hello YouTube this video that you're about to watch was going to just be a corporator cleaning for this mercury 50 horsepower outboard but at this point it has turned into a fair amount more than just carburetor cleaning so I'm going to break it up and do a few videos but we will get to the bottom of this why it's not running right and you know if I'll show you the steps of my troubleshooting to get it there in the next few videos so if you're watching this you're probably either subscriber to me or you're having issues with yours your outboard also and I'll show you what you know what I'm dealing with them hopefully you can learn from it or you know get some tips so thanks for watching this and don't forget to like the video subscribe if it helps you well I'm going to clean these corporators what my situation is is I have a pontoon boat with a 50 horsepower Mercury 2 stroke outboard and last year I had a couple issues with it it always started always idle fine but whenever you would go to you know get going down the lake it would kind of who kind of stutter wouldn't wouldn't get up the speed that I typically would put it in neutral and rev it up and it would straighten it out so I had some sort of issue that it had something to do with maybe the carburetors or it's not getting enough fuel so I mean I spent a summer doing that you know revving it up and whatever knowing that you know I would take these off during the winter when I went to take the boat out of the water for the last time I well the only time I leave it in the water all summer but I went to take it out and I almost didn't make it to the marina because of how bad how poorly was running I couldn't get anything over basically I so I think these may be clogged but I am also going to I believe I'm going to go try to get fuel line in the morning I'm gonna change these small fuel lines and I ordered a new fuel filter it's on its way and I got new spark plugs for it so if the carburetors don't seem to be the issue once I take them apart you know I have a few other things to do I think it also it might be an issue with the primer bulb on the fuel line coming from the fuel tank we'll see this is going to be the first thing it's most likely causing my in my book so I'm going to break down each one of these carburetors individually I'm going to start with which what would be the top this one and then just work down and then not put them all back in their respective places I'm going to go ahead and clean one out and see what the insides look like and then on the second one here I will videotape it so you can see what it looks like and we'll do a little documentary on whether this fixes it or not little note I want dad to this video is if you are if you're not a mechanic and you are thinking about trying this these carburetors are the most simple carburetor you can you can you can get there's very very few mechanical actual moving parts to it so if you're going to attempt something to try it do it on this because it's this is as easy as it's going to get I've messed with dirt bike carburetors that had electronics going to them and all kinds of different things even like they're mikuni dirt bike carburetors are more complicated than this this is as easy as it gets all that's holding it together is this bar here and a couple fuel lines if you're wondering if you can do it you can this is downright simple all you got to do is clean and out put it back together see if it works if not then you know you're going to move on if you end up having to spend some money to pay somebody to adjust the carburetors or do something crazy like that so be it at least you know that either this was the problem or could have been the problem and you did something on your own here we go this is the fuel filter it's the first thing I took off and if you could see that down in there there's a big chunk of black that is on the inside of the filter so something has gotten past this filter and it definitely needs replace up a good chance that there is stuff in this carburetor because that's you know step one you can see the inside of filter and has stuff in it so we're going to move on from there it's a carburetor here carburetor one here it is torn down I found uh just a little bit of chunks and this tube here which is the main tube for what would be high speed and then this little tube here goes up to some low speed Jets on the top this is the cover for that just goes right on the top this is the float wasn't really sticky or anything it goes right here so I didn't find anything it would lead me to believe that this is an issue heard dirt was an issue in this corporator I did clean it up and I shined my light through all the different holes so I could verify that I could verify that they're clear see those little holes there and they're with me you can see that little hole there has light coming through it and is clear so um and then this needle here if you shine light on this side you'll be able to see through into there I'm not sure if you're so there you go you can see this is for idle I believe the idle adjustment so I was able to basically go through here one by one except for this and I filled this up with alcohol and blew through it and you know no no restriction nothing that would cause an alarm in my mind by any means so I don't think this is an issue I'm going to put it back together move on to cover 2 2 & 3 if I don't find anything it looks you know suspect then I'm we want there's also jet right there I it did have a did have a small piece of junk in it like I said that nothing that would make me think it was not going to run right okay so i'ma put this back together if I find anything with these on let you know more quick tests you can do before you put it back together is lift up the float make sure it drops see how that needles moving inside of the float seat if it sticks it won't drop back down now if if it were to stick right now it probably wouldn't do it anyways because the float weighs so much and there's no fluid on the other side but as long as the float is dropping down and you could see load is dropping down needles dropping down it should be okay because it is held on there by a piece of wire what not spring spring doodad I don't know it hooks the needle to the float should be good to go so it's dropping down gravity should pull it down one way or another so moving on I am into carburetor - and I don't know if you could see this that down there is not gasoline that's water cause for concern there's water in here so that could have been why it was running so horrible so I'm gonna put some some dry gas or some you know some water remover in the fuel going into this here after I clean this out now that I know got some water in there from somewhere you know I ran this thing dry before the end of the year I ran and dried just I don't even know why I never do that with anything else but I did it with this and I've done it the last two years and now I'm having issues maybe I just won't do that anymore I'll just leave it hooked up but first serious thing that I have found is that water I'm going to continue on and see if I find anything else with this carburetor right now that's all I know is my problem hopefully this will be a tip for you if you can't get the carburetor bowl off easy don't try to don't try to pry it or anything just that long on one side this will be easier camera side to side it helps the it helps affirm not breaking the gasket going to videotape it's not going to work now it's open but alright and there is water in this one also see there's an inside and outside gasket on this inside gasket seems to be holding school more water so the lower to please had water in them that could've very well I mean I don't know how much blood yeah it ran really really horrible so hopefully that was it okay so to wrap this video up um I don't think the issue with the pontoon boat the mercury 50 horsepower engine is the carburetors although they did have some water in them I believe that there's another issue and I'm actually into another issue with it right now that's why there's going to be multiple forces so if you don't find an issue with your carburetors like I kind of didn't watch my next video it will be part two and it is talking about it's dealing with the fuel lines I basically started pumping fuel out of the out of the tank it's a built in tank so I can't just take it out and drain it but sort of pump a few odd attack and it's full of
