Force us state field
The positive experience I've gained in SERE compared to what I've seen for other career fields is the training that we get. Very select few career fields get to go to jump school, get to experience every single biome there is. We get to go out onto an open ocean and see what it's like to survive on a life raft, but we also get to speak to every single airman, officer or anyone has to come through SERE and their experiences. This gives me a fantastic opportunity to learn a lot about other people. They don't realize how much they're going to be teaching. They think it's more combat oriented. They come in, they think they may be that door kicker and they're gonna learn a lot of survival skills and resistance training. Yeah, they might go through training and experience what they're teaching, but then once they actually graduate and get the beret, they're gonna be teaching it. I think there might be a little bit of misinformation or perception that we're door kickers or that were an operational unit or a combat career field. We're an operational support function. We're not that frontline troop. If you believe you have some difficulty with public speaking, you need to consciously work on that weakness. If you know it's a weakness, then you have to grow that into your strength. I had a bit of stage fright. When it came to teaching people, even to this day, I will get nervous. I could barely stand up in front of a class and say anything, but they teach you very slowly and you work up all the way until you realize that you're teaching an entire group of people that most Airmen are afraid to talk to. Being career-minded, having a plan, continuing your education, and then remember why you joined. Managing your new career and your work life with your other life, being able to find that balance, find time for yourself but still improve and be better you for your work as well.
