What active users are saying — fax guy initials
Various initials
[Music] hello my most amazing artists and welcome back to art class so for your next project that you'll have two weeks to work on we are going to do some zentangles now these might look familiar you've probably heard of them before you may have even done them before but we're going to put a little bit of a twist on this project by also incorporating positive and negative space positive space in a piece of artwork or in a photograph is the main subject or the main thing that you're looking at in a picture a negative space is the background or you know the rest of the area of the picture so in the case of our project we are going to be using one of your initials it's up to you either your first initial or your last initial for example my initials would be k w because my first name starts with k and well actually it might not be a w it's up to me i kind of have a choice because since i got married i could do a c if i wanted to but um which i think i'm going to do because i've never gotten to use a c so my initials now are k c so i'm going to choose i'm going to use c but you can use either your first or your last initial so that's either the first letter of your first name or the first letter of your last name your choice you have two letters to pick from my initials are kc i'm going to use the c and you're going to be making a block letter c or a block a block letter initial however you want you can make a block letter you can make a bubble letter um you could go on if you want to what might be a good idea is go on microsoft word and play around with the fonts and find a cool letter that you like i'm going to kind of just make one up um so i have my piece of paper here i'm holding it vertically so up and down and i'm going to create my letter first and then the background of our letter or the area all around it and behind it is going to be filled with zentangle so we'll talk about that in a second so to make my letter c i'm going to like add some cool stuff to it so [Music] okay so i've created my initial of choice which i've decided to go with the first letter of my new last name which happens to be a c so i made a c and now i'm going to start filling in the background of my letter c with zentangles zentangles are a lot of very repetitive patterns um these are some examples i could not find my zentangles from the spring but i did find these zentangle teacups that i used to do uh with fifth grade when we had art in person so just look at the designs and it's a lot of very repetitive patterns you're going to split your background up into different sections and it's all in black and white your best bet is to use a sharpie although if all you have is a black marker that is fine too you can use any kind of black marker but ideally what is best is if you have regular sharpies and the ultra fine sharpies which are the super super skinny ones now you're just creating and playing with line making different patterns and stuff you're not creating scribbles you're creating like you know actual shapes and designs and patterns that you can see i'm going to share with you some resources for different ways to create this is one that's not done yet but you can see the different patterns i'm going to share with you some different resources and ideas but you can always google zentangles and you will see ideas for tons and tons of different types of patterns i'm going to go back to using my sharpie marker here and i'm actually going to split my background up into different sections to help me with my zentangle patterns so within all of these different shapes that i'm creating here are where i'm going to draw my different zentangle patterns and some of them i'm going to cut apart just because sometimes it's easier to work in small sections and for example if i were to use my really really thick sharpie here to create a zentangle pattern maybe i might start with this guy up here in the corner and i might split it into different stripes and then maybe within those stripes i create pattern of different lines um and then maybe i might add to my pattern by making like you know three dots and like every other you know things like that so i've kind of created this really cool pattern i can do patterns with swirls all different kinds of things as you can see all right do swirls wavy lines you know like little eyeball things stripes and this is where it could be good to have different size markers to be you can do like thick lines and thin lines to help you make different patterns zigzags stripes all kinds of things so you are going to completely fill in the background behind your letter i am going to go ahead and finish doing that now and then i will come back and show you what my finished product looks like so as you guys can see i finished my zentangles i just decided to do it all with my thick sharpie because my thin ones were a little bit dry but that's okay so my positive space is the initial that i chose which is the letter c and i have kept that empty blank and white just like my paper and i have filled my background with various different patterns you can see i played around with zigzag lines circles swirls all sorts of different things so it is completely up to you uh you do have to do them in black and white so like i said ideally with a sharpie or some sort of black marker play around with thin lines versus thick lines and see what works for you and see what you come up with i'm going to share a couple different resources with you for different types of zentangle patterns otherwise honestly all you have to do is google zentangles and there will be tons of different patterns that you can come up with if you're kind of in a tough spot these are really great to work on i'm giving you two weeks to work on them but these are really good for filling time if you're feeling a little bored but you still want to get something done and these can also be extremely relaxing and fun to do so make sure when you're doing done doing your zentangles take a picture and send it to me so i can give you a greed for your art class and i can't wait to see your zentangle um initials with your positive and negative space and i will see you guys again next time for art class bye [Music]
