oh she's a warm one today back out in the shop um I think we're gonna fix a generator today yeah they're a little better um let's get right into it yes toasty in here today but such as life it's been so cold for so long in a previous video I brought you the new carb in that and in this video I bring you my generator that has been waiting for repair for multiple years well long time ago in a land far away I bought this thing at a yard sale they're cheap it was defective it was a no-go it's a three kilowatt generator it would not start it would not produce any power it was just generally dead the start problem was just a dead battery and some Yanks on the recoil and it went when I got home no problem but the the inverter board here was dead so I replaced that and then later on the recoil died I never put a battery in it so I was running on the recoil and this cheap junk just snapped it's just tack welded or it was and there was even some corrosion that got in there so the recoil broke free I was able to get one of these this was from Amazon and it looks like the right unit except this one has a drive cog on it which the other one no longer does so I think we're in good shape the problem is is we got to get the recoil rope out of there so we're gonna have to remove it from the new recoil feed it through and then it looks like I was able to get this out through here no problem because I left a path I love myself some rope so I think we'll just wind it through and get it all set and then we get the fun of fishing everything in there and putting everything back together which was a long long time ago that I took this part fortunately I had it apart more than once so should be good in my memory I remember the 12 volt connection was broken off and I always wanted to hook a muffin fan on there just a CPU fan or something because that's I think why these inverter boards fail this is a really sealed case this cover down here doesn't afford a lot of airflow and I think they just burn up but anyway um from my hardware looks like I packaged it in some greasy oil let's do this oh yeah I've already changed my mind we're already up over 30 degrees C in here up nearly 35 without humidex so it feels like about 50 in here I'm gonna put this on hold until later tonight till the Sun Goes Down at least cools off just a little bit okay that's go here hot outside but it's cooled down quite a bit all right first things first flip that over double-check same Sam I think what we'll do let's start though all the way out Jim this so we can get our recoil out hopefully it doesn't go zhuzi take off on us well undo the knot and then we'll thread it through the generator and hopefully everything will be happy heavy and then we're gonna chair just gonna trace this probably just snip that's tight you might as well let's see every coil rope what it's only an inch or two okay follow the other one but the other way so we're gonna go through the side of the generator and just come out right here under the instrument panel nothing crazy should have no surprises I know I got that hold on out of there so in theory we should we'll get the new one in just work okay the only trickier part is this one's gonna be fighting us a little bit after fish it through fish it through here any luck we can get it through that kind of center spring-loaded my thingamabob Eric through the basket but I'm just trouble getting it through there there she goes no problem give it a little not just it's not going anywhere pull it a few times make sure it's just tight we're through now we can release our screwdriver you know out that spring to do its job and suck it right into where we need to be working I have no idea how I'm gonna video this but I'll try it's uh it's pretty hard to see down in there I tell ya I can't see anything so I think we're gonna be working blind for most of us let's see if we can ID the hardware first how many we got one two three four five six so that looks like these guys right here - oh that's a different length six ones a different lengths so he doesn't belong these guys all look like recoil bolts I think he thinks thank God no lock washers I have no idea how I'm gonna get in here I gotta find a kneeling pad I need a I'm looking at buying an ATV hoist motorcycle hoist that that way I can set this stuff on and bring it up to two level cuz I'm gonna do any amount of work in here this can't continue that's working on the floor stuff doesn't no good that's some tools over well it's my ear hatchets as I think I don't know what to think this yet let's get this in here I think I can move you to any better camera angle just yet as good as it gets Russell that up in there and then walk take a look oh and try putting the three bottom first top first not so good bottom first maybe we'll get down past the bottom of that the drive maybe flip up behind the panel here I think she's gonna be a wrestling match no matter what there's no way I can get you in here to see it there we go she's in pulling it up right no we do it no that's a recoil we just gotta bolt it to the block no I didn't pull that murder out of there sooner nice and clean down in there and look