history of many policemen and deputy sheriffs and witnesses the most comprehensive to date today so enjoy the video and thank you very much Oh Jay Edgar the more I know Bob secrets lies we will never told it didn't only get better you'll not worry and it just showered everything in the car behind you we hope some decent engine like up later this must have been a friend evil bullet must have been exploding it was a mountain traveling and course wholesaler got huge mustard powder uh-huh casing Sam who and the traveler enormous rate of speed but that first shot sound like fired yeah everybody's sake that everybody use that word all witnesses said that everybody everybody police officers already witnesses everybody said that I'm in fired up about five times and I'll everyone up sounds like a barker me until I get out there on the range and I start fired that's much sharpen yeah the other question now I'm interested in maybe we would take these in front of marks camera the other one I've got a copy of the Dallas Times Herald for that afternoon yes I think the second edition that I believe is on the streets about 3:30 and on page 19 on the left-hand side it's about that big and that your account with your name on it your account of what happened but writing where you were what you saw what you heard what you did and everything I've always wondered how on earth did that get in the paper so quickly how did they make to interview you so quickly after the event I tell you what they they possibly I don't know I don't remember thank you a cold they so not had Dallas Times Herald or Dallas Morning News this was the afternoon newspaper one that came out in the off Florida damn no sound her yes I don't know no one a the interviewed we think they must have been very quick right after all those already captured mm-hmm we were we were posted every work and you actually interviewed while you're on duty yeah so I'm a - I asked a question please - stationer she they've got they've got this the hit on this thing is something like what I saw Julie essentially boy police officer Bobby harvest you actually got your name well you know what they really they get these statements they write them down in there man like together both senator they probably run back and just do a story they were hot for anything no I know how it was a biggest story they're ever gonna cover wasn't they what what he's saying is they pride just didn't single him aside who and stayed tell me what's going on like that they probably just caught him in a Holman here and there but no such case just one more question in that account you mentioned or you know your alleged to have mentioned that you saw the rifle and you said it appeared to you to be a Mauser and you said it was the sort of rifle you go deer hunting with I've never seen those words are attributed to you anywhere else not in the Warren Commission or happy Davis or anything else but just in that news story can you look like a Mauser the sort of rifle you got deer hunting with you know as a police officer yourself and the story that is told from person to person to person when he gets back we know this was the first story that's why I put credence on this the first information is the best and the first in your first impression to me appears to be it was a Mauser no you know the confusion is about what sort of gun I did I did not say it was a Mauser that's what I did say that that's all I wanted I never said that's all the good right cuz awful where on earth did he see the guy you know building did you know we couldn't bandit yeah I'm Aryan beggars want him with his sign oh yeah and he passed out or coming down I saw and he had a drop point and but he had no right doesn't matter so he's alright yeah yeah so if they go yeah so why was you you know how would you know he didn't come down with a gun that's what Harkness yeah yeah I don't know where this reporter got this this idea that that I said it why good it was or yeah you name it a mouth when I get home I'm going on flying home tomorrow well I'll send you a copy of this thing it's an interesting one but you know they were grabbing for anything yeah this thing without so quickly this was out on the streets at half-past three so I mean this is they've gotta make the statist it's so quick we'll rush the papers out there oh sure in two or three statements and run back and I've also heard that they would bet those papers will come off those presses strain the street and they were being sold for $10 tell me that you've got that use it through the clock in the afternoon and it happened that morning the assassination is 12:30 this is in newspapers on the street at 3:30 with that story and yeah it was so pretty amazing unless they they caught you on the street or you you may have you know you may have been going back possibly do 10 o'clock on the street we worked over and on yeah we were straight and got our clothes on went straight home what to be it got up go straight back to yeah because we had a little transfer and you know what and this is a real fun and I'll tell it to you good but they tried to get homes I tried to get all removed but four o'clock in the morning a much more sensible wouldn't lavelies and that was ingested you know so much pressure on the chief hmm move him were you know they had one television station that's gonna do it all for all the television stations right Wi-Fi yeah he was it little one in and hmm when idea of Ruby time to get down into the basement and everybody dear Ruby except this one reserved offered we always went to his place is always water smooth have a coat in its own house and he wouldn't he wouldn't over say it alcohol's little drink it he