Fax initials attempt

this video is sponsored by brilliant hey hey marcus house with you here there is so much going on with starship development right now with test tank sn 7.2 pushed to its limits this week plenty going on with super heavy booster construction along with updates around that highly anticipated launch and high altitude flight test of starship sn9 big news with starship serial number 10 with that rolling out to the pad as well there was a record-breaking dedicated ride share mission with transporter one lifting off this past week and finally some news with boeing's style on a capsule and its second uncrewed test flight looks to be targeting the end of march we have so much to cover here in yet another incredible week of space news on monday we saw the first attempt of sn9's flight which i was streaming with tony bella the beach had been cleared by law enforcement in the morning and at 10 30 am speakers on the pad sounded saying that 30 minutes remain until hands off starship sn9 we had a lot of fun though talking all things starship but ultimately after several hours it was clear the launch had been scrubbed for the day mary along with the other locals therefore never ended up being evacuated meaning that they were no longer aiming to fly that day temporary flight restrictions were then removed and the road was reopened we were going to need to wait until the next attempt the next attempt for a flight was on thursday and we streamed while chatting to joe barnard sadly another scrub after many hours with a lot of confusion around faa approval next attempt on friday was scrubbed only an hour after we started interestingly the pad was cleared and evacuations made but that was as far as we got there as we live streamed with neopork joining in even though the lack of flight was a little disappointing we still had a blast chatting to you all thanks so much to everybody that joined us in the live streams watching liking subscribing and supporting me here that meant a huge amount especially with it being the very first dedicated live stream that i've done we aim to do more of this of course so i can't wait to chat to more of you as soon as possible along with all this of course tankzilla was moved to the pad in preparation to lift sn10 onto pad a once the prototype was rolled down to the launch site rgv aerial photography captured this photo here and next to pad a are two rows of wooden planks that we have often seen being used in the past for the crane to sit on when lifting a starship that is a good clue right there the new three millimeter test tank called sn 7.2 which was moved to the launch site a little over a week ago underwent its testing campaign this week after the sn9 scrub on monday tuesdays windows saw a series of tests where they filled and pressurized the tank to an unknown pressure sn 7.2 was then rapidly detanged at 1 30 pm local time with elon concluding that it passed the initial pressure test remember that the previous tanks have a four millimeter thickness in the steel rings this vessel dropped a quarter of that with this new three millimeter steel making this a much lighter setup if an entire starship can be built tested and flown with this thinner steel that will make a huge difference to the dry mass of the entire vehicle every single kilogram saved in the build of the starship body itself increases the destination payload by that exact same amount a very beautiful shot here from above by rgv aerial photography always so impressive just how he gets these shots each and every week thanks mauricio for all you're doing there all the patreon support for him there helps keep those flights going along with of course the subscriptions on his youtube channel just check out these shots as well of deimos the recently supported rig here this is predicted to become a future launch and landing platform for starship and super heavy to news at the build site sn 15's after dome was stacked on top of the skirt and also what is possibly sn16's middle liquid oxygen section was moved out of a tent with a plethora of heat shield studs on the side moreover while we were busy watching the tests at the launch site sn11's aero covers and forward flaps were installed on the side of the nose cone and was then rolled outside to the low bay ahead of stacking operations sn11's nose cone barrel section was then moved adjacent to the nose cone here this section has a collection of nine normal sized thermal protection system tiles attached as well as two additional smaller ones these two sections have apparently just been mated in the last 24 hours we just don't have a shot of that as we were publishing this video also the tank section for this same starship prototype has been sitting in the mid bay for quite a while and has finally received those two flap attachment jigs those jigs are used to align the hinges actuators and arrow covers and are removed before the actual aft flaps are attached furthermore sn10 received its second aft flap that completed the vessel and right after the roads opened back up again on friday the process began to roll this next amazing prototype to the launch pad here we see it rolling down the road as it takes its place on the second launch stand at the pad this is a first for spacex having multiple prototypes getting ready to fly remember with starship serial number nine we had no idea that two of the raptors had been mounted at all until a few sneaky images appeared after the fact sn10 we thought could have been fully wrapped fully raptorized wrapped it to the max as we saw however on the way to the launch pad there were no raptors installed on this vessel prior to the move all three of the raptors will need to come after a cryoproof test which was shared there by elon musk this week saw the scrapping of sn12s aft section officially meaning that this prototype along with sn13 and sn14 are all cancelled sn8 flight was extremely successful and achieved way more objectives than many of us thought possible due to that this first incredible high altitude flight test more than likely messed up a lot of the plans in the production line as spacex would have been expecting it to take three or four prototypes to accomplish what sn8 achieved after that amazing flight and with sn9 sn10 and 11 still in progress pulling a couple of prototypes out of the production line and