the video but you saw where Jack put the shelves downstairs for me to use as my extended pantry right well I came to my local Dollar General to get some shelf liner y'all they're having a 70% off clearance sale guess what was on clearance shelf liners this is Clorox shelf liners mold and mildew resistant I got it for 76 76 cents a roll so excited so I hope you guys enjoyed this video it is time for home-school nesting now I know what my food situation is which means I can meal plan and have quick meals ready during the school year very excited about that I'm also now very aware of all the frozen bananas that I have and desperately need to make some banana bread and some banana muffins great school snacks and breakfasts so now that I've got a grasp on the food and I know what I need for stockpiling I know what I need for complete meals it's time to move on to the next phase which is cleaning hope you guys enjoyed this video stay tuned for more home school nesting videos I've got a lot to do in just a few days so let's get cracking until next time