too bad not too shabby this might not be so bad after all you can get that get those lined up here's our pet talk get that like camera petcocks in here for our fuel yeah we'll just line up here where our rope comes in just line that up with the hole I assume that should be nearly bang on and we'll start some bolts in there only three bolts actually a hole it that's just you know you dougie oh my god look and I'm like sure it's so many and it's because there's no holes only three bolts hold that on there's money there's about six in the cover itself but they're not used in this model Oh Sophia yes this give them a job give them what fur mac in there two of them needs to be rebuilt but I don't know the Mac deal there anymore so I don't work at a shop where he comes to visit so you can track them down you can rebuild them for me for free all right that's okay tighten the three up a hand that feels good I feels great we're engaged give it a tug you should see gosh that Lots compression all right we're engaged now we just got to put this big rat's nest together hmm and maybe put a fan on this inverter board no there's nothing else we should do something with connections maybe this this working on the floor is for the birds this is no bueno but get this thing up just a little bit my still cutters boots uh I remember this being on point so the inverter is almost in but you gotta get it on its mouths it's rubber isolated mouths there's a starter solenoid over here that gets in the way and it just kind of gotta wrestle everything simultaneously while you're kind of working around this instrument panel and the connectors like to fall off the back of the inverter remember that yeah being a pain in the arse what a little bit because you can't see diddly squat in here until I get this thing wrestled into place I think I just remembered how you gotta get it down in up in and then back and forward remember patience okay we're in inverters in I get this front plate back on board double check our wiring and then we can maybe give it a test before we go on put everything back together it is way too hot in here right now so let me put a bullet in this again it's over 30 degrees in the shop without humidity so that's that's pretty short shifts for a human you're in the ten minutes of effective work no matter what you're doing before you need about a five or ten minute cooldown such as life all for the youtubes I just want this thing to be brand new again I want to walk it and just turn this starter switch and have this thing start that will make me very happy and I think we can get there in this video with the recoil fix I think the door is open to finishing the job properly and check the oil in it and give it a new battery and hopefully not much else is any luck that'll be kind of all we got to do unique I don't know I don't have a lot of luck lately who do you guys think all right maybe we should have a fuel valve that's hopefully he'll screw down inside still I don't remember what it is I think it's props and that should be if Eric was a brain-dead no Eric was she left the fuel in the on position oh no that's off it's weird symbol no that's on they should just mark this stupid thing I never understand whether that's on or off it's got a little water droplet and then a circle around the gas pump on this side I don't know maybe that means something different overseas but it doesn't mean much to me but I'm pretty sure that's the on position I'm pretty sure this doesn't feel like gloves yeah she's tight excellent Wow we'll go halfway between it how do I get out smart throw a little switch converter I'm gonna take a sniff of the fuel maybe during the float Bowl and then we'll pick this back up but I need a rest I'm cooking I'm dripping everywhere alright that more or less just can't walk away we're gonna try and see whether we can get this thing to test and run and then I clearly got the wrong battery tune it up after all let's just see if it runs first I have no idea not seemingly make sure the whole wires plugged in we do they need some help you may not be the best I don't think we're getting a few all itchy I'll give her a little snort right into the wine going into the ER breather don't blow the air cleaner [Music] spark smell still gas let's see if I got spark I can smell still fuel now all right spark no spark brahmana well we've all on the hunt I haven't tested the spark tester before so I don't even know whether this thing is any good they go on the hunt here for a minute okay here's an update it's the next day I took this panel off last night my heat riddled brain kept forgetting to hit record it was a it was just too hot it's already over three degrees in here so I don't know how well today is gonna go away yeah took this paneling off sure enough one of the connectors was unplugged it looks like for the ignition module that got me spark I hooked up my battery charger up here directly to this dead old battery and at least I could crank and that allowed me to double check the spark but no fuel so no fire put some starting fluid into the airbox it offered it ran but it won't continue to run so the fuel systems don't up so