hey everyone warren from telex here and today i'm going to show you how to send a fax from your laptop to a physical fax machine using the telnex programmable fax api okay we'll find everything we need in the telnex developer center at developers.telnix.com this is our quick start guide for sending a fax by api this walks you through all of the steps if you prefer to follow along this way then i'll be sure to include this link in the video description for now the first thing you need is a telex mission control portal account so go ahead and create an account with your work email address at this button up here and every new account will get ten dollars of free credit to test out our platform if you already have an account go ahead and sign in here i'm already signed into my account so i'm going to jump over to the telnets portal over here so the first thing we need to do here is create a fax application so let's go to programmable fax and let's hit create your first application right here now we can call this whatever we want i'm just going to call it my fax app now let's talk about web hooks web hooks are what telex uses to communicate that one of your numbers has sent or received a fax now if you're building a production quality app you'll probably want to send these notebooks to somewhere that you can monitor act upon maybe build some automation around but for now because we're just developing and testing we can use a temporary destination for our web books i'm going to be using a service called webhook.site you can see if we type in this url we get a unique url that we can copy to our clipboard and paste it back into the fax application in the portal right here now this is all the configuration we need to do on our fax application so let's just hit save so we've created our app successfully now we need a number from which we're going to send our fax so let's jump over to the numbers tab here at telnyx we're based here in chicago so let's search for phone numbers in chicago hit search and let's grab any one of these and add it to our cart now from the cart view up here we can see that we can actually assign this number to the fax application that we just created right here at checkout and place the order okay so we successfully purchased our number we can see it here in the my numbers view in the portal and we can see that it's associated with my fax app so the last thing we need in order to start sending fax is an outbound voice profile we need our number to be able to make an outbound call to a physical fax machine and send...