advancing sn15 was possible this is the prototype that elon musk mentioned will have many major upgrades a four ring high liquid oxygen stack section was moved into the mid bay with stacking operations continuing with super heavy booster number one's prototype from a picture taken by nasa space flight brendan expertly diagnosed the booster build spotting that this beast is 16 rings tall it's made up of three four ring stacks and the forward dome which is also made up of four rings itself the common dome that sits between the liquid oxygen and liquid methane sections still hasn't been moved into the high bay so from this we can conclude that super heavy will now have the liquid oxygen tank on top of the booster since the current stack they have in the high bay is too big to be a methane tank now we know the rough methane to oxygen ratio makes the liquid oxygen tank much greater in volume so this is quite conclusive at this point now this may have been the plan for quite some time or it could be a more recent development it's hard to say i've held the assumption that the tanks would be ordered in the same way as starship which of course has the liquid oxygen on the bottom remember the huge length of the booster would mean a much longer downcomer and wasted mass if the tanks were reversed as the fuel drains out having liquid methane at the top would make the vessel a lot heavier further up the rocket ideally of course you want the mass to be lowered down as the booster returns for a landing no different to the reason why an arrow has most of its mass at the tip it makes perfect sense to have the larger tank on top there was also some more big news regarding super heavy booster number one with its aft dome being spotted by mary and jack from nasa space flight thanks to the entire team for such incredible insight into the facilities here there looks to be spots here for four raptors which correlates to what elon said during the mars society event last year saying that bn1 will fly with two to four raptors sn14 scrapped aft dome was used as a pathfinder for future super heavy prototypes that'll include the outer ring of 20 raptors that elon also mentioned in a tweet a while back there looks to be 20 bigger holes for the liquid oxygen feed lines and another smaller 20 for liquid methane surrounding the outer circumference of the dome there brendan created this render here of what this would look like on future super heavy prototypes and here is the latest diagram to show where we are at just awesome work there thank you to the entire community for helping us figure out where everything goes now i just thought it would be a good chance to talk about corey's incredible new starship renders showing the cutaway of the entire vessel including the fuel tanks here this just gives a great perspective of it all the thing i like most about this if you look closely is that the header tank looks to be transparent you can see the liquid oxygen header tank in the nose here feed right down to the raptor engines now corey first started 3d modelling in a program called wings 3d around 13 years or so ago and these days blender is his program of choice which he was first introduced to around a decade ago he did a lot of great render work over the years but much more recently he got into the magic of space flight i don't think it comes to any surprise that corey thinks what spacex is doing is super revolutionary part of why he does the renders is for himself and his own interest in the vessel such as the starship he's always said that if he can 3d model something he can understand the engineering behind it better and it's obvious as to why that is that exercise really gives great insight into the insane levels of innovation that's going into this rocket another big reason though is that through these amazing animations he can teach us all why space flight and starship are such a big deal he really enjoys the modeling texturing and lighting a lot but nothing compares to figuring out the camera placement and the motion during the course of the animation the camera is the audience's window into the animation he just loves trying out the best angle to get across the information he wants the audience to see all while making these shots look super cinematic his favorite animation is this one here and i've got to agree too this starship lunar return animation blew my mind when it came out and it still blows my mind right now this clip alone even changed the way that corey saw the real starship skydive landing remember this was released before sn8 first flight it hadn't hit him how slow it actually appears to fall as it skydives through the thick atmosphere until he saw the animation here based on spacex's released data he even had to double check the numbers to make sure he'd animated it correctly just fast forward to the actual flight and i mean it's pretty darn close right this render is just magic and thanks to corey for all you've done here with this i'm obviously a huge fan of the work here and if you are too make sure you're following him there on twitter and youtube in the description now at the end of last week's episode i briefly mentioned the pending spacex transporter 1 launch we ultimately saw a mission scrub on the 23rd due to a breach in launch criteria specifically the surface electricity field rule at 10 a.m on sunday the 24th of january we were back at cape canaveral space force station in florida for the first totally dedicated small satellite rideshare mission as well as the largest quantity of satellites deployed at a total of 143 just crazy staff there the two new fairing halves for this mission protected a mix of 133 government and commercial small satellites as well as the 10 recently fcc approved starling satellites destined for a first ever polar orbit we also saw confirmation earlier this week that this special batch of 10 internet satellites have got the lasers as the main recipient for service is intended here to be alaska with its understandable lack of ground relay stations in the polar region the lasers will be critical in this case for data relay connectivity a good testbed case here too as well considering that we just saw a confirmation that all starlink internet satellites launched from 2022 will have the laser feature as well so yes with ignition and liftoff we were treated to a nice