would drink hopefully like like always finish this place he liked people to talk about he liked to be the center of attention denied it yeah and he thought a big hero by shooting it was guilty yes so shelf of a girl caught a dancer called Kathy K that's all one of those strippers will Kathy K I'm sorry a stripper called Kathy K did okay no I'm over candy bar can be K was British I never knew she was not traced her that's one of the reasons I went to kind of corny last week to try and give you her but she doesn't want to be interviewed by anybody she wants to stay out of it completely out of it and I couldn't even get to see it she knew that Mary and Harry Olson is that one of the coca-cola holes area hmm okay everybody hold candy about eye candy bar Lord hope you didn't look her abhi oh no no no I don't know if she's still alive away she is knows when did a Billy Martin died you know I think million more than that about five years ago yes shame Wow I didn't find that out on you you know the guy the Train mule motor rather on the other side Jackson Pertino no change no change the yeah and the obtaining with one of the finest officers I guess you'll ever meet new business fair old people and he just carried yourself as a police officer you know and when he I guess he carried it home with him because he died of a heart attack hmm yeah yeah and I don't I don't carry enough home with me that's all I leave you that's not good because I've got one question I'd like to ask on the audiotape of the motorcycle did you ever hear the audio tape yeah somebody had three liters radio was stoked one minute well I was going to ask if someone said that different officers can tell the sound of sickles and the audio tape has a different engine McClain's could you tell the listening to the audio tape which type of sickle wanna see no I already can't they're all family like well some of them said that they can tell them well say my yeah I thought maybe it was a different type like a to seller no it was a little - it was a two-cylinder Harley but but we're done McClane was not too far behind you I don't think your self I didn't bring that picture with me but there's a picture and I think when you jumped off your cycle of course pjmartin had already gone but I think McLain came up with yeah I think I don't know I'm just still on used to nothing I mean motorcade what they mean oh I stopped a made of them and you know what a picture showed I showed the motorcycle followed over here but it wasn't man right it may have been hey good I don't know yeah I've got a bit of a good butt but then when you of course the bad part was you were hit with it yeah I was out that ran up to you I was instantaneous all right over hid behind the latch standard it was my hot cast-iron yeah about that was a big kingdom come yeah but how good he was when Rapala finished he went all the way bridge Bobby went under the overpass didn't you yeah I tried to find out whether or the wrath would try to see with the raveloe that's where that raffling and that paper is wrong cuz I didn't see anything now right and then I got all the motorcycle right really rich and all I could see was people running and and I guess some women were stumbling and falling no they was thought the council I came back around and and run up the any better word to describe that Bank yeah I should call it a grassy no hmm they picked up yeah that started you might have started the whole thing I did and did that blind I mean when that blood hitch could you still see out of your visor yeah but it was instantaneous wine hmm they got sunglasses me yeah that's what I'm the features you see where they got the Mouser thing was was this Dallas deputy constable watch saw the Riesling Weitzman up there he was a gun expert and when he filled out an affidavit he wrote it it was a 7.65 Mauser and had a black sling on it or whatever and people jumped on that because he was a gun expert I didn't tell her that question did you make step they mixed up a lot of young because they were a desperate for story hmm yeah they were desperate yeah well I'll take you up to desperate for the truth and the truth was awful indeed it the color got hand print on print everything the bullets match but it the first bullet went through him into the seat hit call me if you went through the seat you went through the seat it went to the seat it must have done that if it's going through Kennedy's back and come out there than going to Kearney but he didn't hit anything uh I didn't hate bold or anything right battle you know a gun nobody gonna hit you yeah he doesn't hit anything gonna straight through ya get a little straight through you right especially a full jacketed yeah yeah yes or jacketed well I went through the seat seats nothing that Thompson but when he hit his bone that deflected it into his thigh miss Carter said there's three shots but there wasn't three shot of shooting there was not three shots that was only two I want to heard - that's it yeah there was a lot of people said - well a lot of people said three and three it's a nine-member and there was there's conspiracy and all this kind of junk I don't know anything about conspiracy all I know is what I know you know the facts the facts well there's two shots and one Dame in the back one him in a head and one hit him in the head just bust your head wide open that's it well they started all that because you know the pictures showing her by running up the knoll and that's where the attention was that's you know I thought well see what happen was this policeman Joe Marshall Smith ran up there and pulled his gun on a man and he said I'm with the Secret Service and they this now the Secret