(upbeat music) - Is a copy of a birth certificate and divorce papers be accepted by USCIS or do I need original copies? Great question, I'm glad you asked it. We've run into this a lot. You never send original documents to the USCIS, except in the rare care, which we've never seen happen, where they ask for it. But they never do, that we've ever seen. So always send a photocopy. That's all the CIS wants, they're gonna scan it into their file anyway, and you're never gonna get that original back if you send it in, and you will likely need those originals later. So yeah absolutely, no matter what it is, proof of citizenship, birth certificate, divorce certificate, criminal record, any of that kind of stuff. There are no exceptions. Everything - your passport, people send us their passport, and we had to make a copy and send it back. You never send an original anything to the CIS. Everything is photocopy. The only thing you might get confused on is a photo, when you send them a passport photo, yes that's an actual photo - don't take the photo and make a copy of the photo. You do want to send them the actual photo on photo paper. So you are sending them a real picture, but as far as all those documents, photocopies only. Now, let me say, so I don't cause any confusion, they do want your real signature. When you're signing the government forms, obviously you're not signing your birth certificate or whatever, but when it comes to the government forms, those need to be original signatures on those. So you can't photocopy that and send it in, but for all your supporting evidence, again - birth certificate, passport, divorce certificates, criminal history, anything like that, your bank statements if you're proving your finances - all of that stuff is photocopies. - Okay, just a follow-up on that, I've actually seen a couple cases where the consular officer at the US Embassy has requested original documents, but they did return those documents back.
