and coming back maybe you have to go to a shoulder if it's at a residence may be going around the longer way because the traffic is gonna be backed up on a certain way what is the best to get there then once you do get there what is going to be the access point maybe it's a commercial business and you ask you've got to go to this this big warehouse and you ask should I enter the front or they wait for me around back where is the access point that I need to get once I arrive what equipment might you need now you don't necessarily have to ask the caller this but think to yourself is this an outdoor scene are you going to need certain kind of clothing are you going to need most vehicles are already equipped with some equipment but there is there something specific that you might want to take you might not always carry an entomology kit let's say but you know in this case it is an outdoor scene and the person has been down a while maybe you'll want to grab the entomology kit before you leave not something you always carry in your car but what equipment might you need before you leave if it's nighttime do you have a flashlight do you have a charger what are you going to have to have do you need to obtain rarely used equipment like I said with the entomology kit clothing do you need boots rain gear do you need a coat so let's say that it's been storming a lot well you may be an outdoor scene who are you you're gonna need boots you're gonna need maybe a rain gear because you're gonna be outside a lot you may not carry that in your vehicle all the time but is it accessible what do you need before you leave your office or before you respond to that call now if you're on the medical legal or coroner side you have a little bit more time to think about those things right so if you're a police officer that that's actually on patrol well you really can't go back home and get your rain suit ok I get that so you carry as much stuff in your kit car as you can but a lot of medical legal investigators have shared cars shared equipment and they may be at the office and they're waiting to be a call or something and when they go they may have to grab some extra equipment on their way out because the cars don't carry everything and then will you need extra or special assistance let's say they tell you that this is going to be outdoors and maybe it's a large person as far as weight goes are you going to need help is it is this a high-profile situation where you might want to go ahead and call your supervisor who you normally wouldn't call a supervisor just for a death call but they've already told you hey you know what this is a movie star this is a sports player this is the mayor something like that and you might want to call your supervisor say hey I'm getting ready to go to this scene I want to let you know do you need me do you want to go with me or I just want to make you aware of it okay so what extra assistance do you need for that case okay it seemed response they're already dead so why do you have to drive so fast all right there's a lot of agencies corner agencies they don't allow you to run lights and sirens at all some allow you to run lights and sirens if it's to clear the road let's say it is a highway incident and you have to go along the shoulder well nobody's gonna let you pass if you're just in a regular vehicle right but lights and sirens allows you to go up to shoulder other than that why are you driving so fast why are you responding that way okay you could have a situation where the evidence is that risk of being destroyed so let's say in your situation you also are CSI tech so from the coroner's office or from the police office whatever it is you're a detective but it's somehow in your job you also have to deal with the collecting evidence side of it well you know there's a rainstorm coming in or the bodies been outside long enough or eight or something to where you need to think about getting there quicker than normal because you have some impending weather or evidence can be destroyed okay so so again some authorized codes some don't just understand and know what your agency allows you to do and what your state law allows you to do you don't want to get in trouble with that as well
