I couldn't conduct my business without contracts and this makes the hassle of downloading, printing, scanning, and reuploading docs virtually seamless. I don't have to worry about whether or not my clients have printers or scanners and I don't have to pay the ridiculous drop box fees. Sign now is amazing!!

Fax signed individual

hey this is Kendra with signing agent basics and in this video I'm gonna tell you what kind of scanner you will need as a signing agent one of the tasks that you may be required to perform as a signing agent is to send copies of some or all of the signed documents in a package back to the contracting company prior to dropping that package at FedEx or UPS back in the good old days this was accomplished by using a facsimile machine to fax a copy of the documents back to the contracting company thus the term fax fax was created to describe this task well nowadays hardly anyone uses a fax machine it is much more likely that you will have to scan the documents into PDF format and either email or upload the PDF to the contracting company this is called scan backs today the terms fax fax and scan fax are used interchangeably however no matter which term is used the contracting company usually wants the documents scanned back so obviously because of this another important tool that you will need as a signing agent is a scanner but new signing agents may experience a lot of confusion about what kind of scanner they should buy I mean why don't somebody just tell you which scanner you need which scanner is the best well the problem is that a lot of it boils down to usage personal preference and the budget of the signing agent at the time so while I can't tell you what the best scanner to buy is I can't go over some different types of scanners and let you know what features they have so that you can make an informed decision and buy the best scanner for you but before I tell you my thoughts about the subject I want to know what you think new signing agents are you currently in the market for a scanner have you been confused by all of the options veteran signing agents what scanner features do you think are the most important go down into the comments section right now and let me know no matter what go ahead and give this video a thumbs up and make sure that you stick around to the to this video to find out which scanner I personally purchased and use so first I'm going to talk about the three main types of scanners scanner applications mobile or portable scanners and desktop scanners scanner applications are apps that you can download to your cell phone that allow you to use your phone's camera to take photos of documents turn those photos into PDF format that you can then use to send the required scan backs to the contracting company there are a few benefits to scanner applications first more than likely you won't have to purchase any new hardware most people especially citing agents already have cell phones that are capable of running most scanner applications another benefit is that scanner applications are either free or very low cost which is helpful if you are on a budget however while scanner applications are great for scanning back a few pages they are very time consuming if you try to use one to scan back a full loan package which could be 150 pages or more you would literally have to take a photo of each individual page I personally only use a scanner application for scan backs of less than ten pages the next type of scanner is a mobile or portable scanner in this video I'm just going to call them mobile scanners mobile scanners are scanning machines that are small enough to be brought along with a signing agent to the actual signing location the benefits of mobile scanners is that they are usually less expensive than desktop scanners and since you are able to bring the scanner with you to a signing you save time because you don't have to drive back to your home office to complete and send scanned backs and they are usually less expensive than a full-size desktop scanner however some of the downsides of a mobile scanner is that they are more expensive than a scanning application and they usually scan at a slower speed than desktop scanners also because you will be constantly moving it around you run a higher risk of dropping and damaging your mobile scanner because of this I highly recommend purchasing a case for your scanner which is an additional cost the last type of scanner is a desktop scanner desktop document scanners include sheetfed scanners and flatbed scanners and they are generally larger in size than mobile scanners sheetfed scanners are equipped with a sheet feeder that pulls in documents to be scanned sequentially while flatbed scanners are designed with a glass plate and a cover as a sighting agent you will definitely want a sheet fed scanner the benefits of a desktop sheetfed scanner is that it usually scans faster than mobile scanners and since you are not physically moving the scanner around from place to place it is less likely that you will drop and damage a desktop scanner however desktop scanners are generally the most expensive option and since you are not able to take the scanner with you to assigning you don't have to return to your home office to complete any scan back requirements since most of you watching this video are mobile loan signing agents I'm only going to talk about scanner applications and mobile scanners in this video but let me know down in the comments section if you want me to do a video about desktop scanners in the future now the first two things that you'll need to think about when you are selecting the type of scanner you want is how you are going to use the scanner and your budget and as you're citing agent business grows you may find that you will want to have at least two different types of scanners if not all three so let's start off by talking about scanner applications now again this is the least expensive option and I personally recommend having a scanner application on your cell phone even if you also have a mobile scanner or a desktop scanner even though I personally have a mobile scanner if I only have to scan back a few pages it is often quicker and easier to just use the scanning application on my cell phone than to pull out and set up my mobile scanner now before you purchase and download a scanner application you may want to see if your cell phone already has this capability iPhones have a built-in PDF document scanner in the i/os notes application that already comes with your iPhone and I've got a link down in the description box that gives you a tutorial on how to use that built-in function and if you're an Android user like me and don't worry I have got you covered too most Android phones come with Google Drive already installed if not it's free to download that app from the Play Store and in the Google Drive app there is also a built-in PDF document scanner and I've got a link in the description box that gives you a tutorial on how to use that built-in function as well and both of these options already have the basic functions that you need to handle the majority of the scan back requests that you'll receive there are also free third-party scanner applications out there for both iPhone and Android users just do a quick search for scanners in your App Store and plenty of options will come up but you will need to make sure that whatever scanner application you use it does not put a watermark anywhere on the documents many free third-party scanner apps will do this and this will often cause your scanned documents to be rejected by the contracting company my personal favorite third-party scanning app is cam scanner they have an app for both Android and iPhone it has a four point eight rating in the iPhone app store at a 4.7 rating in the Google Play Store so a lot of users like this app the free version does contain a watermark so you will need to purchase a license to remove that however I believe that the price for that license is a one-time cost of less than $5 camScanner take some very clear scans and it does have a lot