i'm going to show you how you can make a legally binding contract so you can take your freelancing to the next level [Music] so i started my journey on upwork and as i did everything through upwork i invoiced i got contracts i got clients throughout work upwork had to take a cut which was 20 and as my rates were rising and i got more clients they still took that 20 which in the end ended up being way too much so i need a way to take on clients while still having that legal protection that upwork offered me so what i did was that i found bonsai which is an all-around freelancer platform which helps with contracts invoicing hourly rates and a lot more honestly it does just about everything so the first landing page that you see when you first log into bonsai is this page where it asks you what you typically do on a work day now for me that would be design and consulting next is what kind of freelancer are you if you're an agency or if you're a studio or if you're just a part-time freelancer now that would be me i am a part-time freelancer as i am still a student and next what you see is what you are most interested in for the platform now i'm gonna be sharing contracts but they do offer proposals time tracking invoice payments and accounting so we're just gonna click contracts for now okay so then once we get into this actual landing page we see that we have the four options that bonsai mainly contributes to we have the proposal the contracts the timers and invoices now we're going to do a contract for this tutorial and we're just going to go with a sample client here and we're going to leave the currencies and everything as is just to show you exactly what the platform can actually do and we're going to hit create contract now this is the best part about bonsai where you can change where you are and what you do in a very easy way so the first thing we're gonna do is change where where i am me personally i'm in the united kingdom i'm in england and i don't work through a company so this section your client could be a company or a person uh for your the example you can use a person and here we're just gonna say a few examples of what a designer could be hired to do you can add a lot more obviously and then here in the payment section this is where you get to decide how much you're going to get paid if that is a flat fee per milestone per rate so you can do that a per word rate if you're a copywriter or a daily rate if you're an advanced designer so we'll just do a flat fee of 100 pounds just for the example and then before the work starts we will need a deposit generally for bigger projects this would be mandatory so for example we can do a thousand pounds for the deposit and for the remaining amount we can then invoice them at the end of the project and usually i do 14 days 14 days for the client to pay the invoice and if that doesn't happen then they have to pay a 5 per month and it will start on today which is august 28th and it will end in a month now we can change this to whatever day we want we're just going to leave it to that date and so then from here it asks us if we want to create an invoice but i'm not going to create it just because i like to do this myself but you can absolutely create it automatically now once you've gone through the steps of actually creating the contract it takes it to this which is a default design contract in which it has all the specifications that you added the fee that you want where when it starts where it ends the deposit and everything in between and everything that's highlighted here you can actually change and have have the client for example have to give credit if he shares your work or or just any any of the highlighted areas are generally very easy to change and so once that's done uh your job is to then sign it and send it off to the client now what i would do here is just type in my name and confirm my signature and now my name is completely signed and i'm legally bind to this contract when the sample client signs from here on out we can send the contract to the client and type in their names their emails or we can send by a url now this is a great tool but unfortunately it's not free so what i have done is i've referral code which gives you a month free if you log in if you sign up with my link that's in the description or in the area above um if you have any questions please let me know and don't forget to subscribe uh this was actually my first video so if you did enjoy do let me know leave a like and hopefully i'll see you on the next video