Service might have been just covering themselves but they said there was nobody back there on the ground well the Secret Service this is not to be shown publicly that that guys slow down maybe his all of us will slow down where the risk the gas this is clearly the driver of the presidential and I say yeah presidential limousine slow down almost just on that matter fact ma'am I had before that took a break yeah he was afraid I was afraid he was riding into the yeah I'm Jackie Kennedy she was given out of there she was on the back end in the Secret Service blocked away she had to help him in and he threw his cellphone president and then he took off yeah but if he if he hadn't I don't think if he had slowed down that that would have had another shot what do you think he slows down that What did he say he thought he was right is all the Secret Service people were in the back car they almost came up and hit it Austin that was so close well they come up hit me wide my saddle really yes now in one of the film's it looks like that much more helmet there were so many people yeah there that they had to kind of go ahead to let the car by but see we're supposed to be beside a car yeah people I did hit mom mm-hmm left a handlebar normal on the crowds only yeah so I fell back to her or the prejudice of car and Secret Service car was they would not let you in between them no no no no no they bump me and let me know for right right then that you don't get a man caught those cars so I had to do the best I could and I kept on slapping people trying to get him up or well they was trying to touch the car that you know he was riding in but and what really may hurt he made Secret Service real nervous was now on Cedar Springs when we stopped he got any more chuckles ranch and that's right yeah yeah he did that twice didn't if that's the way he was he just threw caution to the wind I don't remember what his twice or just once but I remember once they were real yeah yeah yeah he's almost had a heart attack but trying to get in that crowd and the Secret Service tried to stay with him in the crowd we just almost impossible so he he didn't fare too well though Jackie stayed in the car believe me she didn't get out in it so when they stopped he went into the crowd she stayed in the car yeah oh I didn't know that I thought she went with him uh-huh she could sure got trouble well something I didn't know until a little while ago this doctor went on TV and he said that when she got to the hospital she was doing this and nudging him and he had a piece of skull on her in US and in shy has a piece of skull on his mind yep nobody Brewer said bump you got someone you know and he did like that and it was a piece of his brain was piece of bone in there I'll be doggone it's your senior said you got stuck playing oh yeah and I looked at my motorcycle and all that kinda stuff all over it the UPI report combined he's the more we're going over to the sheriff Austin and he says he stopped me said you know motorcade I said yes he said I'll give you 70 now about a fee for your helmet right now you gotta be kidding no I said blowing with the city oh I would have said no you said give me 20 I just said yeah 20 any choice y'all say beam Zelda quite a lot back then but I don't know what a guess some even if it meant been firing me they probably they could have come yeah that's right that wouldn't last you the rest of your lives yeah he gives murder 25 thousand a year for five years with nothing I can getting a lot of money mmm that's 25,000 up that was that I wouldn't want to been there and it's a tough time too much stuff going on you know well it was it was chaos for the first 30 minutes it was a chaos too much power no one can take away [Laughter] please friends read books about certain things and you can talk to them in person the things were written are just touch and so I pretty much try to write myself getting first-hand information used to work [Music] we're fault as false they were made those cartoons made are these these things you know it's like anything that happens today if a guy goes out here and [ __ ] somebody your relevant of his reason to do it he there's always a conspiracy the devil made into it or his mother may know there's somebody else bhai he just couldn't do it but the same thing if you read deep into Oswald or any of these other ones I think you'll find the same thing that's my happy to be a scapegoat for a number of politico's government [Music] [Applause] [Music] but there is inspired and the fact that matter is I was a courier and I was a an in-between person and all the information that they claims that I tried to look dad I carried every day I handled early down who is the one that carried it down to and I was the one that secured it in their sakes so I had more access than a hand and yet you know it was all kind of right he was saying it was the politicos took the job on earth Hollingworth the time he does include this not ecologist we're in that time of my estimation with them both hippies right there were security breaches made by them and of course this is led their way of backing things up I saw a lot happen and I know a lot that happened in it's not a matter of day there was anything wrong it was something buddy put somebody on well that's why the papers passed everyone okay I just have no interested in because I think the whole thing was a sham it was a fallacy I know what happened I passed my polygraph test and I took a beating well they released me yes because it was a political thing if they would have left me earlier than somebody would've raised hell about it and that was their way of getting at him nothing I'm talk I took a fall I didn't