now we go tearing the fuel system apart carry on can't stop now so this is our carve down in here airbox I did make a big mistake don't do this I ran it without pulling this airbox apart that's a bad idea because there could be a crater living in there and I might have sucked crap into the intake which would be undesirable but well go ahead take that battery out of the way and then maybe we'll just pop the float Bowl off the carburetor and see what we're up against I imagine we're gonna have to come all the way off but we can just see what we'll see what's going on in there first because the needle may just be stuck on some goo or whatever and that's why we're not getting fuel you might get away with just cleaning that up these curbs are pretty robust that's a that's tickler okay battery was able to just flip out and sit on the floor which is cool I think the fuel shutoff and then we'll just go ahead and see if we can get this football off it's just a 10 millimeter bolt up through the bottom of it should be no big deal don't lay things on fire right with this hot trouble it I can smell the bad fuel now we're really strong once if I pop the air cleaner off too and just took a look down in there and it looks fine no critters in there but we've got fuel lots of it are you turned off seemingly not oh yeah it was finally stopped giggling hello lots of Yogi's lots and lots and lots of Yogi's all right that one freaking dirty float boy vote seems funny hello really all the movement miscut okay turn on some fuel anything comes out that's opposite to the position I have it before nothing coming out no there's fuel in the tank yeah we gots us the problems alright something wrong with this float I've got that fuel turned on now nothing zero zilch nada so might be plugged rate at the petcock this this float seems funny it's seemingly Dec I should drop lower than that I don't want to pull down on it there was fuel in there though so it had worked yeah like that's no bueno she's gonna have to come off definitely something badly wrong going on in there some of this air cleaner out of the way goopy but not bad well there I saw a drop he got a drop that should be on yeah she's trying to dribble but I think that's all we've got is just an issue with our float and our needle I think that needle is actually stuck in the bore so shut that fuel bag off I don't see any easy way to do that without just pulling the carb the right way which is not gonna be easy either kind of tucked in the corner here it's not thick easiest thing to work around yeah I've seen a hell a lot worse let's pull it off not got away your cleaner Oh spacer longer spacer just fell out of the back of the air cleaner it's got these brass inserts it's just gonna be careful of those put that bring it back where it came from or we lose them ask it spacer herb loose can we get it all the way up yes we can all right ease away there is that full penis slightly stuck see if we can get that off of there don't have my ultrasonic cleaner setup out here yet I ordered a second one for out here for these particular jobs and doesn't arrived yet all right let's even get that pin out pins up for the flow up we'll just see if we can take that flew out of there I think it's needle yeah I was is the needle is absolutely wedged so it looks fine they can tell you did not want to come out of that bore so that's what our problem is one of them throw a position sensor wires all right now you can sorta finesse this upside now it's it's clean in here it's really really clean so the only problem we have is that the quote was just jammed up and that's easy enough to fix I don't think there's a little bit of gunk down in the main that's not a good sign either mmm oh yeah well we'll see if we can get that main out of there and and I'm just gonna take a q-tip on a drill down to the seat because this like I told you in the previous video this style of needle this one is this this style that has the the rubber on the tip anyway and so that means the needle the seat is just brass so we can take a q-tip to it we're not gonna burn out any worry or anything I'm gonna pause you and we'll get back cuz I gotta stretch my legs this this coach and this this this arcs okay I'm just gonna use a little bit of brake clean down in there [Music] Oh shitty ketchup didn't work paper handles just use the handle then alright hmm that's gonna be a problem don't want to take the needle off the off the float this has got a spring out I'm gonna have to eventually that looks like it's gonna be kind of a pain in the ass to get back on there but let's see that's okay there's a neat setup I've never seen that before and of course the spring already tries to go flying all right we'll just leave him out let's see how tight it is our needle very tight we no no boy no that's locked up wishin I had the ultrasonic cleaner set up right here it might go steal the one from inside I really don't want it though yes that is a problem I'll just use this these are a paper paper shaft on it we'll just use that to buff it a little bit maybe this time it'll work nothing coming off that looks spotless I wonder if the corrosion is on her