good morning everyone this is chad wilson uh for engi 2304 i want to talk this morning about conclusions now our textbook finkelstein's pocketbook of technical writing for engineers and scientists has the outline of feasibility and recommendation reports the recommendation report is on page 129 that's what you're following for your recommendation report and i want to just look at it quickly we've talked about the introduction ad nauseam almost the purpose problem in scope and then you have your discussion section which has criteria one whatever it is and then explanation data interpretation criteria two explanation data interpretation and then it has conclusion and under conclusion it actually has three different sections first is the summary and then conclusions and then recommendation and the reason for that breakdown that division into three different sections is because they there may be a difference between your conclusions based on your data interpretation than what you actually recommend so here's how you do it a normal conclusion we've talked about with the imrd format the introduction uh methodology results discussion so introduction methodology results discussion imrd that typical format would have a conclusion that is just a summary that's all it is sometimes it will go into recommendations for further work that still needs to be done or sometimes it will go into implications but often it's just a summary here you do have a summary so the summary reviews the data and interpretations so what that means is just one sentence or two per criteria just to remind us of what the criteria were and which one was better based on those criteria so you'd review those and then you go in the conclusions and that's where you start waiting them so you'd say okay so the the comparing a and b the a option is better in terms of cost however we expect the price will go down within five years it will it should be cheaper at that point in which case it would be more favorable so you can weight the different things and you can even say the uh b product is more expensive in terms of cost but it is but it is uh better in terms of environmental sustainability or in terms of emissions therefore the cau it outweighs the cost okay so you can weight your criteria you do that in the conclusion conclusions section so the summary summarizes the data interpretation and then the conclusions second section weights them and describes which one's better and then in recommendation you would actually say whether you recommend to do this or not because you may come to the conclusion that hydrogen cars are better but in your recommendation you might want to say but they're not ready to be purchased yet in texas because we don't have hydrogen fueling stations here in texas so you you may actually wait one better and determine that it's better but then say i i still don't recommend it now the only thing is don't try not to in your conclusion to bring up anything you haven't brought up before so it should be something that's already been explained already been talked about so that's that's it for the conclusion so conclusion summary review the data and interpretations conclusions discuss them and say which one is better and you can weight them weight a criteria more or less and then recommendation actually say whether you would recommend it or not because you may say one thing is better and then actually not recommend it so that's it conclusions and i'm gonna be i'm gonna post at least one more video next week about uh citing your sources uh citing figures and tables that's it have a good weekend happy revising see you next week