tracking shot of the ascent as falcon 9 hugged the east coast of florida heading south quickly followed by the main engine cut off the stage separation and fairing separation this flight proven booster for this mission called b1058 had four previous missions which included crew dragons demo two standing by to receive the first stage booster was of course the autonomous drone ship of course i still love you this was its first catch for 2021 since undergoing refurbishment and it was also the 73rd successful recovery of a booster special thanks as always to greg scott for capturing this great shot of the boosters return to port complete with the worm still on it just awesome stuff if you don't follow greg i recommend you check out his excellent work the link there is also in the description there was no catch attempt for the fairings this time instead mischief and miss tree were on station to hoist them out of the ocean which saw both halves successfully recovered as we see here in order to achieve a successful payload orbit insertion it was necessary to carry out a second engine ring light lasting two seconds at this time we had another rare glimpse inside the fuel tank as well the release of all 133 satellites went off without a hitch in a perfectly synchronized series of deployments completing the mission of course was the 10 starling satellites as we see here drifting away to begin servicing remote communities in alaska just an awesome mission now i think one of the more beautiful moments in this mission was learning of the celestis memorial flight on board hundreds of family members were sending off their loved ones to space for one final journey back to the cosmos hitching a ride on this were the small capsules of human ashes arranged by celestis themselves thanks so much to everybody involved in making this incredible mission a success now we have a few updates to talk about with boeing's starliner which dropped this week which now looks like nasa and boeing are targeting at the end of march for the launch of starliner's repeated flight test we'll talk more about that in a moment but just before that a huge thank you today to our sponsor brilliant without the incredible support here there is just no way that we could spend the time that we do to put together this regular content for you the brand of course is a great fit as well because many of the course topics available from brilliant are exactly the kind of things that we like to know more about we are talking about physics propulsion and rocket launches to a degree in almost every episode but to get a deeper understanding of these topics from a universal math and science point of view brilliant is an excellent place to start the approach here is all centred on active learning and problem solving it's about visually seeing concepts interacting with them and then answering questions that get you to think deeper about the topic the courses are laid out interactively as well just like a progressive story split up into handy chunks to explore one step at a time for me i've recently been having a good explore around the newly revamped statistics course here you get hands-on experience designing experiments and framing the correct questions for statistical analysis you'll also build up a statistics toolkit to use in a range of powerful tests if you're naturally curious and you want to build up your knowledge consider checking out brilliant that's not only a great thing for your mind it's also a wonderful way to support me here to give it a try just head to brilliant.org marcus house the first 200 people to follow the link get 20 off the first year of brilliant premium you'll find that link in the description below so yes boeing's starliner mission will again be an uncrewed flight as we witnessed for the very first test that was played with those earlier problems that test of course was just simply called orbital flight test this next mission dubbed orbital flight test 2 will repeat this mission hopefully this time of course without the failure that led to the vessel to abort its objective to dock with the international space station and was essentially returned to earth much earlier than planned the net date for this launch attempt is currently set to around march 25th so in a little under two months we should hopefully be seeing starliner complete this flight test it will also of course be launching on top of united launch alliance's atlas v with the dedicated configuration set for the cst 100 starliner vessel this is the n22 configuration with no fairing it flies with two solid rocket boosters and two centaur upper stage engines so that n22 tells us those critical aspects of the launch configuration very simply so yes there have been quite extensive examinations of the flight software on the spacecraft which has been quite a lengthy process boeing announced earlier this month they've completed the formal re-qualification of the software which includes reviews of the software and the testing procedures that go along with its development i suspect the last 12 months have been very tough for the team at boeing who really needed to own up to those initial mistakes made in the processes the timer issue really was the most critical failure of that mission with it being off by 11 hours making the vehicle believe that it was further along in the mission timeline than it actually was after it was separated from the booster due to that the vehicle used up a bunch of fuel for its engines with unnecessary orbital adjustments there were a lot more problems to address as well of course and the full link to that is in the description if you want to read up on that a little more boeing certainly is not finished yet with the testing much more is to come alongside united launch alliance to ensure that the vessel correctly works with the atlas 5 systems a big thank you today to my amazing patrons and youtube members there is no way that we can continue creating content at this frequency and length without you the support that you're all here providing helps us to increase the time that we can spend and it's all thanks to the growing list of supporters that we see topics and you'd like to be a part of this follow me on twitter and please do get in touch in the tile in the bottom left today we have my video last week talking about all things spacex we have