expose nothing I don't intend to expose us could it this all start today it just you know they say somebody only left a safe open or something to me we'll just what it really was it had to be a part of it [Music] [Music] it would be like you into your bathroom okay and being assigned to your bathroom for life and then telling you well you and too much power know you're with former deputy sheriff al Maddox and director director and you started with the Sheriff's Department and went at one year February of 1963 February 1963 power to that of state their control board out of Austin I also came to Dallas and when I met bill Decker I was absolutely fascinated with the men and I quit a fantastic job in joining the Sheriff's Department and you retired in what year from the Sheriff's Department 1978 was my last year and I had five years added on to my time because I was in the Navy 11 years before that I had 13 active in the Sheriff's Office and then I had the other five I had 18 total years in the Sheriff's Office State Liquor Control Board out of Austin and then I was Chief of Police at single bill plus our city manager at Segovia Texas and you I ran for sheriff also yes yes sure did and you almost you just well I've gotten to run off with Clarence Jones in 1976 I guess it was yeah come real close that time and there were some shuffling of the court and the in the election boxes and then the Clank Jones beat me I think by 300 votes which 800 folks disappeared out of us out of a box in South Dallas and this is a picture of you taken in the 60s early 60s uh-huh not probably early 1963 that was you in uniform and there's also a picture of you in the book investigation of a homicide - yeah I first saw a picture again that's the first time I ever saw it and of course we had been talking in 1991 and then in 1992 after we had spoken and you told me that you had booked Jack Ruby on the day Ruby shot Oswald and I believe is probably the next day after he shot Oswald they probably believe the next day and the best I can remember it was on a Sunday and and then as we talked on the phone you told me that that of course you had known Jack Kirby prior to that yes I've known as when I was a agent for the state layer control board at that time and that as Jack Ruby was dying or getting sick believe it was 1967 or 69 he reached up and put a little note in your hand it mm-hmm he sure did she shared you know he and Melvin Bella I believe we're together at the time and he was still he was a boy I'm a story he could walk then he was still in pretty good shape but he was sweating an awful lot in his handler was wet where he had this self palm in your hand and when he shook hands with me I knew he wanted me to read a note and sure enough it was a letter the tack wrote saying it was a conspiracy and his motive was to silence I motive was the silent solid wall and he stated my dresser drawer for about 25 years and one day I got it out and ready well hey this is a historical value and Anthony Pugliese he owns the letter now in Boca Raton Florida he's the man also owns the gun that Jack Ruby used to kill Oswald and I think he paid two hundred and twenty thousand just for that 38 snubnose that's right and he they even had handwriting experts to authenticate that for being Jack Ruby's handwriting because you had drawings at Ruby an autograph oh yes someone in Fox 33 and you know in Hollywood paid some lady and we have on file whatever her name is in Hollywood and so $500 just to authenticate that one letter and I remember at the time the movie star that was with us that day what was his name Robert Connery Robert Conrad yes was quite fascinated with this and he's a fantastic person himself I promise he's a real great guy and then we did an original interview back in 92 at the old JFK assassination center yes where you put that note on long yeah well the public could see it kids were there all right great night a good night and Malcolm Chalmers with us right he introduced me to you in a roundabout way and we all had dinner and then we went to the museum and put this note on alone and that was the first time the public got to see all that yes uh-huh that was four years ago that was a great night I also had the chain that was on Jack Ruby's foot when he died without a seven or eight foot chain and Anthony Pugliese he now owns that chain right and the original mug shot the original mug shot and two pictures diagrams that Jack Ruby did for me but Lisa has six items that I had that belonged to Jack Ruby and in this of course is a laser copy of the note that Jack Ruby gave you yes this is always it I can identify quicker by this little doodle the Jack Ruby made on the top right here and that's it now on the back he said my motive was to silence Oswald yeah that was a pretty interesting thing that was they held on to that note for 29 years yes I'll never forget that that was a great moment I tell what we sure appreciate that very much well takes a lot of integrity and you and Larry were the most honest historians that that's why I'm talking to you now and somewhere I don't know where they are but they're somewhere in my house there's a hundred letters that people wrote Jack Ruby and I've misplaced them they're in storage there somewhere someday those letters are real valuable now and cannot locate it but I am looking for them they're here somewhere well Betsy's lawyer Patsy Pascal's lawyer Fred Bruner has the letter at home from Jack Ruby from the jail saying please come represent me oh yeah he's he's Fred brothers a heck of an attorney you are the [ __ ] you remembered you well so for a period of time after the assassination your partner was Eddie buddy Walters correct