needle there is definitely corrosion on there I'll maybe see if I can clean it up with a wire brush soft brush here oh yeah I was able to get the needle cleaned up but the seats still no good I'm just gonna try it it needs to be soaked there is it's just a layer of varnish on it really really thin but say I really don't want to soak it I just put some intake cleaner on that if only not that checked out see rough again it's done that mean looks like hell to me thinks we're gonna be doing this twice cuz I'm gonna try and do it the lazy way oh there we go we're good that's more that's the way she should work that feels wondrous okay well that worked surprisingly see if we can get this man out of there it looks like it shits right out baby done this I lost track of what screwdrivers I used to use for this I think this is the one I used to use for all the common jets yep maybe felt like it came then again brass stripping can also feel like it's coming out coming you just do an awful lot of these rebuilds back in the day all the emulsion tube came as well yes these are the two the two important spots that we care about it's our main jet me and metering and the emulsion tube which actually looks wonderful it's actually nice and clean but I'll take a look at these tiny holes in the light a little bit better then I'm gonna just give a little pokey doke here to the main maybe soak it for a few minutes we'll put it back in should be nothing to it cool okay anything spiffed up a little bit the jet could definitely do with being soaked but I think we'll be all right I mean a lot this'll good be able to tell if everything is together right cuz it'll it'll seat with purchase yeah nice and solid so we're good alright then I got a wrestle that that needle back on the float make sure our floats not a sinker I don't hear any fuel in there so I think we're okay but gotta get that needle back on there and I don't think I'm gonna be able to video that easy I'm gonna be able to do it with my gloves on effectively don't think it's easier than what I thought okay just made it out to be worse than what it is cuz I just slid it right in there yeah that's no problem yeah that's okay okay that wasn't so bad yeah everything should be able the wiggle wiggle turn it upside down my float should fall a helical ear down than what it did it was in the full closed position before I might have to just clean this pin up a bit just gonna line your float let's the boss and there you go now yeah that looks better much more gooder now if I turn fuel on fuel should come out oh and it does at high rates of speed looking like pee all right we golden that should work in theory as long as there's not other passages clogged which there could be and like I said earlier we'll just end up doing this twice but this this is no good this is just needs to clean air but I'm gonna have to clean there's gonna have to do the old manual way and just do it by hand so I'll be back it's actually pleasantly surprised I just just barely touched it with the wire brush and that stuff's coming right off it's actually a bill a varnish and not rust at all that's good news that makes me happy yeah you should this should be no problem okay ideally you don't want to use mechanical force to clean these it would have been better to soak it and use it maybe the ultrasonic because then you don't remove any any coatings but we're spiffy I'll do for today that's uh I'm just gonna pop this back on and let's see if it's a little beat alive the gasket looks not horrible bad for the backside so I think we can reuse that you gotta be a little gentle with the float exposed but I guess I could have put football on something like that direction there it doesn't matter for the purposes of the float maybe it no it doesn't nope sometimes there's a cutout for the float and it's really critical that you have things in the right position but in this case it's not not the case so I'm sure they're full with our washer on it up through the bottom well tighten that after once we get the curb cinch down and everything sorta back where it needs to be we should be in good shape to go okay pause here because I gotta go wipe the sweat off my brow it's 31 degrees in here plus-x about 85 plus percent humidity today is stinky already the fuel coming out of that bowl now is is actually not bad smelling so I think I'm gonna try and run the fuel out that's in it because I'm really out of I'm out of jerrycans to put bad gas in but I've just got the charger on and then we're gonna use that to try and turn this over so we'll give it a little choke equal throw and off we'll see if it starts that's not a good sign had better yesterday [Music] I think that fuels not where the who it's acting just a little bit under enthused I think I think that fuels just not quite terribly volatile but I still I think we can run it out without any risk cuz it's clean so I think we'll do that and then go from there all righty I ran inside for I don't know 45 minutes or so a little bit of hunting on the idle little surging I think that's that fuel I don't think we have any car problems left but I guess we'll find out in the meantime I did