[Music] you're now listening to the shippers toolbox presented by refund retriever hey guys brian with reef and retriever and today we're going to talk about fedex id scanning that will be implemented very soon so on june 28th of 2022 fedex express and ground will enable id scanning functionality for domestic deliveries that require an adult signature so this id scanning technology will electronically capture the recipient's name and automate age verification the new process is going to remove the need for a manual data entry of the recipient's information and improve the accuracy of the information received so this id scanning might be a leap forward for automation efficiency and cost savings there's going to be many consumers that might not be so quick to accept this new policy if fedex only records the data outlined below that you know we're going to talk about then the possibility of data misuse is low but data compromisation is always possible and identity theft is always an issue that people worry about so what date is fedex going to collect with each id scan so they will only record the first initial and the last name on the id and currently that's part of the existing proof of delivery information that's already captured for all signature deliveries fedex will not record or store other personal data encoded within that recipient's id so like the driver's license number the birth date home address picture they're not going to store all that information so if the recipient of your package does not want their id scanned you know if they refuse there's there is some options well the option is basically the driver is going to have to manually enter the date of birth and the first initial and the last name and according to some drivers and some blogs and some places that i've read this is not their most preferred method because it's going to lower their number of drops per hour because all fedex drivers are gauged on how fast they are and how much you know how fast they're going but this manual entry is going to take a little bit longer so it might create higher signature fees in the future because it's going to reduce the efficiency of those drivers next question that we're going to look at is what if the recipient does not have a driver's license so other forms of id are acceptable so like a passport and fedex said that's only available for ground deliveries i'm not sure why a u.s state id and a military id the name on the shipping label does not have to match the recipient's id so somebody else still can sign for your package and they're going to attempt this delivery a few times on some of the blogs i've read they basically look for it once and if they drive by another time then if they know they're driving by they'll try it one more...