yeah and this is a picture of him from that day where can hold that up a partner this is buddy this is buddy he's one heck of a detective but he was a fine detective and that's a very unique person well he symbolized bill Dekker and wrestling good lucky but act like him even had the curves in his ears look like it yes he was very much he looked an awful lot like bill decorating also you had was nice enough to put me in touch with with buddy's Widow Dorothy mm-hmm and and and then at a later interview you had looked at the the pictures here of the the what I call the boys over by the manhole cover and you had said that the the man in the suit there was an FBI agent yes I know he was never bi agent and for some reason I cannot tell you who he was he very low key and he was there shortly before the assassination and I don't I don't know when he left for sure now Dorothy told me and wrote me in a letter saying brought me a letter saying that that buddy had came home and told her about finding a bullet there is is that the information you got yeah I believe that he showed I believe things were insignificant at that time to me and I believe he showed me the bullet and then one day he said something about it I gave this bullet to Duke to take the spoon with it so that's the last I heard of the bullet Duke was his son called another fact he's only Sonny and uh two beautiful daughters yeah I I really appreciate you introducing me and let me speak to Dorothy because she also had a lot of information I know she spoke very highly of you you had a very close encounter with your life as in the line of duty where several time one time in particular with James Walter cherry keel buddy and snapped the pistol in my face and of course I was I was hit three times and I was never my wife may never asked never never asked me to get out of long for as many times as I come home with my clothes torn off and my head knocked out of shape even that particular time they come to the hospital because they thought I was dead she never asked me you get out of law enforcement and she should have she should have insisted on it and I spent quite a long time long because of yeah yeah often only and they finally caught these people in do they call him that day caught him that day they called him that day they sure did put him in jail yeah they put him in - and then he tried to sue the try to sue the county that was a course I was that's one of the first cases that I had ever heard of - where the convict that had murdered a police officer and tried to murder another one which was me if they allowed us they tried he tried to sue us in the courts accepted of course that's every day thing now well people that don't understand it haven't looked at the crime-scene pictures and when you do that you know what a violent thing it was and that you were lucky to you you were lucky very lucky man woman that woman her name is tuwana Blankenship she's dead she's dead but he's dead I'm the only one that was in that fight - still here today that's right so that sense a blessing right there yeah I'm here for a purpose I don't know what yet maybe it's working at Tom Thumb who knows well it's too bad the people that made that movie with James Earl Jones didn't know him from me I didn't know what was going on James Earl Jones is a flake from the word go he's one of those people that's a flake truth means nothing to make sure the college and asked you about that I could probably sue them but on their I've never seen anyone I've been sued a bunch but I've never had never sued anybody I'll never forget when that show came out it was two weeks before I finally was gonna get the chance to meet you and that just about that just about ended the heads it was very hairy there look at that picture when I was 38 my hair was still real dark no gray and in that movie they had me with gray hair and buddy look at long-haired goo he hated long-haired with ear rings and of course they had him looking that way but this is something James Earl Jones as far as I'm concerned he's sick in the head and so then all his relatives and you you even I don't remember the exact circumstances but you you and buddy probably in 67 or 68 brought somebody in for Jim Garrison on extradition papers yes I'm at pictures in a book yeah and you know I can't tell you anything about that right there I am in the picture I don't remember either exactly what if it says unidentified officer but anyone that knew me yeah or knows me can tell they that that's me there was that guy that we brought in all right they wanted buddy you know to come to New Orleans and testify in the Kennedy case and he was killed shortly before this and he never he never did get down there I don't think he's going in it probably not I know Roger Craig did but they didn't get buddy down there no no they did not knew Roger quite well yeah well mr. Mannix we sure appreciate the time and everything you know you know I mean how I feel about you well you and Larry the only ones that ever got into my living room to talk to me and uh well I don't think we don't appreciate it I hope maybe historic is speaking it when all of this comes down they all know exactly what happened it's gonna be tough it's gonna be questionable it's time what was that to happen yeah well that's see that's a great thing about coming down and getting to meet people like yourself firsthand is you don't write about what you think happened you come to and talk to the people that were there let them figure it out yes right but I don't know I can't say I do know all I know is what I saw and what I think we sure appreciate and thank you very much for your time thank you fresh and mark appreciates