get the wrong battery so I'm gonna have to go get another one of those I might wait till tomorrow but well that's out well change the oil the oil plug the drain plug is just down there and there's a little plug in the bottom of the pan to open up to let the oil fall through out hopefully not all over the belly and we'll put everything back together boss the pizza pan Andy it's like a flying bird Rain Man little fit underneath it Tim oh he should start puking insanely hot oil should drain very very well yes this is the belly pan that's what I expected oh what a dumb system it just kind of pours in there and there's a drain line drain hole right below it but of course the force of it misses the drain hole entirely and this is all over the place get designing that smells like rancid fuel so change of plans I'm going to drain the fuel out of that this in there cuz that's enough of that and we'll find a way to get that out hey drain plugs back in wells all over the belly exactly how the manufacturer intended some did gain at the bottom smell it actually that's more than I thought get some oil but here we go it's a kid telling the black glove but it wasn't the most black dye just smells bad from the bad fuel so not bad will mop up the belly and then I've got fuel draining now I'm doing mine in there Jerry can and we're just about done it's almost done so we should be able to fill it fill it with oil what I'll do is I'll put a bucket under here and we'll drain the last of the fuel from the tank out from the float Bowl or at least some of it and then I'll put in some fresh ethanol free yeah I should be good should be good for a bit well okey-dokey I think we're winning feels drained I have fresh high-test new ethanol fuel fYI for my fellow Canucks shale VTEC high octane is no ethanol I just don't know it recently actually I'm going to use this nifty little pump to transfer a little bit of fuel in she's pretty much dead that's empty you just hit go this thing has an automatic shut off these things work great they're about 60 bucks Canadian and they usually do the job except it kicked off that time yeah I might be kicking off because of the strainer yeah kicking off yeah I think it was kicking off because of the strainer no we'll just put in oh I don't know quarter of a tank or so and that should be good enough these are great for if you've got a tank that your wife has to use or whatever because if I just push that down in there we'll stop the game thank you yep it stops when it's full so you can't overflow it's pretty cool you don't have to lift a big jerrycan up mist around that is actually a rate about quarter of a tank there so we're gonna stop and then the nozzle just stores right back inside the pump for safekeeping pretty cool I like it I like it a lot you've been using it a few times now I'm working wonderful so we've got oil in it we've got fresh fuel in it I'm just gonna drain the fuel a little bit out through the float Bowl to flush in some of the new stuff and some of the old stuff so I never run on that old crap anymore and we're gonna try it okay well I give this little bowl I got the charger plugged in I think we're ready to run on the new fuel let's see what happens probably won't need choke [Applause] okay remember when I said we'd have to take it apart again well this is how it should run it is absolutely wonderful just particularly happy as can be but this is how it actually runs we have an issue in our Idol in our low speed circuit we have a clog still where we're not getting enough fuel so that's easy to diagnose because you just give it a little bit of choke give it a little bit more fuel that'll force it to draw from the main discharge jet and if it smooths out like it does right there you know you have a clog and your low speed and that's what's making the the idle motor hunt no big deal you can just take it out of idle control and just let it run it runs fairly kind of in between the high and the low speed here but that's not what we want we want this thing to run like something in the neighborhood of here yeah I'm not there well T rich anyway you get the idea we're just a little lean so what I'm gonna do is wait until I get the new ultrasonic cleaner and we'll take that carb off and we'll fix that low speed circuit but for now the generator is usable because I can just turn it off and just run it on the high speed and no problems it's it's totally good to go so it sucks but I'm not doing it today hope you enjoyed this video click the thumbs up if you did easy to fix but like I said earlier we're gonna get bit if we think this is is the low speed metering jet but I'm not positive on that and it was indeed clogged whatever it is so I took a bristle from somewhere around here that wire brush and just poked it through a few times because it's a super fine hole which which seems about right for an idle circuit and we're gonna put it back in and give it a go success finally we have this thing purring no joke on we can go ahead and take the Eco throttle up much better Eco throttle um our smart throttle as this thing is called foot already do have a tiny bit of a load on it little battery charger