of other functions and options to make your scans look even better and if you upgrade to the premium level you can also password protect the PDF which is important and keeping signers information safe and secure if you aren't interested in using cam scanner I've got links for downloading and using that app down in the description box alright enough about scanner applications let's talk about mobile scanners other than price there are three main things that you need to consider when you are comparing and purchasing a mobile scanner the first is how many sheets per minute can you scan obviously the more sheets per minute the faster your scanning will be completed most mobile scanners will scan 20 to 25 sheets per minute the second thing you want to look at is does the scanner have direct wireless capability this means that the scanner can scan documents directly to your laptop cell phone or other mobile device without the use of a cable or other Wi-Fi connectivity and the last thing you'll want to look at is whether or not the scanner has to be plugged into a power source to run or does it have its own built-in battery power supply no matter what mobile scanner you choose I suggest also purchasing a carrying case to protect your scanner from drops and bumps and an extended warranty again your mobile scanner will be subject to more wear and tear than a desktop scanner so a warranty is a smart purchase to protect your investment so with those things in mind I'm going to tell you about three different mobile scanners the first and least expensive mobile scanner is the a vision paper air 215 l and at the time of the filming of this video the price for this scanner is 120 999 this scanner scans 15 to 20 pages per minute depending on which resolution you select which is below average to average for a mobile scanner this scanner does not have its own internal battery so you will have to plug the included AC power adapter into a wall outlet or another power source unless the paper air 215 l scanner also does not have regular wireless capability or direct wireless capability which means that you cannot connect to the scanner wirelessly even using regular Wi-Fi connectivity you will have to bring your laptop with you and connect the scanner to your laptop using the included USB cable a pro commits a carrying case for the scanner and at the time of the filming of this video that case is 1699 and a 3-year protection plan from assure and for the scanner is $21.99 now this protection plan covers you against power surges mechanical and electrical failures and wear and tear but it does not protect you against drops loss or theft which is why the carrying case is so important if you get the scanner the carrying case and the warranty the total price before attacks would be 168 97 which is less than the cost for just the scanner for the other two scanners that we're going to take a look at so if you are on a tight budget this scanner is a great deal for you the next scanner I'm gonna talk about is the Brother ABS 1700 W and at the time of the filming of this video the price for this scanner is 1 9999 this scanner scans 20 to 25 pages per minute depending on which resolution you select which is average for a mobile scanner this scanner does not have its own internal battery so you will have to plug the included AC power adapter into a wall outlet or another power source unless the brother 80s 1700 W scanner does have wireless capability and direct wireless capability which means that you can connect the scanner to your laptop cell phone or other device wirelessly with or without regular Wi-Fi connectivity you can also connect this brother scanner to your laptop using a USB cable however that cable does not come with this scanner so you will have to purchase one separately the same approach carrying case that I talked about earlier also works great for this scanner and again at the time of the filming of this video that case is 1699 the three-year protection plan from assure Ian for the scanner is $21.99 and again this protection plan covers you against power surges mechanical and electrical failures and wear and tear but it does not protect you against drops loss or theft if you get the scanner the carrying case and the warranty the total price before attacks would be 238 97 which is about $70 more than the a vision paper err scanner the last scanner I'm gonna talk about is the Epson es 300 W scanner and at the time of the filming of video the price for this scanner is 270 9.99 this scanner scans 20 to 25 pages per minute depending on rich resolution you select which is average for a mobile scanner now this scanner does have its own internal battery so you can run it using its own internal battery power you do not have to plug the included AC power adapter into a wall outlet or another power source to run this scanner for a lot of mobile signing agents who do the majority of their assignments outside of tidal offices at locations where they may or may not have access to electrical outlets then this feature is definitely needed the epson es 300 w scanner also does have wireless capability and direct wireless capability which means that you can connect the scanner to your laptop cell phone or other device wirelessly with or without regular Wi-Fi connectivity you can also connect this Epson scanner to your laptop using a USB cable and that cable does come with the scanner so you will not have to purchase one separately and last this Epson scanner is about half a pound lighter than both the a vision and brother scanners now a pro Canadian case for the Epson es 300 w scanner but it is a little more expensive and at the time of the filming of this video that case is twenty six ninety-nine and a three year protection plant from Assurant for this scanner is also a little more expensive at $33.99 and again this protection plan covers you against power surges mechanical and electrical failures and wear and tear but it does not protect you against drops loss or theft if you get the scanner the carrying case and the warranty the total price before attacks would be 340 97 which is about 172 dollars more than the a vision paper err scanner and 102 dollars more than the brother scanner but if you are ready to invest in a scanner that has all of the functionality that you need as a mobile loan sighting agent then this manner is the one for you okay so now I know you guys are wondering which scanner do I use well I personally use the brother yes 1700 W I do a lot of direct business and title company offices which means that I don't have to do a lot of scan backs and what I do have skin backs I generally have access to an electrical outlet to power the skin or so I can need a scanner that can run on battery power which is why I did not select the Epson scanner however I don't like carrying my laptop with me if I don't need to and I really like being able to scan wirelessly from the scanner directly to my cell phone which is why I did not select the a vision paper err scanner do you guys want me to make a tutorial video on how to set up and use the brother ATS 1700 W scanner if so let me know down in the comments so assigning agents was this video helpful do you have the information that you need to select the right scanner for your signing agent business if so go ahead and hit that thumbs up button right now also if you find my videos helpful and you want to know how I can help to train you to be a more productive and profitable signing agent go down into the description box for more information about my signing agent training program and my remote online notarization program or just click on the link right up here and if you are not already following me on instagram LinkedIn and Facebook make sure that you do that today links to all of my socials are also down in the description box no matter what make sure that you hit that like button hit the subscribe button and then hit the notification bell so that you don't miss any of my upcoming videos this is Kendra with signing agent Basix hoping that you have a productive and profitable day [Music]