come do it that fixed it so we're good to go you don't need to take that carburetor apart anymore she is happy heavy for reference again yes the spear just plastic comes out and then the jet can pop up from below and she's smooth as a baby's butt now if I give it any choke it's gonna get grumpy yeah they're very good at it no need for that smooth as a baby's butt nice and quiet like it I say we win huh I just need to change that battery out give her a little clean up and she's like new again finally I like that I like that a lot oh yes the next day I do a woman get a different battery this one hopefully should fit this thing no man these things are insane in Canada as the the cheapest I could find eighty-three box come on Soviet stop by a garage sale got myself a Keurig none of these meet okay ten bucks why not okay we got some lacquer thinner it's too uh it's some of the over spray the paint that off of both Agenor a turn off my quad from painting the shop so let's go ahead and get this generator together okay these batteries come not filled and not charged so that's the nature of pretty much any battery now so they'll come with acid already set for you and these nifty little instant fill up kind of deal owner's manual it's probably gonna just say add the electrolytes I'm and make sure it's Bob Loblaw temperature you're not peeling pierce pull the ceiling plugs oh it does - all right I was getting confused you pull these and then there's still oil on them I was like how can I turn this upside down on the battery so you just go it so in theory push it down and then it should start gurgle gurgle gurgling and slowly fill up that battery and then put caps on and that'll be that it looks like you use the same ceiling plug yeah that's clever shaving some money he's the same ceiling plug from that comes with the hardware this is the biggest battery that will fit in that generator it's a it's a little on the large size but it should do the trick whether it has an amperage rating on them probably not these power support batteries don't but I wanted to get it big so that way if I want to use it on any heavier equipment later or whatever I can this into don't seem to be doing too much number three smart and WAP it will give that some time I can smell it smells like sulfuric acid so we'll let that go wear some safety glasses when you're doing this my safety shades on and had removed bottles now we should be able to put our vent caps in goes down hopefully no splash up with these there wasn't good my battery's ready to charge so I should be all set grant Spanky knew never had new batteries much and tasty tidbit when you have a battery that's screwed that you have a cell low or whatever just not working right you can pop that top back out and take a look and make sure all the cells are top grade up and if they're not just top them up with distilled water and you can sometimes bring an old battery back to life run it through like the B sulfated cycle or just few charge cycles really slow trickle charge it and she'll come right up alright this one's taking a charge good we'll leave it on the 2 amp trickle and we'll just let it go for the day and just let it come up nice and slow and I'll give her lots of light you don't want a fast charge a brand new battery if you can help it undesirable so I'll let that go good it's been a couple hours we're charged I think we can find the install it and maybe wrap this project up when I went out um I actually stopped by on my local restore I forgot I was gonna pick up some kitty litter to clean up some of the oil I keep spilling it koalas are eight bucks at my local restore that's actually a hell of a deal and then that st. Vincent roasting pan make a wonderful drain pan or a place to use when I'm working on something do them 5x perfect no you rather than you watch anymore and me wrestling with this I just went ahead and set that battery in there fits pretty good no problem take the old one back for a car I'm just gonna finish giving this away we'll give it a go this is finally where we sit I gave it a little bit of a wipe down we have a recoil that works both ends are assembled no exhaust leaks or anything in here battery I might just hit that top of that valve cover a little bit of paint looks like there was probably a mouse pissed on or there's something it's usually how you get that kind of corrosion maybe I'll just put a little drop of oil on it but things are cleaner I did hose it all out last night to get all that engine oil out of there but in theory she should run let's see how we get on fuel on Joker oh yes victory finally that generator is back in service super tickled with that that's a look how quiet these things are with the sight shielding and everything on it it hardly makes a sound [Music] perfect oils changed batteries in this thing is ready for winter whenever I'm gonna need it always needs a little bit of children start out it's just the way it is other than that nice love it guys I hope you enjoyed that thumbs up this video a no man that was a lot more work than just a recoil than what I anticipated so so be it if that's how life goes sometimes cheers guys [Music]
